First and foremost thanks to those of you who wrote and asked me to
expand on Sam and Eric after they first appeared in "Adoration."
Apparently you knew better than me that there was a story there
somewhere. Secondly, although I already have thanked Ruthie in the
header, she deserves more. She sent back my initial version of Part 3
and basically told me it wasn't very good. She was right, and after
working my way out of my funk ("Tied Up"), I returned to this story
with a vengeance. Ruthie pushed, made suggestions, provided examples,
etc. In short she did everything an editor is supposed to do and
after she and I had worked our tails off on this, we finally had a
story we could be proud of. Some of this is Ruthie's, she knows what
she wrote. For all of it she deserves much more than just a simple
line of thanks in the header. So without further ado, the final
installment of Graduation.

Graduation

Part 3

Wife

We were friends, then we became lovers. The road from one to the other
was long and bumpy, but it made the result sweeter in the end. Sam had
declared her love for me; mine for her was never in question. We saw
each other at every opportunity, only parting when one had a class the
other wasn't in, or had something to do that didn't involve the other.
I had, for all intents and purposes, abandoned my dorm room and moved
in with Sam at her off-campus rental house.

Tina and Debbie, Sam's roommates, were early risers like me, while Sam
tended to languish in bed until the last possible moment. In the
mornings the three of us would talk while Sam slept in. Our
conversations ranged far and wide, to the changes in curriculum in the
School of Education, which Sam, Debbie, and I attended, to the weird
eyeglasses of the new Dean of Students. During one of our morning
coffee klatches, we got into the subject of living arrangements and
they mentioned a certain lack of privacy with me living there. Tina
and Debbie thought it best if they roomed together next semester and
Sam and I found a place of our own. I offered to move back on-campus,
but they wouldn't hear of it. They loved Sam too much to cause her
unhappiness. Besides, when they weren't moaning and groaning about
privacy, they liked the idea of a guy living with them, ready to fend
off the perils, if any, of the outside world. With only another year
to go before their graduation, they dropped the matter.

I was a year behind Sam, Tina, and Debbie, which meant I was going to
be stuck without my three closest friends when they graduated. I faced
the unhappy prospect of finding new roommates or a new place to live.
I decided to accelerate my education so I could graduate with them. I
felt more comfortable with my future plans knowing we would all be on
the same schedule, hitting the bricks hunting for jobs at the same
time.

I lived in Orrstown PA, close enough to the college that I could go
home weekends without suffering through a long drive. I told my
parents I wanted to increase my course load - after all, they were
paying the tuition - about Sam, my plans to marry her, and our current
living arrangements. Mom had problems with my living with Sam before I
married her but Dad said if they could have done the same thing, they
would have. Mom blushed and didn't raise any further objections but
she made me promise to bring Sam home to meet them soon.

I signed up for every course I could get in summer session. I managed
to get 21 credit hours, which put me ahead of the pace I needed to
keep. I poured myself into my coursework. Sam found a job with a
daycare facility for the summer. We spent our spare time loving each
other and searching for the sturdy antique bed Sam was determined to
buy to replace the decrepit old bed we currently used. Don't ask me
the difference between an antique bed and an old one. Sam knew but I
didn't. By the time finals rolled around, we found one and had it
delivered to the house. They were nice enough to cart away the old
one.

That evening Sam and I found out why we had gotten such a good deal on
the antique bed. It squeaked louder and louder every time we moved. It
was the first time I had ever made love while laughing so hard. We
tried everything we could think of to get rid of the squeak but
nothing worked. Finally, we piled the covers on the floor to make
love, then climbed back in bed to sleep.

One day I went to the hardware store to buy light bulbs. The man
behind the counter was helping the person in front of me with a
plumbing problem. He seemed knowledgeable, so I asked him if he knew
of any way to fix a creaking bed. He advised me to take the frame
apart and rub soap everywhere the wood came together. Sam came home
from work just as I finished reassembling the bed. She asked me what I
was doing and I told her about what I had learned at the hardware
store.

"Let's try it out," she said, stripping her shirt over her head.

"Okay." We undressed quickly and climbed onto the bed. Wonder of
wonders, it didn't squeak!

I teased Sam with my fingers until she was wet and ready. I climbed on
top of her, slid into her easily. We moved slowly, still no squeak. I
moved a little faster. "Mmm, you can keep that up all night," Sam
purred. I kept that rhythm for a long time. Slowly we approached
orgasm. "Faster," Sam urged me on. Our hips moved quicker, the bed
rocked but still no squeak. "I think you fixed it." Sam moaned. "Oh,
God, oh Eric." I felt her come around me and I pumped faster, racing
to join her. I slammed my hips into her and came. I felt weightless.

