"I don't think it's hit the news, yet, but *we* have a serious problem." Karen flinched at the bitterness in Kioko's words, then sighed. "We haven't done anything that serious, have we?" "The shrine worked." "Huh?!" "In case you've forgotten, a properly evil mentor only tells her minions what they need to know. I got bit pretty bad by that, and since all of you built the shrine and decided to be known by that over-the-top name, you get to help me figure out what we do next." "Oh. Real bad, huh?" "Well, Karen, no. Carl and I came up with that shrine as a way for him to get kids to open up about being used by pedos. The way he figured it, they'd feel like God had abandoned them, and since I work for Satan, I'm tainted enough those kids would probably feel pretty comfortable about asking me, uncle Bruce, or Satan, to intercede and help them get revenge, or punish their abusers." Karen sighed. "You said it worked? That's great, but what's the problem?" "Uncle Bruce is probably talking to the media about it, right now. He checked in this morning, got all the 'messages' from the kids who prayed at my shrine, and called the police, before he called the kids to let them know those pedos are going to be collected, and charged, so they get punished here, instead of the usual slide the clergy gets." "Awesome!" "Yeah. Real awesome, because *I* get to show up in front of the media as Pixie, and then make the right noises about how happy I am, and all that. Since this will be my first official appearance as 'The One True Bitch From Hades', and I will be appropriately thankful that my 'Abject Minions' built a shrine to my nastiness, it is appropriate that all of you will be present to receive your rewards for such devotion, and all that other yadda-yadda. We have less than three hours, to design our wardrobe, and come up with a ceremony suitable for the occasion. Is the picture clear enough?" "Too clear. We should have seen it coming, even without the kids praying for your intercession, right?" Kioko sighed. "Yes. I've already used the creativity I collected on the way here, to increase the potential so you guys have a chance of coming up with something, in a real big hurry. Once we get started, I'll collect your creativity and feed it back to you, just like I did when you designed the shrine. We'll worry about branch shrines, later." Karen nodded. "Another good point that we should have seen coming. We're new to this stuff, but still..." She sighed and faced her friends. "Ok, Minions. We got bit, and this gig got a little more serious than we wanted it to be. We'll figure out a way to praise Pixie for her evil deception, later. Pixie first, then we'll worry about clothing and the ceremonial stuff. Kio? You'd better become Pixie." Thirty minutes later, Pixie was festooned with battery powered Christmas tree lights and trying to figure out some way to make people take her seriously when she explained their symbolism. It took her only a couple of minutes to realize she was wasting her time, by trying to figure out that symbolism on her own, so she sneezed to get everyone's attention. "You guys worry about the costumes and ceremonial stuff. I gotta go get some expert help. I'll grab what they put out and feed it to you. Don't panic if your creativity gets... excessive." "Excessive?" "Yeah. The experts I'll be consulting with are my dad and mothers." She vanished, and everyone looked at each other, then focused on Karen, who sighed. "We've been warned. Things are going to get *insane*. Lets relax and go with the flow." About a minute later, all of their eyes widened, then they all laughed... Evilly. Karen looked around. "Right. Lets see which ideas can be made to work, the fastest." * * * Pixie appeared on the back lawn, put up with the giggles and laughter, then stalked over and settled on her haunches before she dedicated one head for each of her parents, so she could glare at them impartially. "Yes, I know I look silly. You three have about two hours to help me find a way to make the lights symbolic, so when I am escorted by my minions, they can hold back their giggles and laughter, while I haughtily explain why I should be viewed with awe, for my... whatever we come up with." She smiled grimly. "Do your creative best, because I plan on sucking all of it up and using it to enhance the creative field that now surrounds my minions, so *they* have a reasonable hope of designing suitably impressive ceremonial clothing for themselves." Glenn laughed. "White for purity, of course. What sort of purity, we'll figure out later." "Myrto? Red or yellow, to symbolize Hellfire?" "Yellow for Hellfire. Red should be blood. Ketaki?" "Blue for something cold. The ice water her targets never get, or perhaps the chill she sends through their hearts when she focuses her gaze on them." The eyes on Pixie's medallion opened. "May I play this game, too, Mistress?" Pixie sneezed. "Maybe. No fire, Heinrich." "A pity, but symbolism can be fun. Put the battery pack for the yellow lights behind me, then run the wire through my mouth, to make it clear that I am the one who commands the Hellfire for you. If you turn the lights on, I will be able to interfere with the electricity in the wire, so I may turn the lights on, or off, at your command." "Heinrich?" "Ya, Mistress?" "If all the light strings went through your mouth, would you be able to control them individually?" "Four, I could do, if you also put the wires through my eyes and nose." "We have five colors to work with. We'll have to figure out which one should be on all the time, or go with four." "I have heard of four, Mistress, What color remains?" "Green, Heinrich." "Ah! It is simple, My Mistress! Leave the green on, and let it symbolize how you always strive to encourage people to grow in wisdom!" "Thank you, Heinrich. You are my first and truest Minion." "Thank you, Mistress. Do you need me, or may I go back to sleep and dream of my future reward, for my service?" "Go back to sleep and dream your dreams of your pretty fire, Heinrich." The skull's eyes closed, and Ketaki laughed. "We know our