Statement in response to unauthenticated material relating to Miss Emma Watson released on the world-wide web in 2004

Miss Watson has requested that the following statement be made public. She has taken this unusual step in response to defamatory material which has recently been published on certain internet sites.

There was an incident involving an intruder on the site of a location-shoot in the summer of 2004. This was dealt with at the time by liaison with local authorities and the imposition of a restraining order. If the individual concerned can be shown to have published any account of the incident, no matter how distorted, then he will be in breach of the restraining order and action may be taken against him and any individual or corporate entity aware of the legal restraint and knowingly party to the publication.

Furthermore, Miss Watson and her advisers wish to make it clear that the incident did not take place as described and that no credence should be given to what is clearly the fantasy of a disturbed individual. Miss Watson was personally upset by the document released as Confession of an Emma Watson Lover and wished to state her feelings on the matter in her own words, which follow:

“I don’t think people should be allowed to make up things about other people, especially rude and nasty things about their private life. I don’t have a steady boyfriend just now, but if I did, I hate to think how he would feel if he read this kind of stuff and believed even half of it, especially the second half. Anyway, it’s not anyone’s business what I do when I’m not in public. I’m just a normal girl, with all the usual feelings, and yes, it’s true, you can get a bit lonely on these location shoots so I’m not going to pretend I’m a saint, but I wouldn’t want my fans to think I’m some sort of sex-maniac! I’ve never gone further than a bit of kissing and cuddling, never with anyone over thirty and certainly never with the boys in the road crew – except once, which was a kind of accident as I thought he was a friend of the producer. As for ‘doing it’, like it said in that horrible confession thing, I definitely haven’t – and I would like all my many fans to know that I am sav ing myself for someone nice, so if you were upset by that nasty story, like I was, than you don’t have to be. No one has ever touched my thingy, not since I was very young anyway, though a few have had a good go at it, believe me! On a film set, you’re always liable to be groped, touched up etc. and by the way that applies to the boys as well, so you can’t be too prim and proper about it, but my personal attitude is that only a really serious boyfriend should be allowed to touch me between the legs or on my breasts, and if someone grabs me for a kiss – which happens A LOT – then No Tongues! (Yuck!) unless they’re Jude Law or someone like that – as if! So this is a message to all my fans, to say I love you all and I’m still the Emma Watson you have always known and you musn’t believe the bad things you might read about me – try reading a Harry Potter book instead!”

End of Emma Watson’s personal statement.