Crash!

My body slammed into Sam and we both groaned. I looked at the side of
the bed. It was above my head, and we were scrunched below it! Sam saw
it too and began to laugh. I had fixed the creaking, but the braces
had broken and the mattress and box spring had fallen to the floor. "I
think it needs a little more work," Sam quipped. I fixed the bed the
next day, adding additional bracing so it wouldn't collapse again.

School started in September and we got back into our routine. I was
carrying 18 credits my final semester before student teaching, so I
had lots of studying to do. Most of these were advanced courses, so
the work was a little harder. Sam studied with me and helped me keep
my sanity. We ended our evenings cuddled together on the bed until we
fell asleep.

In the library one day, who should we bump into but Brenda! She of the
programming genes, the woman I dated while I dated Sam, the woman who
supported and loved me after Sam dumped me for Chase. It was a while
since I'd seen her, and she was looking good. Sam must have seen that
little glimmer in my eye because she jabbed me lightly in the ribs.

"You'll never guess what's happening," Brenda said.

"Okay, what?" Sam and I asked in unison.

"I heard from Chase. In fact, I've been hearing from Chase for quite a
while now."

I looked at Brenda and said, "Okay, what's the story, Bren? You know
that guy is bad news."

"You'll never believe," she said. "You know he switched schools after
that drunk episode when Sam slapped him and gave him the heave ho. A
few months later he started writing to me. At first I read his letters
but didn't respond. All he kept saying was how badly he had behaved
with Sam, how unforgivable his actions were... yada yada. He wrote
constantly, sometimes as much as twice a week."

"Why did you even bother reading that trash, Brenda?" Sam said in
disgust. "He's a real loser."

"No, no, his letters were full of remorse, and he pleaded with me to
understand. Okay, so what could I do? He's a real hunk and he seems
reformed. I responded a few weeks ago and now Chase is pouring his
heart out to me. His letters keep telling me how beautiful I am, how
he looks forward to my letters, how he always wanted to get to know me
better. He wants me to go out with him, and I kind of like the idea."

"Don't do it," I said. "He's a worm, and worms slime everything they
touch."

"He says all he wants is a chance to hold my hand and look in my eyes.
He'll meet me anytime anywhere, he says."

"Make sure it's not a dark alley," Sam commented sarcastically.

Chase's reappearance on the scene bothered both Sam and me. Brenda was
smart in certain ways but dumber than a doornail in others. Little did
we know how right we were.

I was home, studying on the couch by myself for a while. Sam had a
night class and would be returning soon. The doorbell rang. I marked
my place in the textbook, then got up and opened the door. Brenda
stood there wearing what was once one of her prettiest dresses. Now it
was torn and disheveled. I saw that she was crying and she rushed into
my arms and wrapped herself around me. I held her tightly while she
sobbed against my shoulder. Sam walked in as I was holding Brenda.
"What's wrong?" she mouthed at me. I held out my hands to signal I
didn't know.

I could feel Brenda jerk when Sam put her hand on her back. "It's
okay, Brenda, it's okay," she murmured. "Can you tell us what's
wrong?" Brenda tensed in my arms, fighting to bring herself under
control. "I., I think. we need to sit down for this," she gasped out.
We went into the kitchen. Sam put a box of tissues in front of Brenda.
"Thanks," she said softly. She took a deep breath, then told us her
tale. Her voice was shaky and devoid of emotion.

"I'm such an idiot. How could I have let this happen?" she asked. "His
letters were so sweet and his emotions so honest... " her voice
trailed off. She began to sob and it was difficult to hear the rest of
what she was saying. "I was so stupid," sob... sob..."I wanted to have
Chase because Sam stole you from me." She looked at me, tears
streaming down her face.

I said, "Okay, start from the beginning, Brenda."

"We went to O'Malley's, only we never got there," sob... sob... "He
pulled off the road into a secluded lane. I was screaming, no, no! He
stopped the car. Then he was on top of me... ripping at my clothes...
He... r..r.. raped me, Eric... he raped me! I tried to fight him off,
but he laughed at me. He told me... to tell Eric... that this was
payback for taking Sam away. He opened the car door... and... and...
shoved me outside. He left me there all alone. I walked here... broke
a shoe heel on the way."

Emotions warred within me. I had a burning desire to find Chase and
destroy him for what he had done to my friend and former lover. I
wanted to hold Brenda and comfort her.

"That bastard!" Sam shouted. "I'll kill him."

"No!" Brenda screamed. There was steel in her voice now, "He raped me,
and I'm going to get my revenge. Would you two take me to the police?"