symbolism, and you have a way to turn the lights on or off at the appropriate points in your speech, that hasn't been written yet. What is left, is to make what you wear, fashionable, instead of... having it all look like you just came in from being in a hurricane!" ==== Pixie 002 --- After the lights were rearranged to Ketaki's and Myrtoessa's satisfaction, Pixie became Kioko, hugged each of her mothers, pecked her father on one cheek, then vanished. When she reappeared, she took the time to solemnly study her minions, before she giggled. "I see my minions have exceeded my expectations." Karen nodded. "The bathrobes fulfill the function of being ceremonial robes, and they signify our unity of purpose. We have two more waiting for you. We will use one for Pixie, to hide you from view, until you are ready to let us reveal the malevolent gaze of the two of your heads that judge, or something like that, if you come up with some patter that sounds better." "So you want me to lie my heads on my back, or something like that? The Medusa shtick. I like it. The construction paper hearts, with flames on them?" "So people may see that we have survived the trial by fire, and now serve Satan." Kioko studied her friends. "A... Lie? None of you have sworn yourselves." Karen sighed. "Yes, a lie, to hide the truth that in our hearts and minds, we have sworn to serve you, not out of fear, but friendship." Kioko finally nodded. "Thank you, Karen. We'll discuss it more, later. The skull masks?" "Simple. A way of saying you always see what is beneath the surface, and living with that is a requirement for those who consort with you." Kioko thought about it, then sighed and became Pixie. "So, the theme is 'Lies are used to hide the truth'. It needs some work, but it's enough to get us through today. Garb me, then I will change back, we will link hands, and go see what happens. Oh. Karen. Don't forget your laser pointer, and figure out a way to carry it up your sleeve." "What will I need it for?" "Some bad theater. Karen, you will be my 'Chosen Hands in The World of Mortals', and use the pointer to select who may speak to me. Keep it ordinary. 'I choose you to speak', that sort of stuff, make it sound like they are too beneath our regard, for you to waste time on ceremony. The rest of you will remain silent, to suit the seriousness of the situation." "You want me to be... Haughty and disdainful, while I'm wearing my bathrobe?!" Pixie laughed. "Haven't you stood in front of your mirror and practiced being a Queen, while pretending it's a fancy gown?" "You knew?!" "Safe bet. Do you know any girls who *haven't* done it?" "Ummm... No." Karen gestured. "Let's figure out the best way for Pixie to place her heads, so she doesn't look like a side-humped camel, after we get her robe on." Eventually they settled on having her put one head on her shoulders, while the other one crossed under her neck and held the edge of the robe so it stayed tight, while they pinned the other side in place The result was a hunch backed dog with broad shoulders and a deep chest, and it was pronounced adequate, as a lie. Pixie became Kioko, she put her robe on, decided she didn't want to wear a skull mask, and then her friends surrounded her and linked hands before Kioko touched the hand Karen offered her. "Well, it will either work, or be a spectacular failure. I suppose the best part will be that no matter what we say, folks are going to speculate about what we *didn't* say, and do the rest of our work for us. You guys ready to go make some news, instead of watching it being made?" They all nodded, so Kioko sighed. "Thanks, and... If it means anything to any of you, I've already put in a request that all of you be fast tracked, no matter who you eventually decide to work for." Karen smiled. "Thanks, Kio. We're wasting time." "Settling my nerves. Ok. Let's go make history." They vanished. * * * She landed them behind Cerberus, then waited. He and her brother turned to see what the media had focused on, then he noded slightly. "We haven't been waiting that long. Glad you were able to get here so quickly." "Thank you, Master Cerberus. My Minions did well, and I am pleased with their work." Carl walked over and held out his hand. "Looking good, Sis. These folks got some questions I can't answer. Like Uncle Bruce said, it's good to see you and your minions." She shook his hand, then let go and smiled before she became Pixie. "Minion Karen. These people are not familiar with my ways, so please be patient with them." "Yes, Mistress. Do you wish them to see you in all your glory?" "Yes." Karen gestured. "Remove the robe that conceals the truth of our Mistress' beauty." The robe was removed, and there were stunned gasps, assorted snorts and giggles, and finally, a nervous silence after Pixie brought her heads up and used all three of them to study the reporters. Karen spoke haughtily. "Behold our Mistress, The One True Bitch From Hades! Feel honored, that she has chosen to let you see her magnificent glory in this world, instead of making you wait, until you face her to be judged, in Hers!" Pixie lifted her center head higher, and spoke softly. "Minion Heinrich. Explain the symbolism, so these people may begin to understand what some of them will someday face, when they come before us, to be judged." "Ya, Mistress, it will be a pleasure." He paused, then went on. "We are absurd looking, yes? That is a good thing, and a lie, of course. The purpose of a lie, or lies, is to hide the truth. But, they only hide it. The truth is still there, to be found, and understood. "Remember that. "The ever-burning green lights Pixie wears, symbolize her eternal desire that the people she is given to judge, grow in their wisdom, until they no longer need to face her, and they may continue to seek their true place in their new life." He paused, and a white 'S' appeared on each of her foreheads. "The S on each of Pixie's foreheads symbolizes her oath to Satan, and that though her mind is in three parts, they are unified when it comes to her service to He Who Judges First. The white stands for the purity