This will be a repost of an existing story for the "Classics" section of the 
Rom Fest.  I will code each chapter as I send it (14 chapters in all).  This 
e-mail contains the Author's Notes on the story:





HARD PROMISE

Even after all the fan mail and accolades that have been sent my way for my 
more popular long story, "Playing the Game", I still find that "Hard 
Promise", my first serious attempt at a longer tale, holds a special place 
in my heart.

The original intent for the story that was to become "Hard Promise" was 
going to be your average, everyday slut wife story.  I decided to go back to 
their high-school days as background, before I got to the meaty stuff.  
Somewhere along the way, the background became the story, and the original 
premise of a cheating wife and cuckolded husband never materialized.  
Instead, the story of how they got together, the trials of their early 
romance, and the consequences of their actions and the paths taken by some 
of their friends took over the story, making it, to my mind, a much more 
compelling read than what was originally intended.

In fact, about half-way through the writing of the story, I got good and 
stuck.  The characters of Ray, Micki, and Melissa took on lives of their 
own, and nothing I could do or say to them was going to get me back in 
charge.  I was astounded at their audacity, and stumped at how I was going 
to continue the story without their cooperation.

In the meantime, I had struck up an e-mail friendship with Empath, a fellow 
author on ASS*.  I complained to him about the direction this story had 
suddenly taken, and used his sympathetic presence as a sounding board for 
ways out of my predicament. (There is an exerpt of our discussion on my 
website at http://www.asstr-mirror.org/files/Authors/ReverendCottonMather/www/sermons.htm, for those 
of you who are pathologically curious.)  With a pat on the back, as well as 
a much-deserved kick in the pants, he got me thinking in new directions 
about the story, and all of a sudden, the ending practically wrote itself.

Of course, once the ending was achieved, a rewrite of the first chapter was 
in order, but that's all part of the parenting process with these 
characters.  I didn't mind, especially since I could now post my first story 
with an "unusual" ending, which has since become a hallmark of my better 
stories (in particular, "Playing the Game" and "The Years Like Pearls on 
Velvet").

By the way: there is an addendum to the story, which I have sent out to 
dozens of readers who have requested it, that explains the ending with a 
brief continuation of the story.  All the clues are there, but if you like 
to have it spelled out for you, or you want to see how I envisioned the 
conclusion, drop me a line.  I'm willing to share.