We gathered a few things we thought we would need, then went to the
police. Brenda told them what had happened. Each of us was separated
and interviewed by the police. When we were done they took Brenda to
the hospital to collect evidence. Sam went with Brenda and I followed
behind in my car. The nurses wouldn't let me in with them so I waited
in the emergency waiting room. It took a while but they finally
emerged. Brenda was dressed in a sweatshirt and sweatpants that Sam
had grabbed before we left. Sam was so much taller than Brenda that
the clothes swallowed her up. If it weren't for the circumstances that
brought us here, I would have laughed. The police detective talked to
Brenda alone for a moment. I went over to Sam and gave her a hug while
we waited for Brenda. Brenda finished talking to the detective and
came over to us.

"I really appreciate your help and waiting for me," she said, her eyes
red and swollen. "You're real friends."

"Don't mention it," Sam replied.

"Could I ask one more favor?"

"Anything," I said.

"My roommate went home this weekend, could I..., I mean, would you
mind if I stayed with you? I'd feel better if I wasn't alone."

"Of course," Sam and I said in unison.

Chase was arrested for rape the next day. Within 48 hours his parents
had posted his bond and he was back out on the street. Justice wasn't
served, at least not yet.

Brenda had a tough time at first, and would visit with us a lot. The
hurts that had driven our friendships apart were healed by the bigger
hurt Brenda had experienced. She went to a rape counselor for a while,
and that seemed to help. Gradually Brenda needed us less and less and
things seemed to return to normal.

Thanksgiving break was fast approaching, and we decided to spend the
holiday weekend with my parents. Wednesday evening we took the short,
pleasant drive through the hilly countryside. They were delighted to
finally meet Sam, and insisted she call them by their first names,
Mike and Joan.

We spent our time talking, watching TV, enjoying the sumptuous
Thanksgiving dinner Mom prepared, seeing the "sights." My task of
showing Sam the sights of Orrstown consisted of pointing out the cows
and horses on the way in and out of town.

When I was able to get my Dad alone, I told him I wanted to ask Sam to
marry me and needed to get her a ring. Dad agreed to lend me the
money. I promised to pay him back first thing after I got a job.

Mom and Sam connected immediately and before long Sam knew each and
every secret of my childhood. Our last morning there, I heard laughter
from the living room and cringed inwardly, wondering what new secrets
Mom was divulging. It was worse than I thought. Mom had broken out my
baby album, and the two of them sat huddled on the couch pouring
through it. I hit the top of the blushing scale. Sam glanced up and
saw me.

"You're so cute when you blush like that," she teased.

Mom looked up, "Isn't he though. He always blushes at the drop of a
hat."

They both started to giggle. I was wrong. There was a higher level of
embarrassment. I retreated to the garage, while Mom and Sam renewed
their assault on the album.

Sam and I never really had a chance to be alone and I could tell she
was getting antsy. I told Mom we needed to leave early Sunday morning
so I could work on a paper due that week. Back at college, we raced
inside the house and made love to each other until we were too tired
to move. We fell asleep in each other's arms, awakening to the sound
of Tina and Debbie's voices downstairs. We got dressed and Sam went
down to join them while I carried our stuff from the car to our room.

A week after Thanksgiving I received a letter in the mail that I knew
was from Chase. It didn't have a return address and it wasn't signed.
Chase's letter said he knew Sam and me had put Brenda up to filing
rape charges, that I had better watch my back because paybacks were a
bitch. He went on to describe all the things he planned to do when he
kicked my ass. I didn't tell Sam or Brenda about the letter but I did
become more cautious.

My classes were busy and demanding. Sam and I - and a few thousand
other students - finished our finals. We thought we'd done well,
although I had a bit of a sinking feeling about the Chaucer final. The
college was decorated with Christmas wreaths and Chanukah menorahs,
which didn't address all the faiths of the students in school. So, for
a few days, demonstrators crowded the steps of the Student Union. It
was a happy, boisterous time for both of us.

With finals over we were on Christmas break. We went home to meet Sam'
s parents. I admit to being a bit nervous. As she insisted for our
Thanksgiving visit to my folks, Sam was adamant we wouldn't have sex
at her house either. It would be the longest period of time we would
go without making love since our first time. The night before we left,
we made love. We lay on our sides, our bodies pressed together. Our
hands stroked and teased each other, building our passion. We kissed
tenderly. I marveled at Sam's beauty as I slid inside her. My body
hung over her while my hips rose and fell slowly within her thighs. We
moaned softly to each other as the sensations coursed though us. We
clutched each other tightly when orgasm overtook us, our bodies
squirming against each other.