of thinking she expects in herself, her minions, and those she judges. It also represents His Love, for all of us." The red lights came on, and Heinrich put some sadness in his voice. "The red on her legs is the blood of the innocent and guilty, that she must walk through as she performs her freely chosen tasks, in this universe, and the next." Two lines of blue lights came on, and they made lines along her two outside necks, then went down her outside noses. "The blue... Ahhh, the pretty blue that matches the icy disdain the unrepentant see in her eyes, when she lets them see the contempt they have earned." Heinrich grinned, and the yellow lights came on, then started flickering as he varied the voltage to them. "Yellow. The oh so pretty yellow of the Hellfire I wield at my Mistress' command, when she wishes to chastise the one she judges unfit to be allowed to continue their journey." Pixie spoke gently. "Enough, Minion Heinrich. You have done well. When next we work, I will find you a Lost Soul, that you may torment for me." "Ya! Thank you, Mistress. Perhaps..." "Speak your mind, Minion." "Plagiarists are so boring, Mistress. They have no true creativity. Members of the clergy can be fun, but after so many of them, I find them boring, because they are so predictable." "You do not let that boredom affect your job performance, Heinrich. I have not needed to let you feel my touch for a long time. You are allowed to dream. If I find it a worthy one, I will make an effort to turn it into reality for you." "I have never dealt with a modern reporter, My Mistress. Perhaps?..." "Perhaps, Heinrich. When next we work, I will look into the matter." "Thank you, Mistress!" "It will be an earned reward. Now, be silent." Pixie lowered her head. "Minion Heinrich did well. My other Minions wear robes, to signify their unity of purpose. The hearts with the flames in them, remind them that I always know what is in their hearts, and that if I do not like what I see, I may cleanse them, with the Hellfire that is mine to command, and they will not protest my action. "The masks they wear, are their way of telling the world that in my eyes, all of them are equal, and that I see the truth that is beneath the lie of their mortal flesh." Pixie paused, dipped her heads slightly, then raised them so she could watch the reporters. "Minion Karen. As my Chosen Hands, select the first person with whom I will converse." Karen brought her hands out of the sleeves of her robe and revealed the laser pointer she held. "I will test you, until I find the one I seek. The test is painless on the physical plane." She turned the pointer on, then played it over the gathered people, until she finally let it linger between a woman's breasts. "I find you suitable. You may converse with My Mistress, until she is done with you." "May I know what made me suitable?" "You did not flinch when the light touched you, and your eyes are unable to hide that you understand the message My Mistress has chosen to deliver, to those who are willing to hear the meaning she gives it, instead of applying their own meaning to it. For that, and other reasons, you and your companions may address her in whatever way you wish." The woman studied Karen, then nodded before she focused on Pixie. "Pixie. Isn't it presumptuous of you, to have Minions?" Pixie pointed with her nose. "You have companions who do your bidding while you focus on doing your job. You give them many titles, but ultimately, they have all agreed to place your needs above theirs. We are more honest about that fact, because we know that lies are too important to waste on trivial matters." * * * The interview lasted for several hours, and when it was over, everyone was satisfied with how it had turned out, even unto The One True Bitch From Hades being pleased enough to allow as Her Minions had exceeded Her expectations many times over, and She would reward them suitably, with ice cream and other treats. ==== Pixie 003 --- Karen tossed her bathrobe on the grass, sat on it, then buried her head in her hands while she laughed hysterically. She finally recovered and looked up to watch Kioko. "Did we *really* do that?!" Kioko took her bathrobe off, then switched to being Pixie. "We did. Somebody get these stupid looking lights off me." They removed the lights, Pixie stood and shook herself violently, then she sat and sneezed her disgust. "And we did it live. Extra points or whatever, for all of you, since you managed to stay sober and make eating ice cream look like it was some sort of special ritual." David laughed. "Thanks, Pixie. You did pretty good, yourself." "Thanks. That reminds me. Heinrich!" "Ya, Mistress Pixie?" "Well done, and all that stuff. It might take me awhile, but I'll find you a modern reporter to play with." "Thank you, Mistress. Perhaps your Minions can devise a way to put laser pointers behind my eyes? I noticed that many of the ones we dealt with, found the touch of Karen's, very frightening." Pixie grinned. "I think they want to be noticed, not singled out. Karen? See what you guys can come up with. No hurry. I need a long break, after today." "No problem. Maybe we can design some sort of mounting system that looks like it belongs there. Heinrich? If the laser lights come from the side, could you make them change direction as they pass through your eyes?" "Ahh! Karen, you know me well, already! True roving eyes! I will find a way! Thank you!" "You're welcome, Heinrich. I think your explanation of the symbolism was what made it possible for us to act serious. I know when I heard it, I was able to *believe*, because suddenly, it was all truth." "Ya! Ya! All *was* truth, because when there is nothing, whatever is there first, becomes truth even if it is a lie." "I need to think about that." Pixie bobbed her head. "Yeah. I bet we all got lots of things to think about, like how to balance being ourselves, with our fame. Don't be surprised if folks start treating you like regular stars, or... like they do Mom and Dad." David shuddered. "You mean that intercession stuff, and autographs or... No privacy?" "I don't know how crazy it will get, Dave." "Yeah. We're the first. Umm... You gonna have some sort of policy we have to follow when we're being Minions?" "No. You guys can come up with your own, or you can wing it and each do whatever you want to do. I bet kids and even adults are going to want to get in on this, so about the only thing I can think of, is that whatever any of us do, we're going to have to find ways to channel all that... 