Eggplant (Mf, inc, bro, sis) by Uncle Sky

   Chapter 09

Jen and I stayed in the house we had lived in all our lives. Mom and
Dad had purchased the house right after they were married. It was home.
But we made plans over time about what we would do after we graduated.

Jen graduated from High School without much more help from me. She was
a smart young lady and once she got her confidence built up she really
didn't need much help. I didn't use Eggplant any more.

I managed to graduate from University at around the same time. My major
was Business. I had planned to take over from my Dad but that was not to
be.

We talked about how we could get married. It would be tricky but unless
someone really investigated we should be able to do it. For our first step
we waited until after graduation. Jen turned 18 by then and I was no
longer her guardian. She was able to make her own decisions. Jen needed
to change her name legally. She decided to use Mom's maiden name. We had
Bob handle it for her. We told him it was to honer Mom. I think he
suspected something but never mentioned it. Bob arranged for all our
accounts to show the new name. After the name change, I made a copy of her
new birth certificate and changed the names of her parents to our maternal
grand parents names. Then I copied it again. The new copy looked legit
and showed no sign of tampering. We kept all the old papers and used them
for a while till we took the next step.

We decided, after some thought, that we wanted to travel. We had more
money than we knew what to do with so we put off Jen's further education,
bought a camper and took off to see the country. I think, over the next
six months we hit every state and most if not all National Parks. We
stopped in Reno and using Jen's new birth certificate, we got married in a
small Chapel across from the Court House. We honeymooned at Lake Tahoe.
We rented an apartment for two months to establish residency. While we
waited for the time to go by, we traveled around the state. At the end of
the two months we applied for and received new drivers licenses. We now
could show being married when ever we wanted to. Then we left to travel
some more.

Jen had decided she wanted to go to Nursing School. She wanted to be
like Mom. As we traveled around the country, we checked out a number of
Nursing Schools. We found a well respected school in a town we liked with
a nice climate. For the time being we rented a small home. We weren't
sure how long we would stay.

Jen started school and I found I had nothing to do. I was not used to
being idle. As I traveled around our new town, to get used to it, I passed
by a nice looking Service Station with a for sale sign out front. There
was an old man in the office and I stopped to talk to him. He told me the
station was doing well but he was more than ready to retire. He had no
family to take over so he was selling out. I made no commitment but got
all the details. That night I talked it over with Jen and she agreed it
would be a good way for me to keep busy at something I was good at. We
made the deal. The old man stayed around for a while to let me get to know
the station and his customers, then he moved to Florida.

I wasn't sure how long we would stay but knew it would be at least until
Jen got her RN. As it turned out, after only a year we decided we liked
the place and would make it our new home. We shopped around and found a
nice house that was bigger than we needed but was large enough for a
family. We both wanted kids after a few years.

The days, weeks and months rolled by. We were happy living as man and
wife. Nobody locally knew we were siblings. Then one day we received word
that Bob had passed away from a sudden heart attack. His firm assured me
they would continue to handle our affairs if we were willing. Jen and I
talked it over. We were settled in the new town and had business and
banking ties there. We were in fact friends with the branch manager of the
local bank where we did business. We met with him and explained our
financial affairs that were being run by Bob's firm. He said his bank
would be very pleased to take over the financial side of things and
recommended a local lawyer for the legal side. The lawyer was young and
had not been practicing long but was highly respected by the community. He
had finished at the top of his class and published the Law Review while in
University.

We met with Sam Jenkins, the lawyer, and after paying a small retainer
in order to obtain client privilege, we explained our situation. He agreed
he could represent us and take over our affairs from Bob's firm if that was
our desire. I looked at Jen and she nodded. We made the deal. Sam drew
up all the papers that would be needed to make the transfer. We agreed on
a retainer which I paid, and we left.

The next step was a trip back to our old home town. We stayed at the
same hotel we had stayed at that first night we were together. That night
was like a repeat of our first time. We were tired but happy the next
morning. We went to Bob's firm's office and met with the new head of the
firm. I explained that we were very pleased with the way things had been
handled by them but that we wanted to have a local lawyer and banker in our
new home handle our affairs now that Bob was gone. He understood and we
all signed the papers Sam had prepared. He had his secretary get a final
statement of our account and I wrote him a check with a hefty bonus for all
the good work they had done for us. I asked that he share it with those
who actually did the work. He promised he would.

We stayed another day to look around. Our old home had been remodeled
into a duplex and no longer looked like the home we knew for so many years.
I drove by the place where Dad's old station had been and found there was a
children's park there with lots of kids having fun. That pleased Jen and
I. We went back to the hotel and got ready to leave. Before we checked out
we went up to the roof where they had a place to sit in the sun. We took a
few minutes to look over our old home town, then bid a silent farewell to
the place we had called home. We were a little sad as we left town but
cheered up as we neared our home. Yes, we thought of it ads our home now.
Not new home or anything like that. It was and still is our home.

We settled in and made friends with our neighbors and my customers. We
started to attend church near where we lived and became a part of the
community. We were known as husband and wife by all but Sam and he would
never mention anything. We were happy.

Time passed. Jen finished her nurses training at the top of her class
and got a job at the local hospital. She worked there for twenty years
with short time outs to have two children, a boy and a girl. She worked
her way up and retired as Chief of Nursing.

I built up my service station and after a while I purchased some land
around it. I had a few customers over time that couldn't pay their bills
and signed over their cars to me as payment. I put the cars up for sale on
the lot next to the station. I was quickly informed I needed a business
license to sell cars. I went ahead and got one. Before I realized what
was happening I found myself with a used car lot. After a couple of years
I expanded to a New Car dealership. I combined the station and dealerships
and named it J. D. Monroe and Son. It was very successful and when I
decided to retire, my son took over and still runs it.

Jen and I are now retired. We have five grand children that keep us
busy if we get bored. We travel from time to time and have seen much of
the world. We are happy.

When our children were grown and had families of their own we sat them
down and explained why they didn't have two sets of grand parents. They
were shocked at first but after thinking it over and realizing how happy we
were, they accepted our being brother and sister. We even told them about
Eggplant.

Speaking of Eggplant, we celebrate two anniversaries. One is our
wedding anniversary and the other is that day we went to the hotel. On
that anniversary, just for fun, I look Jen in the eye and say "Eggplant".
She still responds by going into a trance. We make love and I wake her up
as we finish. She remembers it all.

I hope you have enjoyed our story.
   End of Chapter 09.
