My best friend Mary Lou Koci phoned me early Sunday evening
at the end of our first week at Darwin High. I'm Chrissy Boyd.
Mary Lou and I are both 14 year old blondes, and
Darwin is one of the two high schools in our city, Central being
the other.Mary Lou was really excited. She said she had some
absolutely unbelievable gossip to tell me, so naturally with the
consent of our parents we set up a sleepover at my place. When
she got here, we showered together, shampooed each other's hair,
then we dried off and put our jammies on, then while I painted
her toenails Mary Lou began to talk.
"There is some really weird stuff going on at Central! My
brother was at the Central game on Friday, and he swears the
Central cheerleaders were stark naked! He says they were bouncing
all over, and he about died when they did the human pyramid!"

"No, it's true.He started talking with one of the Central
players after the game, and the boy said that a whole bunch of
guys and girls are going naked around the school!"
"The teachers are letting them?"
"They made them do it at first! They took one girl from each
class on Monday and made
her strip naked and go to class all week like that. All the guys

"No way!!"
"And there's more. This one girl, Karen, got to like it so

grope us? No way I could do that!"
"Well," she said, "I don't think there is any program like
that at Darwin.But I heard on the news yesterday something about
a new federal law so maybe it could affect us."
"I just couldn't strip in front of everybody." I said.I am a
modest girl."I would be absolutely mortified if I had to do
that."
Plus there was a special reason I could not do it, and his
name was John Narveson.
He's a freshman like me, and I've had a big crush on him since
way last year.Last April when I had my 14th birthday pary I made
sure he was invited.My parents wisely remained upstairs when we
all went into the basement to play Five Minutes of Glory. I chose
John, of course, and we went into the closet and closed the door
while someone outside timed us.
The rule is, the guy can put his hands anywhere he wants on the
girl, but only outside her
clothes. But John was a real gentleman. The only naughty part he
touched was my butt and that was only to bring us together so he
could kiss me. So we kissed and kissed and by about three minutes
I was ready to have his hands on me anywhere, over or even under
my clothes! But all we did was kiss.It was really dreamy. He's
like almost a hunk, he is a
big swimmer and you can see his shoulders are starting to get
broad and he is going to be
really fine in a couple of years, plus he has this really narrow
butt that I just love to look at walking behind him in school.But
there is sort of a problem. He is always polite to me and
to everyone for that matter, but I'm not so sure he is really
interested in me, or in any girl right now. Of course he's not
like, gay.No, it's just that if you watch him about 99% of his
talking time is with guys, mainly about sports. It's like girls
are not too important to him right now.And I don't know what to
do to get him to like me!
Of course Mary Lou had to give me a down 'n dirty account of
what happened to her in the closet with Jared Fitzwillow, another
good looking freshman known for his quick wit.
Jared apparently whispered to her that he was an undercover
school narc and that he had to search her for illicit drugs.She
had to tell him where the "drugs were hidden" on her body and
them submit to an intensive search. She never did tell me exactly
where he searched, but he looked very happy and she was very
red-faced when they exited after five minutes.
So it's because of John that I could never agree to be naked
in school. I would just die
if he ever saw me. What would he think of me? He'd probably think
I was some kind of slut and never would talk to me again.He's in
all my classes, too. If other guys were groping me he would see
that.
Of course when Mary Lou heard how I felt she said she felt
the same way.But I wonder.
Just before we went to bed, she said, "Chrissy, if it really
is the law we would have
to do it, wouldn't we? And even if we felt bad about it, people
couldn't blame us, 'cause we had no choice, right?"
I told her I did not think they would choose us because we
were so young. I said the boys would much prefer to see Juniors
and Seniors as they would be better developed.
Then we fell asleep, and I dreamed that Mary Lou and I were naked
in the hall at Darwin High, but it did not matter because the
hall was deserted.Then Mary Lou turned to me and said urgently
"John is coming!"