'Evil Energy', which means we gotta figure out ways for evil folks to do good, and make it sound like it has to be that way." He sighed. "Maybe we can use that 'Lies to hide the truth', stuff." "I dunno, Dave. That's what those pedos do. We do that, folks are going to keep a closer eye on us, because they'll be wondering what the truth really is." "Ouch. Ok. Bad idea. Sorry. That reminds me. Is this Minion stuff until we grow up, or can we make it for life?" Pixie sighed and went back to being Kioko. "People are going to want us to keep it serious. We all have to grow up, someday. Even me. It's up to you guys, really. You're my friends, no matter where this crazy stuff takes us, ok? I... I won't lie about it. I need you, or people like you, to help me keep it all in perspective." She bent her head. "But guys? You all got free will, ya know? Don't do what you think is right for me, or us. Do what's right for you, ok? Me? I got duties and other stuff that's a part of who I am." Karen sighed. "That Muse stuff?" "That's some of it. I don't know what a lot of it might be. I have to let it hit me, then I get to decide how I want to deal with it. Like that stuff today. I just found out I need to know a lot more, so I can think about more than the immediate stuff." "So if we stick around, we'll have to think about more than ourselves, too?" "You're my inner circle, Karen. I hate to be blunt, but you guys forced it on me. I'm glad you did, now, but if you want to walk away, no hard feelings, and you'll still be my friends." "Damn, Kio. That's worse. Friends are like... forever. Minions is like a job that we can leave at the office." "Yes. And I'm Pixie. Be nice if I had some people around me who can help me keep Kioko and Pixie from becoming one person." "What about Blackie?" "I dunno. I think we have a connection, but... I gotta talk to him about what happened today. I think it's going to change things. A lot." Karen sighed. "Call him. Now." "Yeah." She dug her phone out, sighed, then called Glenn. "Hi, Kio. You ok?" She raised her eyebrows, then let him hear her sigh. "No. I'm scared. Can't think, only react, ya know?" "I do. You gotta learn to control your tail tip better. Need me?" "Yes. Your arms... All of it, if you're still willing to be there for me." "Shit! Get over here! Now, Kio. Back porch." "Love you, Honey. Thanks." She hung up and stared at her phone. "Looks like we got a connection, still." She vanished. Karen looked at her friends, then sighed. "Guys? I don't care what anyone else thinks, we all look stupid in bathrobes and skull masks." She took her mask off and looked at it. "Would you believe I forgot I had this thing on?" She sighed again. "Come on. Let's go back to being whoever we really are, and put all this stuff away. We got the stuff for a picnic, so anyone who wants to stay, can keep me company until they have to go home." ==== Pixie 004 --- Kioko was reading her email when a subject line got her attention. She read the email, frowned, reread it, then sighed and waited for her father to take his break from writing. "Dad?" "What, Hon?" "Can you take a look at this email I got? I've been getting a lot of this stuff since the interview, ya know? Anyway, this one got past my filters, and... I dunno." "Tell me about it." "Well, somebody wants to pay all of us to do some voice work in an animated series about us. They'll come up with better costumes, and all that. They want to pay to send us on tour, so we can promote it, and set up my shrine, which they're calling a 'pedo catcher'." "Pretty creative, for a phishing email." "Yeah. Then, at the end, it gets *really* strange." "Oh?" "Uh huh. I checked all the links and phone numbers, and they match the ones on the official web site for this company." "Smooth." "I know, but that isn't the strange stuff. At the end, this person says: 'Ask your father if he's willing to do a followup documentary while you folks are still hot properties, and either way, he should call my private number, if he still has it. Regards, Lani.' Her father got up, then walked over and braced on the back of her chair while he read the email. Finally, he sighed and went back to his chair. He leaned back, sighed again, then told her the last thing she expected to hear. "Lani is legit, Kio. I don't know what she's doing, being an agent for an animation studio, but since she wants me to call her, I will." "She a special friend, or something?" "I suppose she's more 'something', than a special friend. Lani is the woman who did that documentary about me, Cerberus, and Ke. Matter of fact, the Frisbee exhibitions were her idea, after she dug real deep and found out about my past." He opened his contact list, found the number he wanted, then hit Speakerphone and let it dial. "Lani speaking. Hello, Glenn. I see I'm not the only person who hangs on to their phone number." "Been a few years, hasn't it? You're on the speaker, and my daughter is with me. What happened? You finally found something more insane to do, than con a Father, his Muse, and the Dog of Hades, into giving Frisbee exhibitions?" "It wasn't *my* idea, Glenn. I'm just the senior partner, and my staff smells the kind of exposure and money that will make us a serious player, finally. I'll admit I've always wanted to do a followup documentary. We can talk about that, later. I'm about an hour away, and if you folks are willing to get me through the gate, I'd like to see all of you in person. I think we should hold off, on bringing in Pixie's Minions, until you've heard all of it." Her father sighed. "I'm ok with it, if Kio is." Kioko took a deep breath and let it out. "Lani? You do know this sounds