Caine Journals 1969 Vietnam

173rd Airborne Brigade with 4th Infantry almost over run by. 174th NVA
Regiment. Dak To, Hill 875, Kontum Province, Vietnam


In Vietnam, two years past now, full scale wars: the battle for Hill 875
began its third day; It's now 0100 Hours and 21 November 1967. I am so
pleased I have started my second tour. I feel my palms, the tremor in my
arms, adrenaline rushes, I need this threat, struggle, whatever its named
to keep me safe and feed my honor. I need life to make my death.

In '67, At 0620 Hours, then First Lieut., and Bravo Company XO, Jimmy
Albert Caine IV humped the grunts up the hill after Bravo Company
Commander, Capt. John R. Ashland, West Point 1962, who led the assault, was
seriously burned by friendly fire

On that assault, that morning, by 1200 Hours, there would be 46 CASUALTIES
(23 KIA) including the commander of Second Platoon, Lieut. Mark Weygand.
Mr. Weygand, West Point Star man, who had been in-country four months, and
was 23 years old. Awarded posthumously his second Bronze Star for valor, he
was survived by his wife, and twin boys, 2 months old. Children he never
met. Mr. Weygand had graduated 3rd in his class with the rank of Cadet
Captain.

I am Jimmy Caine, and I graduated also with honors from that same Hudson
view of the Point in 1964. I spent the two years following at Oxford as a
Rhodes scholar. I am now 25. Captain Weygand made my Plebe summer hell. I
remember how he liked to find the scum of the old grads as he called us,
and make our transformation less than perfect. I salute his memory, and
remember him now, as I face what he did, and wonder if that is our fate to
die on the same hill for the same jungle, but of course now worn down to
melted earth. It is more than a coincidence.


CAINE FATHER OF ABEL



Notes on Caine by The Gadfly: (Peter Jackson Campbell)

Lieut. (Soon to be Captain) Caine was the illegitimate father of
eight-year-old boy, Antonio Joseph Corvino (The future serial murderer, the
Man Called Abel). He with his half-sister, Maria, AKA, Lilith is the mask
of evil in this nasty carnival. I don't know why that old crone,
soothsayer, Madam S. insists on calling this place that. Sometimes, it
resembles Hell, hardly or at best an ironic theater of the absurd.

Father and son (Caine and Abel) would never meet. Abel chose the name Abel
for revenge and renamed his sister, or she him, in a like manner.

Captain Caine, who would become Lieut. Col. Caine would on 30 April 1975
die in Vietnam. Never believe the Gadfly when he plays here. As a
Journalist I always tell the truth, but in my literary forms, I am always
the mutating metamorphic bug. Actually, why do I continue the lie? I have
never been a bug, except a long time ago. 100 million years ago I was eaten
by some spiny critter. Ugh.

Getting back to it, eventually Caine, awarded two Congressional Medals of
Honor (1972 and 1978), the DSC, three times, and five Silver Stars, would
lead Malachi and the   police to that terrible house where the where 37
murders took place, and poor Sheila, you will meet her later will accept
responsibility for more than her mercy killing of her sister. Sorocide
makes such good press. Don't know why I never thought of it before.

Named a hero, Was Caine? Was Sheila the tragic victim or equally culpable.
More will follow. What was Caine's crime? What was Sheila? Who is Laurie
Fallon? Why does she survive? What is the significance of TxM6?

Paternity? Maternity? Sisterhood? Such banal but necessary words. Yes,
