At that time I'll announce my selection of the Celestial Best New Christmas Story. To be eligible, you have to post a Christmas story that involves sex and that is either new or substantively revised during the year 2000. If you wish, you can just post the story on a.s.s.m.; but if you want to be sure I see it, you should email me a copy as well. For purposes of this Celestial Christmas Contest, both Christmas and sex will be loosely defined. Like the Supreme Court justices, I'll be able to recognize it when I see it. The deadline will be the exact time of the winter solstice. My husband's Swimsuit Calendar tells me that will be on December 21, which is also the day that Hanukkah begins. So if you wish, you can write about Hanukkah instead of Christmas. In the December 23 issue, I'll also post my cumulative list of the Top 25 Christmas Sex Stories, along with reviews of all the Christmas stories that I have ever reviewed. Good luck. Second note: One of my readers suggested that I try to help out my readers by listing in each issue just a few stories that I consider to be "the best of the lot." I'm going to try that, but please don't let this degenerate into thinking that there's something "weak" or "bad" about stories that I don't mention in this very brief list. This week's best bets -- the ones I urge you not to miss -- would be "A Walk on the Wild Side" and "The Missing Eighteen Minutes." "How to Write an Erotic Story" would also be well worth your time. THIS WEEK'S JOKE: A gentleman had made several attempts to get into the men's restroom, but found it to be occupied. A lady noticed his misery: he was walking funny, rocking from side to side and taking small steps with a look of pain and anxiety on his face. "Sir," she said at last, "the ladies restroom is unoccupied. You may use it if you promise not to touch any of the buttons on the wall in the stall." About to pop, the man would have promised anything, and so he agreed to her terms. The relief was pure joy; and as he sat there, savoring his newfound comfort, he noticed the buttons he had promised not to touch. There were three white buttons labeled "WW", "WA", and "PP", plus one red button labeled "ATR". Who would really know if he touched them? He couldn't just sit there and resist a challenge like this, and so he pushed the "WW" button. Warm water was sprayed gently upon his bottom. Such a gratifying feeling came over him. The men's restroom didn't have nice things like this. Anticipating even greater pleasure, he pressed the "WA" button. Warm air replaced the warm water, wafting and swirling, gently drying his underside. He knew what he was going to do when the warm air stopped, and without hesitation he pressed the "PP" button. A large powder puff caressed his bottom, adding a fragrant scent of spring flowers to his delightful delectation. The ladies room was far more than a restroom; it was a pleasure palace! He could hardly wait for the powder puff to finish. When it did, he pushed what he knew was going to be the ultimate joy: the ATR button. He knew he was in the hospital as soon as he opened his eyes. A nurse was staring down at him with a smirk on her face. "What happened?" he asked. "How did I get here? The last thing I remember, I was in the ladies restroom!" "You pushed one too many buttons," replied the nurse, as her smirk expanded to a grin. "That last button marked 'ATR' is an Automatic Tampon Remover. Your penis is under your pillow." ===================== Celestial Reviews Index: ===================== "A Walk on the Wild Side" by Ann Douglas (sex with porn star) 10, 10, 10 http://www.asstr-mirror.org/files/Authors/Ann_Douglas/www/walk.htm "Homecoming" by Alfred E. First Stormy conducts a really good interview, and then she has hot sex with Crystal and one of her leading studs. This sort of story could be really dumb, but Ann carries it off very nicely. In real life, it's unlikely that a woman will rise to the top of the film industry or to the pinnacle of the business world by being a porn star. It's much more likely that the woman would become a drug addict or contract a sexual disease. But you've got to have a dream' otherwise, how you gonna have a dream come true? However, there's a real-life woman who sounds an awful lot like Crystal in this story. I would be absolutely amazed if the author did not base this story at least partly on this woman's life. The woman's name is Candida Royalle. I know about her because (1) I read about her in the legitimate cyberpress recently and (2) years ago I watched and enjoyed one of the movies she produced. The article can be found at http://www.winmagazine.org/issues/issue20/win20b.htm. It describes a woman who used to be a porn star and who subsequently went into making porn movies "with sex-positive messages." The movie that I watched was entitled (I think) "Femme." My husband was interested in porn videos at the time, and we watched several of them together. Most of them were frankly stereotypical and exploitive of women -- but still good turn-ons. The major exception was a film called "Femme," which expressed the