more insane than the interview we did? An animated *series*?" "That was the teaser. What we'd like to do first, is a live action cable mini-series." "Oh. Yeah, sure. I gotta hear this. Can I improve our position, by asking Mama Ke to set a place for you?" "Please! Ask her if she wants to do some sort of special, about what Muses do, to relax. See you folks when I get there." Kioko studied her father, who was studying her. "Dad? Forget about a fancy dinner. Let's make it a double picnic. I'll get Blackie and the Minions. I don't want to make *that* mistake again." He smiled at her. "I'll get everyone else here. Street clothes, for all of us?" "Sounds good. I'll have them bring all the concept sketches. Should I do any field enhancement?" "Suppress it, so we can all focus better. If you decide you need to get rid of any of it, give it to Bruce, since he's going to be negotiating for me and our side. You'll have to decide if you want him working for you folks." "Dad? That's Evil. Anything else?" "Probably, but lets get the basics dealt with. We can worry about the rest, when we hear what Lani wants. Go." She vanished. Glenn thought about it, then reached for the intercom. "Security. What can we do for you, Mr. Glenncannon?" "We're expecting company. A woman by the name of Lani. Let her in, by herself. Anyone else who says they want in, to see me, or any of my family, keep them out unless one of us vouches for them in person. Expect Paparazzi, so... get some more people here, and send us the bill, like usual." "Yes, Sir. We'll warn your neighbors that their usual guests might be delayed. Anything else?" "If anyone asks, we'll have a statement for the media, tomorrow." "Got it. Have a pleasant evening, Mr Glenncannon." "Thanks. Glad to have you here." * * * Glenn, Kioko and Sir Bruce were waiting when Lani was delivered by a security cart. After she was in front of them, Glenn offered her his hand. "Good to see you, Lani. Since Kio's significant other is here, and his name is Glenn, everyone is going to be calling me Jack, to avoid confusion." She shook his hand, and smiled. "Well, Jack. Who do I admire for the smoothness that stripped my field crew from me?" "Blame me. It was less... embarrassing for you, if I did it that way, than letting them in and having you find out when you got back, that none of their fancy gear worked." Her eyebrows went up, then down. "I see, I think." She studied the girl next to Jack. "You must be Kioko. That Kimono is very becoming." "Thank you. It is also less silly than our bathrobes." "Our?" "All of my My Minions are here, along with my boyfriend. I didn't tell them everything, once, and we got bit pretty good. It's not a mistake I want to repeat, when I know I can avoid it." Lani smiled. "Something I can relate to." She offered Bruce the back of her hand. "Hello, Sir Bruce." "Just Bruce, this time." He nuzzled her hand, inhaled, then turned his head away and snorted, before he looked at her. "You've been consorting with embezzlers recently. A new project?" "No. All I did was check in with our accounting department, so I could get an idea of how far we could go, before I *have* to tell you folks, you reached the limit of our funds." He finally nodded. "Well, if you're happy with your people, you're happy with them." He opened the door. "Everyone is out back. It's set up as two loosely joined picnic groups. Ke is handling the cooking." One of his heads focused on her. "Both groups voted to let me handle the tedious details, if they decide to get serious about closing the deal." She finally smiled. "So I've been consorting with embezzlers. Interesting. Let's go see what we can do, to make sure you get to deal with 'the tedious details'." ==== Pixie 005 --- Satan settled with Kioko and her Minions, then smiled. "Relax. All I want to do, is pass on our thanks, for a job well done." They all looked at Kioko, and she smiled. "Here's your chance, to get some personal attention, and nothing you do or say here, will change things. Free time." Karen sighed. "Scary stuff, Kio. Ok, Satan. It started as Mall Rat stuff, then it got serious." He nodded. "We're familiar with the problem, since essentially, that's what happened to us. Go on." "You guys were Mall Rats?!" "Pretty much so. Just some folks out looking for a good time, and... I guess you could say it found us." "Wow. So... This is going to sound sorta stupid, since we're in the middle, but we're wondering what the job was, that deserves the 'well done'." "Fair enough, and pretty good. I should have expected that, from Pixie's request to fast track all of you. The request has been approved, since we're always short handed. That's long term, so we'll get back to it later. The 'job', was something a lot of people are working on, and you kids got it done first. You gave us the excuse we needed, so we can spend some time dropping in on the people at the top, so we can maybe convince them that we're not very happy about some of the tings they do, in our names. Included in those talks, will be some pretty radical policy changes." "Like man's laws coming first, when the religion is directly involved?" "Yes." "Umm... Good. Ok. I guess the only other question I have, is pretty selfish." "No problem. Granting selfish wishes is what I do the best." "Oh. Dumb me. I want to do this stuff that Lani told us about, because I want the money, more than I'm worried about sending some sort of message. Will you be ok with that?" "I'm ok with that. Karen, it really doesn't matter if you do it, or not, because people are already making their own videos of you folks. About all this will do, is let you sleep better, because you'll know that you had your say. People are going to see and interpret it all, however they want to. Nothing you can do about that, except damage control." He stopped, looked down, and sighed. "Which is what God and I are finally doing. We should have done it a long time ago, but we don't see time the way you do, and..." He raised his head and gestured vaguely. "We were having so much fun, we got bit pretty badly. If you kids learn from our