Sam's parents lived in a brick rancher in a Philadelphia suburb. They
greeted me warmly and welcomed me into their home. Mr. Canfield was an
electrical engineer and worked for Westinghouse. Mrs. Canfield was a
paralegal for a local law firm. They asked that I call them by their
first names, Arthur and Celia. We all had dinner while I fielded their
friendly questions. Afterward I helped Sam clean up and we all retired
to the living room for still more friendly grilling. Finally Arthur
and Celia went to bed and Sam nestled up against me. We held each
other, kissing during the commercials as we watched TV. Though I
dearly wanted to go further, to feel her against me, be inside her, I
held myself back in deference to her request.

When the question of sleeping arrangement arose, Sam made me sleep in
her room while she took the couch, despite all my protests. She
silenced my argument by telling me that her parents would feel
uncomfortable moving around the house with me sleeping in the living
room, but wouldn't be bothered at all with her sleeping there. It was
torture sleeping in her bed. Her perfume hung in the room, clung to
the pillows. I longed to hold her in my arms. I slept restlessly.

I awoke early and dressed. I knelt beside a sleeping Sam and kissed
her softly. "Morning, love," I told her.

She stretched her arms above her head, then wrapped them around my
neck, pulling me to her lips and kissing me. "I love you." Such simple
words, but I never tired of hearing them. Sam got up and went to her
room to dress.

I smelled coffee and followed the aroma to the kitchen. Celia was
seated at the table with a coffee mug in her hand. Other mugs sat on
the sideboard. "Morning, Eric. Help yourself to coffee."

I poured and took a sip. It was strong and hot, just the way I like
it. "You make good coffee," I told Celia.

She laughed, a slightly higher pitched version of Sam's. "I just pour
in the water, scoop it out of the can, the machine does the rest."

"OK, you pour good water and scoop well." I was rewarded with her
laugh again.

"Now I know why my daughter loves you. You're an interesting man,
Eric. Not many men could love a woman who hurt them as badly as Sam
did you."

Her statement surprised me. "You know about that?"

"Of course. She agonized about it all summer; she talked to me about
it. I was never really convinced that Chase was the man for her, but
she was. I'm glad she found out what he was really like before she
ended up making a mistake. I'm also glad you were there to help her
put herself back together."

"That's what friends do for each other."

"Or lovers," she said raising an eyebrow. If I was surprised with her
first statement I was shocked by the second. My mouth hung open and I
knew my eyes were wide as saucers. "I know my daughter, Eric. She
wouldn't have brought you home from college if she didn't love you. I
only had to see the two of you together to know that you were lovers.
Your eyes shine when you look at my daughter. She's a lucky woman."

"I'm an extremely lucky man."

"No, I don't think so. A patient man, I think. A man who loves her
very much. I don't think luck had anything to do with that. Are you
two getting married?"

"Funny you should ask that," I said with a smile. "I was hoping you
could suggest a restaurant, something romantic, where I could propose
marriage to her." Celia squealed, and rushed over to hug me. "Shhh,
Sam will hear you."

"I'm sorry, it's just... the two of you are so perfect together. I
could see that yesterday, and a mother... a mother always hopes that
her daughter will find a man who truly loves her. You're her knight in
shining armor."

I laughed, "Hardly, more like the toad that needs to be kissed. It was
Sam who rescued me when she first met me."

"No, you are, you picked her up, helped her over Chase, and never
stopped loving her." Celia dried her eyes. "When did you want to do
it?"

"As soon as possible, the ring is burning a hole in my pocket. I
almost broke down and gave it to her before we came here."

"Can I see it?" Celia whispered.

"Sure, let me go get it." I went into the living room and searched my
backpack for the ring. I crept down the hallway to check on Sam. She
was in the shower. I could hear the water running. I came back to the
kitchen and opened the box. Fresh tears welled up in Celia's eyes.

"Oh, it's gorgeous," Celia sobbed. "She'll love it." Celia dried her
eyes again. "You should make reservations at Le Bec Fin in downtown
Philadelphia. It's a romantic restaurant and the food is superb. A bit
pricey though."

"I don't mind, not for this night anyway."

"Good, how about I make the reservations for you after you get Sam out
of the house?"

"Sounds like a plan to me."

"I'll make the reservations for Friday at 6:30. Westinghouse has their
employee Christmas dinner-dance Friday evening. We shouldn't be home
before midnight, so that should give the two of you plenty of time."

"To ask her to marry me? I should think so."

She gave me an exasperated look. "Eric, you can't possibly be that
dense. I'm sure the two of you can think of something to do between
the time you get home and midnight."

