The Long Weekend (Part 1 & 2) -- Emi Tsuruta

Four friends take a holiday to the beach. While on the road trip,
Emi discovers the subtle thrill of being naked. Sometimes it is in a
hotel within sight of others, sometimes it is in a restaurant,
sometimes in the woods, sometimes just walking around without
panties under her skirt. The trick, of course, is to ensure that
nobody does find out -- except those that she wants to.

If I had any real complaint, I must admit to some confusion about
the friends and their relationships. It may have been the unfamiliar
names, where I couldn't readily tell the female from the male
characters, but that very well may be an artifact of the Japanese
names used in the story. Compounding this, though, is that Emi kind
of tosses us into the story, assuming that we know the friends. That
can work in some stories, though in this one, I personally found it
distracting as I tried to figure out who Emi was really talking
about in any particular passage. Nevertheless, the complaint is a
minor one, and I'm not sure there is any easy solution. It's Emi's
style, and there's nothing inherently wrong with it. The fault
easily could lie with the reader. I'm sure that the characters and
the delineations between them would be more obvious to someone more
familiar with Japanese names.

Overall, the story isn't particularly deep, but I thought Emi did a
great job of building the excitement of the forbidden, the
excitement of maybe being caught. This is one of the better
exhibitionism stories that I've read recently. It certainly is sexy
if voyeurism and exhibitionism are your thing.

You may want to ignore the technical/character scores below. I mean,
it is an exhibitionism story at heart -- it doesn't have to be deep
or meaningful. And Emi does get a surprising amount of character
into her narrator. Take it for what it is, and enjoy.

NOT A KNIGHT In Shining Armor... -- Gary Jordan

A short story originally submitted for the Virago Blue Challenge. Our
heroine has just received a gleaming new piece of furniture. Even
while she'd love to stand and admire it, she decides to bathe
first. That's when disaster strikes and our helpless, naked heroine
finds herself in a ... rather precarious position. What is a girl
to do? Our heroine comes up with a rather punny plan, and the
result is a wonderful Gary Jordan original.

There isn't much to say about this short story without giving
away more than the synopsis already does. But I will say: it
is sexy (even with the no-sex code), impossible to put down,
and left me smiling right to the end.

Loved it.

Eddie finds his fourteen-year-old sister crying by herself one day.
As most big brothers might, Eddie tries to comfort his sister. You
see, Cates is upset about some incident with her boyfriend. She wants
to know how a person knows when someone loves another. Not losing
a beat, Eddie shows her, which shocks both of them. And so begins
a rather strange brother-sister relationship that finally ends up
more sexual than not.

As most of you are aware, I'm not a huge fan of incest stories, though
I think I can understand the appeal of the taboo. This story didn't
particularly strike any chords in me. Even though nitetimeguy does
show us a great deal of uncertainty between Eddie and Cates, and
I even admire the plot device where the siblings avoid actual intercourse
for the most part, I still couldn't help wondering about the damage,
emotional and otherwise, that these two characters were going to
run into later in life. Maybe I was supposed to be considering that,
even if Eddie and Cates didn't.

As I said above, the sex is kind of muted to exploration, kissing and
foreplay for most of the story, with a bit of cum-shot fetish thrown
in for good measure. In some ways, it did build some suspense, and
tried to walk a fine line between incest and simply playing around
harmlessly. There is the underage factor to consider for those
squicked by portrayals of fourteen year-old girls with eighteen
year-old brothers.

I couldn't help feeling sorry for Cates, that she wasn't able to
rely on her brother without being inappropriately kissed -- even
if she liked it and actively sought the attention later. But
that is really a sign that I cared for the characters a little.
I suspect the author simply took the story in a direction that
was outside my comfort zone.

If you can't tell by the commentary, I'm kind of on the fence with
this story. It was somewhere in the middle for me. Not a great deal
of depth here -- simply a rendition of incestuous fantasy. This
isn't really enough for me, but it might be for some readers.

Chocolate-Covered Cheerleaders in the Skanky Boonies -- Father Ignatius

On a bus, somewhere between Richmond and the skanky boonies, a squad
of urban cheerleaders prepare themselves to make money for the next
cheerleader convention trip, or whatever. Their benefactor: none
other than the chocolate obsessed Gary Jordan (who is also
reviewed above). Or maybe it's another Gary Jordan ... *grin*.

I'll admit that parts of the story were a little distracting.
Specifically, I found the "alternate" names unnecessary, though I
know what Ignatius was going for; for me, it didn't work. I did
like the offhand commentary, though. Perhaps it is my admittedly 
warped sense of humour kicking in.

You'll note that there isn't a humour score below, but sometimes I
think there should be.  This story's strength is satirical, and I
did find myself grinning through most of it. Ignatius captures the
essence of the urban cheerleader, and in that, there is humour. One
must take the story in this context to understand its ultimate
meaning, I think.

Overall, a fun story, and certainly worth a glance.