mistakes, that will be enough, because we're paying pretty close attention to the lessons you're teaching *us*." "Umm... That's pretty surreal, ya know? So you think we should do it?" "I do. You people have a saying about riding the tiger, Karen. When it happens, you can stay on, or you can get off." "Yeah. One way, we're already on, the other, we're still off. Screw it. I'm gonna go for the ride, because being poor, sucks. I'll worry about the message, when someone asks me what it is. Thanks." "You're welcome. Anyone else?" Blackie nodded. "Mom and Dad have always figured I'd wind up in his church." "It's normal for that to happen." "Yeah. I know, since I hear it all the time. Anyway, all I can say is that maybe I will do that 'work for God' stuff, after I die." "Pixie has clued you in, about how that really works?" "Yes." "Good. Go on." "I guess you know that Kio can tell what's in people's hearts, even yours and God's?" "She was designed to be that way, so she can do her job properly, *if* she chooses to do it. If she doesn't, we'll keep trying, until we find someone who is willing to tackle it. We're already giving serious consideration to asking her father to try it out." "Uhh... I need to think about that. Anyway, what I want isn't much. Will you bless our relationship? I don't think having God do it, would mean anything to me, right now, and... I don't want to find out if I'm right, about his blessings being less sincere than yours." "You have them." "Thank you, Satan, for both of us." "An earned gift. I don't think His blessings are any less sincere than mine, but that is my opinion, and I know I don't see the world the same way you do. Think of it this way. I have a craftsman's view of the world. God deals with the finished product. There are details that he will never know about, that I know intimately. At the same time, he has an appreciation for a much larger picture, that I only see as individual parts. If you wish to discuss that with someone who understands both aspects, spend some time with Father Glenncannon, because as an author, he is comfortable seeing the world both ways." Kioko's eyes widened, and Satan smiled. "Just so. Your father is our confessor, because we know his view of life here is more 'true' than ours." He stood. "And now, I should go back to my cooking." They watched him leave and go over to talk about something with Ketaki, then Kioko sighed. "Ok. Being in has nothing to do with my job, but I'm in. Like he said, if people want to see some sort of message in it, we can't stop them. If I have a complaint about it, it's how they want to go over the top with the special effects." Karen looked around. "You guys know I'm in it mostly for the money. And yeah, ok, the designs for our clothing are good, too. If they weren't so serious about the line of toys and stuff that will tie in, I'd be thinking they're pretty nuts." Blackie chuckled. "Maybe we can use that. Use the cable series for the origin story, then take the animated stuff over the top. Way over. Sort of like a 'League of Evil', and we're doing the good stuff, because we're tired of being stereotyped, so we're taking on our own people." Julliette laughed. "Kids revolting against our parents, like you are?" He winced, then decided to laugh. "Yeah. Like that. That's what made me think of it. Make it a reverse of all the religious wars that are supposed to be about Good against Good, or Good against Evil." He turned so he could look at Lani. "I'm in. Do you think your people would be willing to switch to something like modern evil against ancient evil, as the basic conflict?" She sighed. "Right now, I think they'd try anything, just as long as it has your approval. That's an edge we all want, because... like Karen said, being poor, sucks." David chortled. "What if we did some sort of 'Born Again Evil Minions' thing? We're just kids, and we're upset with the old folks and their tolerance of people who aren't 'pure'. That would give us a real good reason to go after folks like those clergy who are pedos. Make them declare for one side or the other. No more on the fence stuff." Lani was shaking her head. "It sounds like I can consider all of you in?" Kioko nodded. "Blackie and I are in, and we know Karen is in. That leaves twelve, to declare themselves. Way I see it, you can use those of us who are in right now, to get started. Those who don't want in, can still be my minions in real life, if they want to, and we'll treat the series stuff like it's a side job. Anyone wants in later, or out, same deal. No hard feelings, or pressure about it. Hey! If those of you who stay out, want to play it like a schism in the ranks, go for it!" She pointed at David. "Dave? We'll start with you." "In. Definitely. My family might freak, some, but money talks pretty good, so if I have a check in my hand, soon, they'll go along with me. Being able to opt out cleanly will help, too. It might be fun to have some of us be conflicted, and we do the switching stuff until we settle on one side or the other." "Got it. Julliette?" "In. Make me some sort of over-dedicated type, who has it in for priests and people like them." Kioko raised her eyebrows, and Julliette shrugged. "I think Carl's cute, and he should have some inside help he can count on, if he gets involved in this." "Right. Lani? You heard?" "I did. One of our worries was how to match the animated characters to the real people and their personalities. The more we can establish in the live-action series, the easier it will be to produce an animated series that doesn't have that 'So-and-so isn't like that!' feel to it." Kioko made the rounds, and when it was over, everyone had declared themselves in, with the option to opt out at any time, if they felt it was something they had to do. When the voting was over, Lani smiled. "Thank you, all of you. I will now let Sir Bruce know what is going on with you folks, and before I leave, he and I will settle on how much I should write the checks for, that will be payments for your 'series consultation services'. Once all the paperwork is taken care of, I will see that