Part III

“So what happened after high school?” I asked. Mindy smiled and took Alex’s hand before continuing:

Two years later I was ready to keep my promise. I was accepted at the same college as Alex. Alex had come home for spring break. I needed to let the college know I would attend the following year. Everything seemed to be falling into place. I didn’t have any idea there would be a problem. Mom, Alex, and I were sitting in the kitchen.

“I’m so happy I’m going to State,” I said. Alex smiled my way and nodded.

Mom clasped her hands together and sort of cleared her throat. “About that,” she started. Something in the tone of her voice filled me with alarm. “I’m not sure State is the best college for you, dear.” I started to argue but she cut me off. “Listen for a minute. Just listen.” She paused and looked at both Alex and I before continuing. “I have been thinking a lot about you going off to college. It needs to be a time when a person matures, learns to be their own person.”

“I’m going to do that,” I protested. “Alex has matured at State.”

“I know,” she said. “It’s because he’s been off on his own. If you go to State, you won’t have that experience, meeting new people, meeting men...”

My mind shifted into overdrive. Had Mom guessed? The way she said, men, filled me with dread that she knew our secret. I looked at Alex, desperate for him to help.

“Mom, I’m not going to be Mindy’s caretaker if she comes to State. She can date,” he said. “Believe me, I’ll be too busy to watch her like that. But if she does need help I’ll be there.”

‘Thank God for Alex,’ I thought. I felt myself relax just a bit.

Mom smiled. “I know that. But Mindy is just a little too dependant on you. She needs a chance to learn to be her own woman.” I started to protest, but mom shushed me again. “You don’t have to decide today. Think about what I’ve said. You’ve been accepted at Tech as well. Tech is a fine school. We’ll be glad to help you go there.”

She stood and kissed Alex and me, then left. I was stunned. It seemed the world was coming to an end. Tech? That was all the way across the state. I’d never see Alex. The whole world seemed against me. “Alex, what are we going to do?” I asked forlornly.

“Go to State, together,” he said confidently.

“Do you think Mom knows?” I said voicing my darkest concern. Alex shook his head, but I thought he looked a little worried under his smile. “What are we going to do?” I hadn’t a clue.

“That’s because you’re a girl. If you only knew football...,” he said.

“Football! You’re talking football when our whole lives could be ruined,” I nearly screamed.

“Shh. Yes, football. Leave it to Alex,” he said smugly.

That was the first time I worried that Alex might be insane. Football?

What I knew, but hadn’t considered because it meant nothing to me, was that Dad was a lifelong State fan. I always saw him watching football on Saturdays but who cared what team it was. Alex knew. And he worked on Dad. I don’t know what was said between our parents but by the time Alex was headed back to college after spring break, my week of worry had been for naught.

It was our last dinner when Dad said, “Mindy, I hope you’ll choose State next year.”

I nearly dropped my fork. Mom was looking down at her plate. “Why?” I asked.

“I think it’s the best school in the state. I’d be proud if you graduated from there, just like I’ll be proud when Alex graduates,” he said.

“I’d like to go there...” I said looking at mom.

She was staring at me, her face unreadable. “Your father is pretty persuasive,” she said. “I didn’t know I’d be a football widow to my husband and my children.”

“Now, Dear,” Father said.

“Don’t Now Dear me. I’ve already capitulated, for now,” she said. “I hope this does work out for the best.”

And so I went to State. Alex and I drove back together for my first semester. Alex had found us a cheap apartment. Dad was happy that Alex would be able to keep an eye on his sweet virginal daughter who hadn’t dated much in high school and would be easy prey for the wolves at a college campus. I didn’t need any wolves. I had my own puppy dog in bed.

When we got to the apartment, Alex let me in. It was small, only one bedroom and one bed. “What happens if Mom comes for a visit?” I asked. I was still worried about what she might know, or suspect.

“The couch folds out into a bed. We’ll keep sheets on it, just in case. I’ll keep my clothes out here and you keep yours in the bedroom. Don’t worry,” he said.

I threw my arms around his neck, kissing him. Together at last. The kiss quickly heated up, all of our pent up desire burst out. Alex dragged me, uncomplaining, into the bedroom. Our bedroom. I smiled to myself, thinking that finally we could sleep in the same bed and not have to sneak off before morning. Our clothes quickly scattered around the room.

We had been lovers for four years, but this was the first time we could really be together without worry. I was hot and ready for him. As he entered me, I was able to let go completely, unafraid, unworried. I held him to me, his cock filling me, over and over. ‘Our bed,’ I thought, knowing that we would be together tonight and every night. Alex quickly climaxed. I held him close, knowing he was spending his seed into me. I didn’t climax, but in some ways it was even better, knowing that Alex was mine, all mine, in our bed. As he finished I felt his body on mine, skin to skin. I had my man.

“And so you lived together?” I asked.

“Yes,” Mindy nodded. “Except when we went home at the holidays. We didn’t even sneak into each other’s rooms then. We made up for it when we got back.” They shared a wicked smile.

“And your mother?” I asked.

Mindy laughed. “She did sneak up once for a visit. Alex was home and I was in class. Alex happened to look out the window and saw her getting out of her car. He threw off his clothes, pulled out the couch, and climbed in. When mom came in she saw him sleeping on the pull out bed and the bedroom had my clothes scattered over the bed. She left smiling.”

“And what happened then?” I asked.

“It was two years of happiness. Mom came a few times, but we were always ready. I was worried when Alex graduated that he would have to move away. Alex found a job in the city we were able to continue living together in our little apartment until I graduated.