idea that it was good for women to be sexy and to be treated erotically by men and by other women. I loved it. I suspect we conceived a really beautiful daughter while that movie ran in the background. I assure you that I get no kickbacks for my comments from either Win Magazine or Candida Royalle, who has a web site at http://db.phenet.com/catalog/femme/home.html. We don't watch many adult videos anymore. Nowadays we get high on each other. My husband fulfills his fantasies by reading the stories to which I give good ratings and by serving as a recipient for my urges. We have gradually thrown away or destroyed many of the videos we used to own, but writing this review has brought back memories of the innocent days when we used to watch porn flicks and do things with whip cream in bed. My favorite porn star is Tori Wells. My husband says I remind him of her. I'm pretty sure it's something I do, not the way I look -- although I can see a vague resemblance. I have no favorite male porn star. Those guys are weird. They all pale in comparison to my husband and to the heroes of many of the stories I review. As an aside, I might mention that I popped one of the porn characters from the present story into my search engine. Let it be known that "Queen Imadildo" led me to a hit on the Dairy Queen home page. Go figure. Ratings for "A Walk on the Wild Side" Athena (technical quality): 10 Venus (plot & character): 10 Celeste (appeal to reviewer): 10 "Homecoming" by Alfred E (alfrede65@hotmail.com). http://assm.asstr-mirror.org/Year2000/27648 As the title line says, this is not about a prom or the school homecoming. The narrator goes home to the old neighborhood and spends some time with his friend John and John's girlfriend. The three have a good time together; but when they go to John's place they find that narrator can't stay there because his parents are home. So he has to stay with John's girlfriend Amanda. And so, a new relationship surprisingly develops. This is not a slut story. Just a nice little tale about the way friendships sometimes shift. Ratings for "Homecoming" Athena (technical quality): 9 Venus (plot & character): 9.5 Celeste (appeal to reviewer): 9.5 "The Seduction of Lisa" by George Gordon (cgregor@libnet.com). What can you expect from a story in which the orthodox Jewish narrator plainly states that his favorite fantasy is having written the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto and performing it at Carnegie Hall? Well, in this case, quite a bit. The narrator is an orthodox Jewish graduate student who has developed an interest in a young lady (who plays the viola) with an unremarkable rear end, which nonetheless moves delightfully and unselfconsciously, and who keeps a diaphragm case right next to the Bausch & Lomb in the medicine cabinet and a small towel under the bed. It takes him three dates even to get to first bass. That's the only viola joke I know, except for the one about the G-string. Some of the sex is subtle -- e.g., they quote Yeats and Orlando Furioso while making love, they converse in ottava rima, and they probably would not even understand my great joke about first bass. In short, they relived high school the way it ought to have been. They rut freely without falling into a rut. Eventually they realize that their sex life is based on shallow things like physical stimulation and intellectual repartee, and so they drift apart. But physical stimulation and intellectual repartee can be a good place to seek vicarious sex on a quiet winter's afternoon. Ratings for "The Seduction of Lisa" Athena (technical quality): 10 Venus (plot & character): 10 Celeste (appeal to reviewer): 10 "The Nine-Minute Ritual" by Desdmona (Desdmona22@aol.com). http://www.asstr-mirror.org/files/Authors/Desdmona/www/ I went to this story after I realized I had already reviewed DrSpin's story, as I mentioned above. At the time, this was the second-oldest story in my in-basket. This is one of those stories about the real joys of married life -- waking up with your lover next to you with a spontaneous urge to do something about it even before you're fully awake. Even within the short space of this very short story, the author manages to insert some surprising but very nice twists. Ratings for "The Nine-Minute Ritual" Athena (technical quality): 9 Venus (plot & character): 10 Celeste (appeal to reviewer): 10 "Nuttin'" (With apologies to Abbot and Costello)" by Frank McCoy (humor) 10, 8, 8 http://assm.asstr-mirror.org/Year2000/27579 This is a parody of an Abbot and Costello comedy routine. Its main component is an elaboration on a pun that connects doing nothing (pronounced like nuttin') with doing something with the male gonads that are shaped like nuts. The humor is not as sophisticated as that in the preceding story, but it's still pretty cute. Ratings for "Nuttin' Athena (technical quality): 10 Venus (plot & character): 8 Celeste (appeal to reviewer): 8 "Two Years" by Paula Bomer (Nerve Magazine). http://www.nerve.com/Fiction/Bomer/twoYears/ One of my readers suggested to me that I ought to take a look at the professionally