I wasn't dense, but of all the things I expected to talk about with
Celia, making love to her daughter wasn't one of them. "I'll take it
under advisement," I said sipping my coffee. Sam breezed into the
kitchen, murmured a merry, "Morning, folks" to both of us, and saved
me from further embarrassment.

"Good morning, Sam. What are you two planning on doing today?"

"I'm going to take Eric to the mall, do some Christmas shopping."

"Sounds like fun," Celia replied.

Shopping is my least favorite activity. With Sam it's tolerable.
First, we shopped for our parents together, then separated for a while
so we could shop for each other. I figured Sam would spy on me to see
what I would buy her so I wandered into Victoria's Secret to put her
off my trail. I stayed in there for about 15 minutes, then rushed over
to the jewelry store to get her the heart-shaped locket she had oohed
and ahhed over when we picked out her mother's gift. We returned home
loaded with purchases. We sat in front of the TV that evening and
wrapped presents. When Sam went to the bathroom, I made a hurried call
to the restaurant. They already had our reservations, of course, but I
needed them to do something special.

With the last box wrapped and bowed, I told Sam we were going out to
dinner Friday night to someplace nice. She smiled with a knowing
smile, "Should I dress up?" she asked.

"Absolutely," I said, kissing her lips. We necked on the couch, our
passion growing with each kiss, each caress.

"God, I want to make love to you," she sighed.

I wanted to, too. "Sam, we can't."

"I know, I made the rule, remember? You better go to bed, before I
forget the rule."

"I'm perfectly willing."

"So am I. Go to bed."

We kissed one last time and I went to bed. I don't know about Sam, but
I didn't sleep well at all.

Friday was a difficult day. It was an effort to act normal, to not be
excited. Even though I thought I was under control, my nervousness
must have been evident to Sam. To her credit, she never mentioned it
once. The day dragged on and on but finally it was time to get ready.
I showered, shaved, and dressed in my best suit, then waited for Sam.
Oh, she was drop dead gorgeous. She had on a short black cocktail
dress held up by spaghetti straps. The neckline was modest, displaying
only a hint of cleavage. Her long brown hair hung behind her and
curled in little ringlets at the sides of her face.

"God, you're beautiful," I gasped.

Sam giggled. "You look pretty good yourself." She reached out,
adjusted my tie. "You ready?"

"Sure." I felt in my pocket one last time to make sure I had it. "Let'
s go."

I had memorized the directions Celia had given me and managed to get
there without getting lost. When we pulled into the valet parking
stand Sam grabbed my arm. "Le Bec Fin? Eric, you can't afford this."

"Tonight I can, let's enjoy ourselves and forget about the money,
okay?" Sam nodded her agreement. We left the car with the parking
attendant and, with her arm in mine, walked inside.

The Maitre 'd seated us at a table in the corner of an elegant room
illuminated by a huge, ornate chandelier. Candlelight flickered
softly.

"God, Eric, it's so beautiful," Sam cooed. "Look at the wood, it's so
polished it glows." It was beautiful, but no match for Sam. I didn't
want to look anywhere else.

Our waiter handed us a gold-framed menu featuring a list of
delectable-sounding entrees. Le Bec Fin featured a price-fixed,
all-you-can-eat type of cuisine. The waiter started with an impressive
array of appetizers, and all of it was excellent. As dinner wore on,
he kept bringing new foods to the table. Celia was right, it was a
culinary experience. Our surroundings and the attentiveness of the
staff awed us both.

"How did you come to pick this restaurant?" Sam whispered.

"I asked your mother if there was someplace special I could take you
for dinner. She recommended this."

"Oh, so it's a special occasion?" she fished.

"Sweetheart, anytime I see you dressed like this is a special
occasion." She was clearly not getting anything out of me, so she went
into her mock pout. God, that look was sexy in blue jeans and a
sweatshirt. In her current getup it was devastating. I told Sam I
needed to use the restroom. I found our waiter and talked to him,
slipping him a fiver and the ring. I returned to the table. "Did you
save room for desert?" I asked.

"None for me. I think I've already gained ten pounds from this meal
alone."

"Hmm, maybe we can go home and work it off, your mother told me they
won't be home until after midnight."

"So your plan was to stuff me full of fattening food, then take me
home and have your way with me?"

"Pretty much."

"Oh." Disappointment was evident in her voice. It was priceless.

The waiter appeared and set a covered dish in front of Sam. I
swallowed hard to clear the lump in my throat.

Sam looked at the waiter. "I'm sorry but..."

I nodded at the waiter and he removed the cover. The pastry chef had
sculpted a pillow out of chocolate cake. On the pillow, in a white
whipped cream circle, he had created a pastry ringbox. Sam's ring
shone in the box. Sam gasped, stared at the ring, then looked at me in
utter amazement. My phone call to the Maitre 'd had produced elegant
results.