all of you have access to our studios, so you can... help our people make sure what they come up with is suitably over the top. They're pretty good, but I don't think they're up to consistently maintaining the standard you folks set during that interview." She walked away, and Karen was the one who recovered first. "Someday, I'm going to be that casual about money." Julliette giggled. "It's a lot easier, when you know the money you're spending isn't yours, and you have orders to spend what it takes, to get what you want!" ==== Pixie 006 --- Lani finally left, with Sir Bruce escorting her, so they could discuss what they wanted to say during the brief statement they'd decided to give the media. Everyone else finally left, and after they picked things up, everyone settled in the living room. Kioko settled on the rug, studied the check she held, then put it on the coffee table. "Dad?" "A problem?" "Not really. I guess I'm nervous about what's going to happen next month." "You'll get used to having the cameras around, fairly quickly." That's not what I'm worried about. It's my friends. I'm worried about how much it's going to mess with their lives." "The documentary is about us, not them, so as long as they don't come here, they won't have to worry." "What about when I go there?" "Same thing. Since you are going to be working on the series stuff, they agreed that unless you're with us, you'll be ignored." "By them." "True." "Ok. I'll be somewhere out back, if anyone needs me." * * * Kioko was lying on her back and staring at the darkness, when she felt someone approaching. "Relax, Bro. I was hoping you'd show up." "Hoping? You're changing a lot, all of a sudden, Sis." "You will too, someday." "That a big hint, that I need to figure out how I want to deal with Julliette?" "Might depend, but yes, you can call it a hint, if you needed it." "Thanks. I did, because I'm used to adults, even if they are ones that are pretty emotionally stunted." "Don't sweat it. Just get her off somewhere you can be alone, and be honest with her. She's going to be pretty scared, because she knows you got way more experience than she does, when it comes to sex." "Less, with the serious emotional stuff, Sis." "I know, kinda." "Work?" "Yes. If you can't talk to Dad, talk to Glenn, his dad, or one of the minions. Oh. Sorry. You were with the others, so you never got asked if you want to help with the series stuff. It's opt in, and you can get out whenever you want, and no hard feelings. We're all in, and we're treating it like an outside job." "Of course I'm in, Sis. Way I see it, anything that makes it so the pedos in the clergy, pay in this life, I gotta do it. It's my job. You going to tell me what you're ducking?" "I wish you'd been there. Satan did some ducking. I think he bailed out of answering questions, sooner than he really wanted to." "You get that from his field?" "Yes. It was pretty obvious he cut the Q and A off." "Yeah? That's not like him." "I know. I didn't say anything, and I'm pretty sure he cut it off because I was there and he didn't want me asking an awkward question, that he doesn't want to answer." "Weird." "Very. What's like, Bro? What's it like, to know what your real job is? Did you have the option of choosing to not do it, like I do?" "Whoa, Sis! Are you telling me you don't know what your job is? Or are you saying you do know, but you aren't doing it yet?" "I don't know. Satan said something real strange, just before he bailed out. Something about he and God are doing some real serious thinking about letting Dad have a shot at it, if I decide I don't want to do it." "Dad?!" "Yes." Carl stretched out on his back, and looked at the dark sky for a long time, before he sighed. "I don't get it, Sis. That would make some sense only if it's something Dad can do after he dies. He works more for God, than he does Satan, and I don't think that's likely to change. You thinking about switching?" "No. What I'm doing in Hades feels right for me to do. I'm uncle Bruce's understudy, so I guess they might be grooming me to fill in for him, someday." "Oh. I get it now. Whatever the job is, it must be something that will be done here." "Uh huh. I haven't said anything to anyone except you, about not knowing what job I was designed to do. It's weird, that Satan said I have the option of refusing, in front of all my minions, and Lani. I think..." "Yeah?" "I think he did it deliberately." "Umm... Sort of like those pedos do, to lead me into things? Lots of hints, and then I have to figure it out, to make it look like I'm initiating things?" "Yes. I think he's done a lot of little things, to set me up, and now it's up to me, or maybe me and my friends, to figure it out, then decide if we want to do it." "All of you?!" "He emphasized that doing this series stuff will be like doing damage control. We can't change how people think about us, but we can get our side out there. He also emphasized that us and them are a lot alike. We're kids out to have a good time, and we got bit. He said that's what he and God were doing. They were looking for a good time, it found them, and I guess they made some serious mistakes, because they're finally doing some damage control, and watching us to learn what they can so they don't make things worse." "You think you and I are part of that damage control stuff?" "I don't know. Oh. Wait. Sure. We have to be part of it. He thanked us for a job well done, and when she asked what the job was, he told Karen we'd set things up so he and God could have a good excuse to get in the top folks' faces about some of the things they're doing and saying, that isn't what they wanted. It's going to get interesting, because there are going to be some major policy changes pretty soon." "You think they're going to stay hands on for awhile?" "Have to, if they want stuff to change and stay changed. Mom's already done the 'I told you so' stuff." "Which mom?" "Sorry. Yours. She's pretty special." "Yeah? What's so special about her? Isn't being a Muse, enough?" Kioko rolled to her side so she could study her brother. "Damn, Bro. You