published stories on the Internet and to see how these compare to the free material on a.s.s.m. To save me the trouble of digging them up myself, he even sent me some examples of stories from several magazines. This one's from Nerve Magazine. I don't know how the Nerve people date their stuff, but this one was copyright 2000 and was current when I visited the site on December 7. It's the story of a hot love gone cold. Curt was a genius at eating pussy, and Sonia grew to rely on this, like an addiction, even though Curt was in most ways bad for her. She didn't seem to be much good for him either. Actually, both of them were pretty much wimps. As the title suggests, the affair lasted about two years and then petered out. The story had a ring of authenticity to it -- but very depressing authenticity. I don't especially like reading stories that make me sad, unless they have some redeeming value. I guess maybe there's redeeming value in understanding the angst of shallow people. Ratings for "Two Years" Athena (technical quality): 10 Venus (plot & character): 9 Celeste (appeal to reviewer): 7 "Hard Copy" by Steve Brykman (Nerve Magazine). http://www.nerve.com/fiction/brykman/hardcopy/ After the second half of my venture into Nerve Magazine, I am prepared to state my tentative conclusion. The stories in this magazine appear to be of high grammatical and stylistic quality. They also appear to be of high quality as popular fiction. However, the titillation factor seems to be lower than what I am used to in a.s.s.m. stories. In addition, I hasten to point out that there are numerous a.s.s.m. stories that are every bit as good as what I found in these two Nerve stories. This one really is quite creative. It's about a man who develops a sexual relationship with his photocopy machine. Problems seem imminent when he cums in the embrace of the machine, and the jism causes mechanical malfunctions. However, the repairman naively attributes the problems to the misuse of liquid paper. Actually, the story is not all that farfetched. People have been photocopying their asses and other assets for years. In addition, interactions with both photocopiers often depend on alcohol of one sort or another, proper toning, exposure, timing, and lubrication. Nor can the importance of a snug fit be denied. In this story, the protagonist's major problem seemed to be his position when he engaged the machine, which enabled the Sanyo to puff erratically up his anus, causing him to orgasm. You have to watch out for things like that. I really enjoyed this story. Now when I hear the administrators making reference to "the fucking copier" at school, I'll know what they're talking about. Ratings for "Hard Copy" Athena (technical quality): 10 Venus (plot & character): 10 Celeste (appeal to reviewer): 10 "The Missing Eighteen Minutes" by Annie Sprinkle (Clean Sheets Magazine). My next journey took me to Clean Sheets, where my correspondent referred me to this delightful story, which will appeal especially to history buffs, if you'll pardon the expression. This story attempts to tell what happened during the eighteen minutes of White House tapes that Rosemary Woods "accidentally" erased shortly before President Ford pardoned former President Nixon. I'm sure Al Gore will try to claim responsibility for this clever piece of writing, but I see Tipper's supple hand at work. We have grown so used to Bill Clinton sex jokes that we have tended to forget that Dick Nixon was one of the greatest targets of political sex jokes of all time: Q. Why did President Nixon engage in oral sex so often? A. Because he wanted to get it down Pat. {Note: Patricia Nixon was the name of Nixon's wife. Checkers was his dog in a previous life.} Clean sheets using a frames format, and so you have to go to the general address (http://www.cleansheets.com/frameset.html) and then follow the archives to November 1, 2000, to find this gem. Ratings for "The Missing Eighteen Minutes" Athena (technical quality): 10 Venus (plot & character): 10 Celeste (appeal to reviewer): 10 "How to Write an Erotic Story" by Bill Noble (Scarlet Letters Magazine) http://www.scarletletters.com/current/fiction.html This story is from an online magazine called Scarlet Letters. In spite of what the title says and in spite of the fact that if you imitate this author's style you'll wind up writing very good erotic stories, this is not an instructional essay. Rather, it's a story about a guy writing a story about a girl teasing a guy but not letting him come, while his lover teases him but doesn't let him come until she decides to let him come. In other words, it's one of those stories within a story that I have tried to convert to a story within my review. It's really a very creative and sexy story. Ratings for "How to Write an Erotic Story" Athena (technical quality): 10 Venus (plot & character): 10 Celeste (appeal to reviewer): 10 "RedDress" by bweier (beedub@spamout.biosys.net). http://assm.asstr-mirror.org/Year2000/27581 I'm giving this one slightly low ratings, mostly because I couldn't get a clear picture of exactly what happens