Paradise Island - Ingrid's Tale, part 0 of 4

By Kjell Madsen, 2004

Preface

The intention with this preface is to help you decide if this
story is something for you. The story itself is in parts 1-4.

Caveats:

This story contains sexual themes, words, and situations. If you
are underage, don't read it. If you don't like this sort of
stuff, don't read it. This is not a 'stroke-story' -- if that's
what you are looking for, you are wasting your time.

Story codes:

Framework: mf, Ff, f-solo, SciFi
Ingrid's narration: ff, mff, FF+, M+F+, Fdom, rom, slow, caution

These are the general codes that I think best describes the story
as a whole. I put in caution because there are elements in
various chapters that, technically, might deserve harsher codes.
However, these elements are not described in detail. See chapter
breakdown below for additional codes for the prudish. On the
other hand, hardened ASSM habitus might argue that the whole
story should be labelled 'no-sex' -- there *is* sex in it but it
is described without 11-inch penises, orgasmic shrieks with
multiple exclamation marks, floods of sperm and vaginal fluids,
and similar graphical details.

Plea for feedback:

I love feedback but seldom get any. Please, send an e-mail and
tell me what you think to kjell (DOT) madsen (AT) home (DOT) se.

Background:

Five years ago, I posted a story (Paradise Island -- The
Adventures of a Slave Girl) about a young, ambitious journalist
(Linda Plummer) who went to a resort on a tropical island to
investigate whether a job as 'hostess' really was something else.
She fell in love with a native young man (Peo) and stayed on the
island, even though she had to accept a (well paid) contract as
'slavegirl' together with ten other girls. The story follows her
life for two years until she marries her lover at the end. (It
was my first story and I think I'm a better author now. However,
it has a certain naive charm, and I might post a revised version
if there are sufficient demands for it.)

The present story occurs in the same 'universe' as my earlier
story and the main character (Ingrid) had a role in that one too.
As a Swede, it amused me to put a Swedish girl as a minor
character among the slavegirls, and to make her very different
from the usual stereotype of 'Svenska Flicka' (i.e. tall, blond
and blue-eyed). However, Ingrid had other ideas -- she became
almost a major character, and she actually married the
billionaire who owned the resort. The story-line didn't allow her
as much space as she deserved, and the thought of making Ingrid
the main character in her own tale has grown on my mind for some
time. In fact, Ingrid nagged me to write her tale, almost from
the completion of the previous story, and I finally gave in.
(Yes, I know -- Ingrid is a completely fictional character but
she, or the part of my subconscious that impersonates her, seems
like a 'real' person to me.) I hope that you will find the story
of her life appealing. The major part of the story is written in
first person, with Ingrid herself as narrator. There is also a
surrounding 'framework' in which Ingrid is telling her tale to
her great granddaughter (Jenny).

Because of its length, the story has been split into four parts
and this separate preface (counted as part 0). This division in
parts is arbitrary and has nothing to do with the story-line. A
more logical division might be:

the prologue, which introduces Ingrid (96) and Jenny (16), living
in a space-habitat, and makes Ingrid agree to tell the tale about
her life;
chapters 1-3, which give a background to Ingrid's character;
chapters 4-11, which tell the original story from Ingrid's point
of view;
chapters 12-16, which tell about Ingrid's life on Paradise Island
after her wedding;
chapter 17, which is an intermission that explains the worsening
situation on Earth (I hope I'm not a soothsayer);
chapters 18-21, which tells about the flight from Paradise Island
and brings the tale to the 'present' in the framework story;
chapter 22 and the epilogue, which complete the life of Ingrid
and contain the seeds of a new story about the colonization of
Venus. (I don't promise anything, but I might get around to that
one in the future.)

Disclaimer:

This is a work of fiction and the characters are fictional
(except that a few well-known persons appear peripherally as
public figures). Any similarity to real people, living or dead,
is entirely accidental. Places and events that serve as
backgrounds to the story are modelled on their 'real'
counterparts and I have strived to keep them as close to the
original as possible. However, I have not hesitated to use my
'poetic license' to change them, as required by my story. In
particular, the island Rarotonga has nothing to do with the
island with the same name in the Cook's Islands group -- my
fictional Rarotonga is a part of Kosrae in the Micronesian
federation.

Many of the science fiction elements are borrowed from the works
of Robert A. Heinlein. No copyright infringement was intended. I
see it rather as an act of homage to one of the grandmasters in
the genre -- and considering his great impact on millions of
readers, it's not unlikely that a future city on the moon may be
called 'Luna City' and its newspaper (or equivalent) 'The Daily
Lunatic', for example.

English is not my native tongue and I have probably made several
silly spelling and grammatical errors. Please, tell me if you
find any errors that upset you.

The author does not necessarily condone or endorse all the
actions of his characters (and wholeheartedly disagrees with some
of them). However, my characters tend to have a mind of their own
and they often surprise me. Naturally, this story occurs in a
world without sexually transmitted diseases and other ugly facts
of 'the real world'. I tend to agree with Karin's opinion that
Ingrid's rash adventure is sheer madness -- in 'real life' the
outcome would be far more likely to be a tragic one.

In other words, this is a fantasy! Don't try to realize it!

Chapter breakdown:

Here follows a list of the chapters with story codes, as Mrs.
Grundy would set them. Codes within [brackets] imply that the
corresponding event is important for the story but it is not
described in any detail.

A note on special characters:
Swedish contains three extra vowels that don't fit into 7-bit
ASCII. They are coded in a variety of ways, depending on the
operating system. In this story they are used in a few words
(mostly place names) that may appear strange if your computer
uses a different encoding compared with mine. The troublesome
characters are (with Unicode, Latin-1 character codes in hex):

 (A with a ring, 00C5), (a with a ring, 00E5)
(A with two dots, 00C4), (a with two dots, 00E4)
(O with two dots, 00D6), (o with two dots, 00F6)

Here follows some hints on pronunciation for the brave souls who
want to speak the names:

is usually pronounced like o in 'long', but sometimes short like
in 'clock'.
is pronounced somewhat like ai in 'air' but it can also be
short.
is usually pronounced like u in 'church'
