Enough is Enough - Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Quite a ways away he stopped at one of the lakes. "The ookami and his two underlings are there. Why not see if you can spend a couple days with them? I'll wait here for you until you make a decision." Sesshomaru said.

Ginta, Hakkaku and Kouga were discussing hunting when the Western Lords' aura hit them. Standing quickly they weren't sure what to do until Kagome started walking their direction.

"Sis!" The two younger ones yelled and rushed forward. Kouga hung back looking first at Sesshomaru then her, confused. But he smiled as she walked towards him. "Hey Kagome! Where's Mutt Face?" he asked.

"At Edo still I think. I haven't seen him since I came back from a trip home." she said, smiling at him.

"Oh?" he asked, a bit startled. This was odd with a capital odd. She had never sought him out before; he had always hunted her up when he wanted to see her. Hell, he wasn't going to complain! The most beautiful woman in the world was here to visit him. Glancing back over at the trees, he saw a flash of silver and white, telling him Sesshomaru was still there. Lowering his voice, he asked, "What's up with Mutt Faces brother? Why is he here?"

Smiling, she giggled a bit, "He brought me."

Arching an eyebrow, he said, "Oh." Yeah, real articulate he knew that and wanted to slap himself for it. But he was still thrown off by her even being here. "So, what's up Kagome? I'm glad you came to see me!"

Glancing back at Sesshomaru, almost as thought she was looking for courage, she then looked at Kouga and smiled, "So, what are you guys up to?"

"Oh, just scouting around for the spider and a few other things."

"Will you be going near Edo in the next couple days?"

Stomping flat the hope that suddenly bloomed in his chest he tried to sound calm, "Not sure but we can. Why?"

Turning a bit red she lowered her eyes and said softly, "Well, I thought I might like to spend some time with you guys if you don't mind and if you can take me to Edo."

"Hell yeah, we can do that! No problem Kagome!" He said grinning. Both his sidekicks stood there still, mouths agape, eyes bugging out, not believing what they just heard.

Smiling up at him, still a bit pink she said, "Great! Let me go tell Lord Sesshomaru I'm staying, OK?"

"Sure." was all the ookami could get out, still in a state of shock.

Dashing over to Sesshomaru, she looked at him, "Umm… I'm going to stay with them. They'll take me to Edo in a couple days." she said, breathlessly.

Nodding at her, he looked over at the ookami. "I don't think you'll regret it, miko."

Looking down at her blushing face he wanted to smirk but didn't. "Do you have provisions for your companions you won't need?" he asked.

"Yeah." she said, puzzled.

"Give them to me and I'll make sure they get them as well as making sure that your hanyou leaves you alone."

Confused, she pulled out all the extras from her pack and wrote a note for Sango saying she would be in Edo in a couple days but not where she was. Then she handed them to the Western Lord. "Thank you Lord Sesshomaru." She said softly.

Nodding, he grunted, "You're welcome miko." Then he turned to leave.

Before he got far she asked, "Why?" Meaning, "why was he doing this."

Stopping, he looked at her over his shoulder and smirked but said nothing before disappearing into the trees.

She watched him leave then grabbed her pack and headed back to Kouga. By that time the wolves had joined them and they had all found a spot in the shade.

Dropping her back, she plopped down next to Kouga but didn't know what to say.

Waiting until the Western Lord's aura was gone he looked at her and smiled, reaching down to take her hand gently. "How is the most beautiful woman in the world doing?"

Giggling, she blushed, "Thanks Kouga. I'm good." She then told him a bit about the time she spent at home.

Soon, without even realizing it, they had slipped deep into a conversation about all kinds of things and the hours began to slip by. By mid-afternoon they moved on to where they were going to make camp for the night. Kouga had carried her on his back like Inuyasha usually did but talked to her the whole way. She found out the ookami prince really did have a great sense of humor and had her laughing so hard she was in tears.

Their camp for the night was a couple caves by a small lake. While the rest of the pack was out hunting for their supper, Kagome was able to take a swim in the lake with a very protective Kouga sat on the edge, keeping watch over her.

After a while, she lay on the banks next to him, just basking happily in the sun with her head resting on his thigh. It wasn't until this point that she realized that she had gone a full day without being yelled at or called some name. Nor had she been treated badly, sneered at, mocked, made fun of, told she was useless or worthless or any of the 1000 other things that made up her normal day. Kouga had treated her the same as he always did and talked to her like she was his equal, just like normal. Much to her surprise she found out she was comfortable with him without Inuyasha around. And she felt safe. Safe enough, as a matter of fact, that while sunning herself she dozed off with her head resting on his thigh while he ran his fingers through her hair.

Smiling down at the sleeping woman, he relaxed and grinned bigger. He still couldn't believe she was here! Nor did he know why she had sought him out but he really didn't give a damn, just show she was here. The whole thing, he realized, was much easier without Inutrasha around. He was much more relaxed and comfortable and so was she. It was easy to talk to her and he was sure that today was the first time he had really heard her laugh and giggle. Of course having her this close was driving him nuts but it was worth it. Maybe tonight he would talk to her about the more serious stuff and find out what in the blue fuck Lord Sesshomaru had to do with all of it.