during it. Oh, I know it includes bondage, but I don't understand why the events described in this story would be all that sexually gratifying. My confusion arises, I think, either from the fact that I need a lot more inside information about the bdsm scene in order to pick up the silent signals or from the fact that the author has been a little too brief in his descriptions. The author is new and wants feedback. Maybe some of you who are more into the bdsm literature will drop him a line. Ratings for "RedDress" Athena (technical quality): 10 Venus (plot & character): 7 Celeste (appeal to reviewer): 7 "My Sister, Mary" by Redman (redman@seductive.com). http://www.asstr-mirror.org/files/Authors/Redman/My_Sister_Mary.txt Rarely does a new writer appear on the scene and write such a wide variety of good stories. Of course, Redman has been around long enough that it's no longer proper to call him new. But it's still true that he writes good stories in a large variety of sub-genres. Tommy and his sister, Mary, develop an infatuation with a sexy bisexual woman named Sheila. Pretty soon Tommy sees Sheila for the shallow twit that she is and is willing to let her go, but Mary has developed a dependent relationship with Sheila. Sheila brings Tommy into her relationship with Mary in such a way as to hurt the brother and sister. However, in the end Tommy and Mary pull their act together very nicely, I thought. This was not all that pleasant a story, but I "liked" it in the sense that it really did supply a valid insight into human life. Lots of incest stories are the insipid and immature rants of people who think they are something special just because they have fantasized about screwing a sibling. This story gives us a more sensitive and ambivalent insight into a complex relationship. Ratings for "My Sister, Mary" Athena (technical quality): 10 Venus (plot & character): 10 Celeste (appeal to reviewer): 10 ===================== Guest Reviews: ===================== "S'Nill on the Rooftop" by Redman (redman@seductive.com). Guest review by Dave Myers. http://www.asstr-mirror.org/files/Authors/Redman/S'Nill_on_the_Rooftop.txt The prose is fairly poetic, a tribute to the elegance that the author wishes to imbue upon his female lead character. Oh, did I forget to say "furry elegance"? As a casual reader (not a die hard enthusiast) of science fiction/furry stories, it's nice to find one that isn't so caught up in itself. Rather than try to over-explain the minute details of the world that S'Nill inhabits, the story reads like any other straight encounter-type scene. The only difference is the poetics, and the unusual psychology of the main character and her world. S'Nill comes off as a bit of a streetwalker, and it's only at the very end of the story that an even more sinister undertone is revealed, making the plot seem very charged in retrospect. The only thing I don't like too much about the ending is that it appears to set up a sequel almost too perfectly. And while a sequel could fly, this story doesn't seem to be the right way to set the stage for a full fledged series. The dark tone and overall creepiness of the story should give a tingle to most readers, even if the sex doesn't. Although the story is lush in words, one can argue whether the sex is really only there as a release from the fearful timbre of the set-up. Different readers will have to judge for themselves whether the sex was the end to the means or vice versa. No Rating {Because the author doesn't like to give numerical ratings} "Waking Annie" by Redman (redman@seductive.com). Guest Review by BillyG (hayden@mindless.com) http://www.asstr-mirror.org/files/Authors/Redman/Waking%20Annie.txt "Waking Annie" is less a story and more a day-tight clip -- a morning in the life of Annie and Richard. Some may remember them from the story "One Again" by the same author, Redman. Richard's narrative tells of his delight with his wife of twenty years, of waking with her, of gradually sliding into an erotic connection. Their sex -- Annie and Richard, is not the highly- charged, mindless, headlong free fall of erotic conquest and surrender. Rather it is the celebration of a sweet and comfortable union that perhaps is best realized after years of soul-mate partnership. I experienced an odd sort of uncertain voyeurism reading this short bit. Perhaps it was its brevity, or not really getting to know them. It was a little like reading a few pages torn from a diary. Ratings for "Waking Annie" Athena (technical quality): 10 Venus (plot & character): 8.5 (just too little) BillyG (appeal to reviewer): 8 "Brad's Birthday Surprise" by Unknown Author. Guest review by Admiral Cartwright {Someone sent me this story several months ago. I must have lost the review. I have a copy of the story, but it has no author's name attached to it. Admiral Cartwright recently reminded me that he had written the review, but neither he nor I could find the original story. I found part of it posted under a different title in DejaNews by using the names of the main characters as search words. If anyone knows anything about the