"Will you marry me, Sam? Be my wife? Bear our children? Grow old with
me?" No answer. "Sam?" I repeated.

Green eyes glistening, she nodded her head and said, "Yes" in an
explosion of breath. Then she jumped up and sat on my lap, planting
kisses all over my face, whispering "yes" with each one. I heard
applause and glanced around the room. The other diners were clapping
their hands, some were even standing!

Sam grabbed her ring out of its pastry box and handed it to me. I slid
it on her finger. It fit loosely. We would need to get it resized. I
brought her hand to my lips and kissed the ring. "I love you."

Sam pressed her lips softly to mine. "I love you, too."

The restaurant owner came to our table and kissed us both,
congratulating us. "On a night like this, a toast is in order," he
announced. He signaled the waiter to fetch a bottle of champagne, then
expertly uncorked it. Champagne bubbled out of the bottle, which he
quickly captured in three glasses, one each for Sam and me and a third
for himself. Holding his glass aloft, he toasted, "To a life of love
and happiness." Sam and I sipped our champagne slowly, holding hands
and savoring the moment. He thanked us for choosing his restaurant for
this special occasion. We returned his thanks, after which I settled
the tab, leaving a generous tip for the waiter.

Patrons stopped to congratulate us as we walked out of the restaurant.
I felt wonderful. I handed my parking ticket to the attendant and he
retrieved my car. I drove home holding Sam's hand, my thumb lightly
stroking the back of it.

We arrived at her house, went directly to Sam's room, and undressed.
Sam finished before I did, turned down the covers, and reclined on the
bed. I joined her and sighed as our flesh pressed together. We kissed
softly, then more passionately. Sam pushed me on my back, guided me to
her hole, and groaned needfully as she took me inside her. "You've
made me the happiest woman in the world," she said as she slowly rose
and fell on top of me. I reached up and fondled her breasts, softly
squeezing her nipples. Sam sped up, grinding herself against me on
each downstroke. She bent forward, offering her breasts to my lips. I
kissed them softly, then sucked her nipple into my mouth, rasping my
tongue over the sensitive flesh. Sam gasped and rocked back and forth
faster, driving me deeply inside her. She moaned loudly, and came
around me, collapsing into my arms. I stroked her back softly while I
waited for her to recover. "God, I love you," she laughed softly into
my ear. "What do you need?"

"To love you."

"You just did, very well I might add."

I rolled her over, kissed her. "I can do better."

I glanced at the clock beside the bed. I had lots of intimate time
left. Sam's parents wouldn't be home for at least an hours. I kissed
my way down her neck, my penis sliding out of her. I made love to her
with a passion, with my mouth, my lips, my tongue, and finally my
phallus. I delighted in hearing her moans, savored her taste, ravished
her, and shuddered inside her while she clutched me tightly and came
with me. I collapsed on top of her and we rolled onto our sides,
trying to collect our breath. Sam stroked my cheek softly. "That was
the best ever," she sighed. I had to agree.

We washed up to get the smell of sex off us and waited for Arthur and
Celia to come home. They arrived around 12:30. The first thing they
looked at was Sam's ring finger. We passed around congratulatory hugs
and kisses, Arthur and I settled on a handshake. "You did good," Celia
whispered as she kissed me. "Welcome to the family."

The next morning I found Sam downstairs in the kitchen discussing
wedding plans with her mother. They only asked me one question and
that was when I wanted to do it. I told them as soon as we could after
graduation, anytime in June would be nice. After that I was excluded
from their discussions.

I wandered out to the living room where Arthur was sitting watching
TV. "They'll be at that all morning," he said. "I don't suppose you'd
like to play a round of golf in the cold?"

"If it gets us out of here, I'm all for it."

Arthur chuckled. "I knew there was a reason I liked you. Dress warmly
and we'll leave them to their planning." We had a good time and a
chance to bond. Arthur knew a lot of jokes and delighted in telling
them while we rode in the golf cart. After our round we stopped in the
clubhouse where Arthur introduced me to his friends as his future
son-in-law.

We returned to school for our final semester. Sam was radiant when she
showed off her ring to Tina and Debbie. She asked them to be her maids
of honor and they both accepted.

Sam and I had student teaching for our last semester so we didn't
actually spend much time on campus. We saw each other at night, did
our lesson plans together, then went to bed to love or cuddle with
each other.

