Souvie's O's - May 12, 2001

Well, this should be my last "O's" post for at least a
month. School is almost out and it's time for some R'n'R.
<g> Since this will be the last one for a bit, I'm
spotlighting more than my usual five stories. Also, I was
toying with the idea of a rating system, and I think I've
found something I like. Since I'm only spotlighting
stories that have appealed to me in one way or another, you
won't find me giving any story a sucky rating. What will I
base this vaulted rating on? Well, spelling, grammar and
punctuation for one. How well-written the sex is. And
lastly, I guess just how much I enjoyed it and found it
entertaining and thought-provoking. Highest "O" is a 5. You
won't see any stories in here getting a 0 - I wouldn't be
spotlighting/reviewing them if I thought they were crap. 
My goal is not to degrade anyone, stroke anyone's ego, or
set myself up to be flamed. If anyone doesn't like the idea
of a "ratings" system, I would ask them to take it up with
me in private please.

"Bio-Mates" series

What is the Bio-Mates series? lol Where to begin. Stasya
says it best in the story "Biolab 13 - Introduction":

It started in a classroom.

A student needing a subject for her doctoral project. 

"Bioengineering Animals - Extrapolating the future" By:
Liaya Stevens. 

"This student plans to look at what has happened in this
field, the current state of knowledge and project that rate
of growth into the future to show that some projects now
considered impossible or on the fringes the of the science
will be not only be possible but become routine in the near
future.

"One such project is the possibility of modifying some
species with human genes to produce a viable and self-
sustaining sub species capable of human speech. Such
animals would, this student feels, give us an insight into
some aspects of animal-human interactions and animal
interactions with the environment that could lead to a
better understanding of the impact of proposed changes to
ecosystems as well as bring a deeper understanding to more
typical animal-human interactions."

Man and animals, hyper-intelligent animals, working
together in a partnership. The stories tell a story
together, but could also stand on their own quite nicely. 
Yes, they are considered zoosexuality fiction, but for me,
that doesn't lessen the story in any way. Stasya handles
the intimacy nicely, and if taken out, the stories would
still be well worth reading.

If you're looking for a series to get caught up in, I
highly recommend this one.

Oh factor - 4 1/2 (mainly because I'm waiting,
impatiently, for Stasya to post another chapter)

"Outrage"

This is an erotic poem with religious overtones. Anyone
who is a super devout Christian probably won't like it. Of
course, anyone like that probably won't be frequenting
ASSM, so no problem there. <g>

The poem puts images in your mind that are not quickly
dismissed. If there are any aspiring poets out there, read
and learn.

"First Impressions" (ScFi no sex)

New to the ASS* writing community, Gary recently moved
from reader to writer. And it looks like I'm going to be
glad that he did. If the rest of his stories are as
entertaining as this one, we're going to be the lucky ones.

What's the story about? Well, any Pern readers out there? 
Yep, fire lizards. Twins. What's a single dad to do?
Especially thinking ahead to the time when they're ready to
mate. You fill in the blanks.

Even though I've never read any of the Pern novels, I'd
heard enough about them from my brothers to understand
Gary's story. It's not a necessity that you be familiar
with them before you read his story, but it couldn't hurt.

I wasn't going to include this story, except for the fact
that the author had the <*> symbol when she posted the
story. Since Celeste isn't around anymore, I decided to
give it a read. I'm glad I did.

White Rose gives us a truly magical setting right from the
beginning. I felt like I'd been transported inside a fairy
tale. Take a peek:

The world took a breath. She felt his presence a moment
before she heard the footsteps coming from the trees. She
forced herself to wait, to remain where she was, eyes
closed, as he approached. The need to see, to know, what
he would be this night, what face and body he would wear,
it was strong, so strong. But she held herself in check,
pausing a moment longer, and only then allowing her lids to
slowly drift open to cast her gaze upon him as he knelt at
the ledge of the pond in front of her, gazing upon her with
the same curious knowing she knew was reflected in her own
gaze.

Sure as heck makes me want to know what he looks like! <g>
The story just keeps getting better, and the sex is well-
written and spark-filled - very hot and erotic.

Alexis is another relatively new author to the ASS*
community. I was pointed to her stories by Shon, and
thanked him profusely. <g>

I would consider this story to be folklore. Do you
remember reading as a child the stories that went like, "How
the Elephant Got His Trunk"? Keep that in mind.