authorship or location of this story, I'd like to have the information. Here is the Admiral's review:} As I was reading this story, I was given the distinct impression that the author had recently celebrated a birthday which was less than stellar, and decided to fantasize a new one. Not a bad fantasy, either. Make no mistake, this is a stroke story with little explanation for the proponents' actions, nor for the addition of the nubile, 21-year-old full-racked blonde neighbor. For husband and wife to settle into a six-year-long sexual routine, then suddenly break out the gamut from a no-way-is-this-accidental lotion- rubbing sequence to a home-made lesbian video, the feeling that someone had just awakened from a major wet dream to sit down and write this story refused to leave me. I also felt in spots as if the author was making this up as it went along its merry, multiple-orgasmed-for-all-involved way. So, while spelling and punctuation are near-perfect, the 'I need to throw something else in here' feel of the story will affect the technical rating. Brilliant erotic fiction this is not, nor is it meant to be, and I do take that into consideration. If, however, your goal is to keep busy the hand not currently occupied by the mouse, this story will serve adequately. Ratings for 'Brad's Birthday Surprise': Athena (Technical Merit): 8 Venus (Plot & Character): 6.5 Admiral (Appeal to Reviewer): 7 "Gang Rave" by Monocle (Monocle_o@hotmail.com). Guest review by Dave Myers. http://x76.deja.com/getdoc.xp?AN=702561469 It's not clear if the title was supposed to suggest a clever closeness to "gang rape." The story is very appropriately marked "nc?" because it's not entirely clear whether the sex starts with much consent or not. The author makes pretty clear that, by the end of the night, the main character is a willing participant. The bulk of the story is tied up in getting us to that point, you might say. It's an interesting ambivalence about the situation that marks the story. On this question of willingness, the story dwells on the main character's mental state quite a bit. Unfortunately, this dwelling turns out to the story's detriment, because by half the way through this story I had the distinct impression that the author wanted us to feel that the main character was so overcome with the feelings around her that she just finally settled into it. And I continued to get that feeling for a large section of the story because the author repeated phrases very similar to this, and repeated it and repeated it. There's nothing wrong with the plot scheme, which involves getting an unsuspecting club girl (but not a total ingenue) into an orgy situation where she's a little reluctant at first. But sensing some doubt about why the girl decides to fully submit herself to the surroundings, I guess the author just fell back on some old faithfuls of smut writing, rather than come up with new ones. It takes a good long time for the girl to get into the groove, and the obligatory rave-drug part of it hardly enters the equation, as written, so don't look there for explanation. Instead, she's won over little by little (by little). And it goes on for pages, in a state of apparently perpetual orgasm or near-orgasm. It's written skillfully, and has some perky moments, but the girl is riding the wave so long that I could not very much believe it anymore. Nothing wrong with a story that's an excuse for one big orgy scene, but it could have been detailed more tightly, or else filled with a more realistic tension governing her reluctance. There is one truly rough spot, near the end, where the author prolongs the at-or-near-orgasm moment even further by the use of a sort of dazed stream of consciousness set of observations strung together. I felt this was a bit of a misjudgment in light of how much action it was meant to sustain from beforehand, but it did allow for a nice "morning after" ending to follow afterward. Perhaps if the orgy scene were broken in half by a slight bump in the plot or some dialogue, or a break of some sort, it would feel less of a body- part-fest. This week's selection was "Something to Tell" by DrSpin. As I started to read it, I realized I had already reviewed this one; but it was so good that I read it again anyway. The story has no explicit sex scenes at all -- just references in dialogue. How can that possibly turn into a good story? Well, it does. I have labeled this a "spouse watching" story, but the husband doesn't really watch his wife do anything. Rather, she describes and he imagines what happened. More specifically, on the way home from the party, the wife reveals to the husband that she fooled around with somebody else during the evening's entertainment. Then she forces him to ask the proper questions to find out what happened. As the wife says near the end of the story: "Trust breeds complacency and boredom. I don't want to be bored and I don't want to be boring." I think that's a valid point. My only doubt is whether the wife's antidote is the best one. One thing's for certain: this story makes the hypothesis worth THINKING about.