I graduated with Sam. Both of our families were there to see it. We
interviewed with a number of school districts that interested us. One
offered jobs to both of us and we accepted. We found an apartment to
live in after the wedding, and moved the furniture out of the house to
it. I stayed with Sam and her parents while she went to fittings, met
with the caterer, and the cake lady. My parents came to Philadelphia
for the rehearsal and dinner. After the dinner I dropped them off at
the hotel then went back to Sam's home. The house was still dark, so I
must have beaten them there. I parked my car in the driveway, slammed
the door shut when something drove into my back, knocking the wind out
of me and sending me flying across the hood of my car. I struggled to
my knees. Looking up I saw Chase rushing toward me. He jumped on top
of me pinning me to the ground. I grappled with him, trying to roll
him off and defend myself.

"You couldn't leave well enough alone, could you," he spat loudly. I
could smell the alcohol on his breath. "You convinced that bitch to
press charges, didn't you? Well you'll pay." Chase drove a fist in my
ribs. I heard a sickening crunch. Pain shot through me, took my breath
away. My attempts to dislodge him were getting weaker. Chase laughed
at me. "What a fucking pussy you are." He freed a hand, drove his fist
into my jaw. I saw stars, tasted blood in my mouth. Dimly, I heard
sirens. "Come on motherfucker, scream for me. I want to hear you
scream like that bitch when I raped her, hell she put up a better
fight than you." I tried to throw him off, I didn't succeed. "I'm
going to fuck you up bad," Chase laughed. "The only way you'll be
getting married is if they wheel you into the church in a wheelchair."
He drove another fist into my jaw. I moaned.

"Christ, you even moan like a pansy, what the fuck does Sam see in you
anyway? When I finish with you pussy-boy, I'm going to find your
wife-to-be and rape her. Won't that be a wonderful wedding present?
Every time you make love she'll be reminded of me." He cackled
gleefully above me. I saw red and have no conscious memory of what
happened after that until the police grabbed hold of me and cuffed me.
According to the police report, I had grabbed a loose landscaping
stone beside the driveway and smashed it into Chase's head. When they
arrived I was on top of him, pounding him with fist after fist into
his face. That must have been when I broke my wrist. Sam's neighbor
had heard the disturbance outside and called the police. God bless
Mrs. Snoddley. I will never, ever complain about nosy neighbors for
the rest of my life. I probably owe her mine.

So instead of holding my beloved, I spent a wonderful evening at the
local police department and finally at the emergency room at the
hospital. The damage was mainly superficial, cuts and bruises for the
most part, two broken ribs that were painful as hell, some lacerations
on the inside of my mouth, and a broken wrist. Chase wasn't as lucky.
The blow with the rock gave him a concussion and I managed to knock
out five of his teeth while punching him. I wish I had done more.

It was a long night filled with talking to police, doctors and nurses.
The police finally decided that I was defending myself and that Chase
had attacked me. Mrs. Snoddley's statement was what won them over.
After that they allowed Sam and our parents in to see me. Sam rushed
to me, her eyes red and swollen with tears. Sam hugged me tightly and
I moaned loudly, while white-hot bursts of pain shot through me. Sam
broke out in fresh tears, sobbing out an apology. "Just don't
squeeze," I gasped. She buried her face in my shoulder and cried there
until she got herself under control. I told them what I remembered of
my fight with Chase.

The doctor came in a little later and told me I was lucky. The ribs
hadn't punctured a lung but they wanted to keep me overnight for
observation. I would be free to go in the morning unless I developed
complications during the night.

Sam told me she wanted to postpone the wedding. There was no way that
was going to happen and I told her so. If they had to wheel me in on a
gurney we were getting married Saturday. The pain pills the doctor
gave me were kicking in and I fought sleep while I argued with Sam.
For once I won, but I think she just gave in out of pity. Visiting
hours were almost over, so we said our good-byes. Sam gave me a big
kiss and hugged me gently. "I'll be here in the morning," she
whispered. "I love you."

"I love you, too," I mumbled as I gave in to the pills.

Some time after that I was wheeled out of the emergency room and to a
hospital room. I had an efficient nurse who woke me every few hours to
take my temperature and check my breathing. I'm not sure why they keep
you in a hospital to rest when they insist on waking you constantly.
When I awoke for good on Friday morning Sam was by my side. She was
clutching a teddy bear that wore a T-shirt saying, "I love you this
much." She kissed me softly. "Did you sleep good?" I just moaned. Sam
giggled, "That bad, huh?" We talked while we waited for the doctor to
come around and release me.

The doctor listened to my breathing. He had me get up and move around
some. My ribs ached, but they weren't as bad as the night before. He
told me to stay off my feet as much as possible and to get as much
rest as possible. We told him we were getting married the next day. He
congratulated us, warned me to rest until the ceremony, and not to
overdo it on my wedding night. The last was said with a wink at Sam.
He signed something on my chart and told us we were free to go. We
went back home and I slept for most of the rest of the day and through
the night.