This story deals with the raven. I say anything more and
I risk giving the story away. This is a tale told with
just the right blend of mystery and eroticism. Once Alexis
finds her niche, watch out!

For those looking to shiver and tremble (and I don't just
mean from the sex scenes!), this is a must read.

Oh factor - 4 1/2 (because I think Alexis could have 
extended the sex scenes)

"Penis Envoy" (FF, MF, FD, MC, SF, Humor)

Parody. This was the first thing that sprung to mind when
I started reading Sara's story. Only it's more than that. 
It's damn hilarious.

We have a spaceship, so there's definitely the science
fiction element. We have crew names like Captain Ereck
Vasdeferens, and his morale officer (and snuggle buddy)
Tess Dosterohn. lol And wait till you meet the rest of his
crew.

Their mission? A scrapship (the Cuckold) is having air
problems. It's Vasdeferens and his crew to the rescue!

Read it and laugh. And where's the sex you ask? Well:

Once they approached the orgy in progress, the intrepid
rescue party found that they couldn't break the sexual
unions apart. The best they got was the strokes of fingers
and tongues and genitals from the obsessed crew as they
were pushed en masse down the passageway to the docking
station and onto the shuttle.

And there's more, trust me.

"I Married a Sex Slave" (MF, BDSM, cons)

He's back! sfmaster has rejoined the world of the writing,
and I think this story proves he hasn't lost anything in
his absence.

Connie and Sam have been married for two years when Connie
confesses to Sam. Oh, confesses what? Psssst . . . look at
the title of the story. That should clue you in.

Connie confesses all to her husband. It would have been
easy for sfmaster to have made the husband immediately gung-
ho about the idea, take on the role of Master and the
couple live happily ever after. Thankfully, sfmaster
handles the situation differently. Sam's reaction is
believable, the events that subsequently unfold completely
realistic (at least to me they were). I'd like to see a
follow up to this story - perhaps the couple a few years
down the line.

O factor - 4 (for a couple of punctuation errors)

Oh geeze, where to begin. I read this story and
immediately wanted to give up writing. This story is
*that* good. Makes me think that nothing I ever write
could ever come close to being on the same level with this
story.

It's about many things - a woman's imperfections, trying
to exist in a passionless marriage, dealing with fantasies.
Yet it's much more:

The next thing isn't a single thing. It is two, more than
two, some number, something kaleidoscopic. There is no
order that she can recall later. She smells him again,
with her cheek feels a muscle move in his chest, feels
herself pull him closer, for the first time feels his penis
as a hard shape against her belly. She holds her breath
again, memorizes the outline of his cock on her body. 

She can feel herself growing wetter, hotter. The feel of
wetness seeping is obvious now, so beautiful a sensation,
so perfect a mark of longing if he would touch her there. 
He kisses her hair again and inhales her. She can feel his
breath. His penis. His face. A hand at her chin, lifting
her face. He is erect against her. They begin a kiss.

The story is about infidelity - the threat of it, the
temptation of it, the reality of it. I guess my complaint
would be that if I coded the story, I would have added
"cheat." <shrug> I guess that with the title you probably
don't need it.

"One Night at the Stay-N-Save" (X-Files, MF)

I was introduced to the stories of Leyla Harrison via
another newsgroup that I frequent. She wrote X-Files
stories, and she wrote them well. I list no e-mail address
because Ms. Harrison has passed away. I only wish I had
found her stories while she was alive so that I could have
let her know how much I enjoyed them.

This story is smut with a captial "S." And it's very
detailed, very good sex. Basically, Scully keeps having
strange dreams about what she thinks are Mulder's hands
doing very interesting things to her. She discovers that
the reality is better than the dream while they're at a
roadside motel. Hell, I liked both! Dream, or reality:

She was aware of taking in a sharp gasp of breath as the
fingers smoothed over the undersides of her breasts. Oh,
God, the sensation of being touched like this was almost
unbearable.

The hands moved up, fingers tracing circles around her
nipples but not quite touching them. 

Scully knew that she was being driven crazy. Very, very
slowly.

She opened her eyes, wanting to see the face attached to
the body with these amazing hands.

And then it was gone.


If you're looking for a story with a more well-defined
plot that's just as excellently written as this one, check
out "34 Hours," also on her website. It held me from the
first paragraph and didn't let go until the final word. 
That good.