got a weird briefing, if nobody told you how important Ketaki is." He sighed. "Sis? I got told enough to know what I had to do right away, so I wouldn't let myself change a whole lot, on the outside. Satan wanted me to be pretty innocent, otherwise." "Ok. Ketaki, is 'The Muse's Muse'. She's in charge of the Muse's Council." "Like a CEO or something?" "Yes. I think that's how come Satan and God are dropping in all the time. She and uncle Bruce are the closest thing they have to experts on how humans think." She sighed. "Except for us and Dad." "Oh." "Anyway, Bro, you done ducking?" "You helped. I'm real driven, Sis. I'm hoping that once there are more like me, I'll be able to relax. What's weird, is that until you mentioned it, I never thought about having the option of saying no. I've already figured out that I'm going to be commuting a lot, if I keep wanting to set pedos up. Have to, if I want to make a real difference, and not just drive them somewhere else." "We live in a pretty big city. You can stay busy here for a long time." "Maybe. I need to remember to check in and find out what they want me to do." "Like those random drug tests? Move around so they don't set up a club somewhere else?" "Yeah. Wish they'd given me the ability to understand fields, like you can." "Sometimes it sucks, Bro." "Oh?" "I pick up on creativity, sure, but stop and think about it. Any time you're making a decision, you're being creative. It's like living in a room full of people who are talking all the time. And because so many people are doing stuff on all the social media sites and stuff, it can get pretty intense. Plus, in order to do my job in Hades right, I have to be able to tell what they are being creative about. It's like being able to look at someone and know what they are thinking, almost all of the time. Makes it impossible for me to have what humans think of as a normal relationship." "I get it. Does Glenn know?" "He does, and sure, it bothers him, but not for the reasons you'd think." "Oh?" "The no privacy, he's used to. It's not that much different than having a priest for a father. What bugs him, is knowing that if I wanted to, I could lie or hide stuff, and he'll never know it. He doesn't have a choice, I do." "Our Moms and Dad make it work." "Regular Muses are different. Dad can hide from them, because they can't read fields the way I can." "You the only one?" "For now. Ketaki gave orders that nobody is to do anything that might create someone else like me, until we've had some time to see how I work out. I don't think I'm an alpha version, but I'm definitely a beta version of whatever it is I'm supposed to be." "Anything you think they should do differently, Sis?" "Not yet. Can't make those decisions until I know what I was designed to do, and start doing it." "If you don't do it, they'll try again." "Satan already said they would, and I think they'll blow it, and keep blowing it, until somebody like you or I tells them they need to change the way they think." "Radical. You sounded pretty certain. Tell me?" "Yes. Sure. Tell me something, Bro. I know you haven't been doing your thing with the pedos for very long, but I bet you and the other kids got pretty tight with each other." "Yeah. We did. Who else can we talk to, about it all?" "Point. So... You were some sort of leader, and a lot of them looked to you?" "Uh huh. Pretty scary, because I knew that if I blew it, it might mess them up worse, and for the rest of their lives." "I know a lot about that. Now, stop and think about this, because I need your best answer. While all that was going on, did they do the usual stuff, and some of them trusted you more than others, and did you use the ones who trusted you the most, to relay stuff to the kids you couldn't talk to directly?" "Of course." "Damn. I was hoping you'd managed to avoid that." "Avoid what?!" "Maybe it happens because of human nature." "Huh?!" "How's it feel, to have your own 'Disciples', Bro?" "Are you nuts?!" "No. I'm scared, because I'm pretty sure that one of us is going to have to tell God and Satan that *if* they want their damage control to work, they're going to have to stop reusing a solution that doesn't work. I don't even have a clue if they might be repeating themselves unconsciously." "Will you *please* talk some sense?" "They're still using 'leaders and followers', to solve the problems and get their word out. That's fine, in a structured society, but there are a lot of independent people out there, and there's something worse. The leader-follower stuff works, only if the leader sticks around and keeps things on track. As soon as the original leader leaves, someone else steps in, and reinterprets stuff. Do that long enough and you get..." Carl sighed. "What we got now. You think that's your job? Find a solution?" "It might be part of it." "You know, Sis, there must be a reason we're together and have the same father." "Other than he's the first mortal to have two Muses in his life all the time?" "Oh. Other Muses are in non standard relationships, so they could have created us a long time ago." "Yep. I dunno, Bro. Maybe you have a point, but I can't think of what would justify giving us the same parents. Guess I'm gonna have to let my job bite me." "Yeah. And I need to think about my options, now that I know I can say no." Kioko didn't say anything, and the two of them were still on their backs and staring at the sky when dawn arrived. ==== End: The Glenncannon Muses Part 4 of 4 -- Pursuant to the Berne Convention, this work is copyright with all rights reserved by its author unless explicitly indicated. +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | alt.sex.stories.moderated ------ send stories to: <ckought69@hotmail.com>| | FAQ: <http://assm.asstr-mirror.org/faq.html> Moderators: <story-ckought69@hotmail.com> | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |ASSM Archive at <http://assm.asstr-mirror.org> Hosted by <http://www.asstr-mirror.org> | |Discuss this story and others in alt.sex.stories.d; look for subject {ASSD}| +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