Sam's church was decorated beautifully. The organist and singer she
picked did a wonderful job. When the preacher said it was time to
start, I followed him out with my best man, my cousin Jim. Tina and
Debbie walked slowly down the aisle, both were gorgeous in their
dresses. The organist played the wedding march and Sam appeared on her
father's arm. She was my goddess, she radiated beauty and love as she
slowly walked down the aisle. Arthur handed her to me. "Take care of
her," he said. I nodded. We said our vows. Sam's hand trembled
slightly in mine as I held her. We exchanged rings, were pronounced
man and wife. I kissed the bride, my friend, my lover and my wife. It
was a perfect kiss, full of promise, love, and hope. Brenda, sitting
in the third pew, applauded loudly. She was really happy for us.
Chase, of course, was in jail.

The rest of the wedding was a whirlwind of posing for photographers,
ducking rice thrown at us, and talking to our guests at the reception.
We only danced one dance together due to my injuries. By the time we
said our good-byes I was exhausted, my ribs ached fiercely and my
wrist was throbbing. We rode the elevators to the bridal suite on the
top floor. I helped Sam out of her dress as best I could under the
circumstances, and she helped me remove my tuxedo. I turned down the
covers on the bed and waited for Sam. She came out of the bathroom and
smiled a tired smile at me. She climbed into bed and lay beside me,
letting out a contented sigh.

"I love you, Mrs. Masterson." It sounded so good, so right.

"I love you, Mr. Masterson."

We began with slow kisses, our lips pressed lightly together, while we
stroked each other languidly. Sam brought my good hand to her lips,
kissed each of my fingers. "I'll love you 'til the day I die," she
murmured. She pressed on my shoulder, rolled me onto my back. "You
just lay there, don't move a muscle." Sam kissed my lips, my cheeks
and my chin. She kissed down my chest, avoiding my taped up ribs. Her
hand cupped my balls, fingers gently rolling them back and forth. Sam'
s soft lips kissed the end of my penis. I moaned out my need, my hips
bucked slightly. "I thought I told you not to move," she said softly.
I got myself under control. Her soft pink tongue lapped at the head,
her lips spread and she slowly slid me into the heat of her mouth.
"Jesus," I moaned, my hands involuntarily came up to hold her head.

Clunk.

Sam slid me out of her mouth. "Ouch, Eric, damn it, watch that cast."
She rubbed her head where it had hit her. "You're not being very good,
I told you to lie still."

"I can't, it's involuntary," I whined.

Sam gave me a devilish smile, something told me I was in trouble. "So
what you are saying is that you need help keeping yourself still?" she
asked. I nodded. "Stay right there." Sam came back with a pair of
hose. "Sam, I don't think..."

"Hush, you need help, now give me your wrist." She tied my wrists to
the headboard. "There, that should keep your cast out of the way.
Besides it's kinky and it's turning me on." She planted soft kisses
all around my groin, up the length of my shaft. "Now behave," she said
as she took me in her mouth. God, it was incredible, the soft liquid
heat as she bobbed slowly up and down my length. In spite of myself,
my hips started bucking, my ribs started hurting. She slid me out of
her mouth, I moaned while Sam sat there shaking her head. "The doctor
told you not to overdo it."

"But, Sam..."

"No, no buts, Eric. You're probably hurting right now, aren't you?"
She stared into my eyes. Apparently, she saw confirmation. I knew I
would never be able to lie to her. "Sometimes, Eric, you can be a
horse's ass." She untied my wrists. "Now, I'm going to straddle you.
You tell me if I hurt you, no macho bullshit, okay?" I nodded. She
carefully straddled me, reached back and guided me into her. She
already had me close from sucking me, and the pleasure from sliding
into her put me right back on the edge. "Oh, God, you feel good inside
me. I'm not going to last long." I knew I wouldn't. She rocked her
hips back and forth, little movements that kept me on the edge, but
took her higher and higher. Her soft pink tongue licked at her lips
while she mewed her pleasure. "Oh, Eric, I love you," she called out
while she came around me. I joined her, pouring my love into her and
moaning out her name. She slid off me carefully and lay down beside
me, her hand softly stroking my chest.

"I love you," I whispered.

"I love you, too." Sam sat up, pulled the covers over us, and turned
off the light. She nestled into the crook of my good arm and sighed. I
lay there listening to her breathing, knew when she fell asleep by her
soft snores. I thanked God for what he had given me, and went to sleep
adoring her.
