Chapter 8

A relationship near the end!
Sue shaking my arm awakened me.

“It’s almost nine o’clock, I have to go.  I told my parents I would be home early and I need to call Bess,” she said.

I was pissed at myself.  I intended to awaken earlier to have more time with her in bed.

“You can stay a little while, can’t you?”  I asked.  I wanted to make love again.

“Let me call Bess first,” she said.  She was getting up and putting her clothes on as I watched.  “She looks good in the morning too,” I thought.  While she went to the kitchen, I put my pants on and went to use the bathroom and brush my teeth.

She returned to the bathroom minutes later and said.  “At least my parents haven’t called to check on me.  I told Bess if they call, to tell them I left a few minutes ago and to call me here.”

“Does that mean your staying?”  I asked.

“I can’t, I need to finish getting ready.  Can I have the bathroom a few minutes?”

“Sure.”

I went to the bedroom and finished putting my clothes on.  Minutes later she came out and I still couldn’t believe it.  She’s gorgeous and I just spent the night with her.  I thought to myself.  I felt lucky, knowing I would make a fool of myself over her.

We went into the den and stood kissing for a few minutes.

“Can you come back over today?”  I asked wanting to see her.

“Yes, I’m coming to pick you up, I want you to meet my family.”

“I would love to meet your family.  What time?”

“Let me make sure everything is all right first.  We eat lunch at one o’clock on Saturdays.  But I’m going to try to get back here between twelve and one, is that all right with you?”

“Sure, that’s fine with me,” I answered.  I walked her to the car and told her to call me if anything changes.

“I will, Bye.”

She left as I went back into the house to the kitchen to find something to eat.  I poured a bowl of cereal with milk and sat at the table.  After I had finished eating, I was sitting alone thinking about Sue when Cathy walked in.

“Good morning,” she said.

“Good morning,” I replied.

I could tell she had been up awhile.  She had her make-up on.  She looked good but I was past being bored with her.  However, I needed her house.  She had gotten a bowl of cereal and sat at the table.  We sat not saying anything for a few minutes.  She was wearing a robe with no bra and it was open enough for me to see most of her.

“Jason might walk in any minute,” I said.

“So.”

“So close your robe.”

“He’s still asleep, we were up late last night,” she muttered.”

“So you got you some last night,” I said, in a whisper.

“Maybe, what about you?”

“I fell asleep.”

“Bull- Shit!”  She blurted aloud.

“Damn girl!  Keep your voice down,” I said, to her in a low voice.

I got up, put my field jacket on, went out on the porch, and sat on the steps.  It was cool but I didn’t want to go back inside until Jason got up.  I was already wishing it were one o’clock.  I got up and walked around the block a couple of times.  When I got back to the house Jason came out and asked what I was doing.

“Just killing time, Sue is going to pick me up between twelve and one.”

“How did it go last night?”

“Great!”  I answered smiling.

“I tell you what man, she looked good in that mini-skirt,” he said with a grin.

“I tell you man, she looked better out of that mini-skirt,” I replied as we burst out laughing.

“Let’s go in the house, I’ve got to eat breakfast,” he said.

“I’ll come in a few minutes, I’ve got some thinking to do.”

“Okay,” he replied.

I went in and gathered my clothes together in a bundle putting them on the porch and walked around the block a couple more times trying to figure out how I could get out of this situation.  I didn’t have another place to be alone with Sue.  I knew things would probably have to stay this way for a while.

Sue drove up at twelve o’clock, and I was glad to see her.  I grabbed my things and got into the car.

“Let’s get the hell out of here,” I said.

“What’s the problem?”  She asked.

“Nothing, let’s just go.  We didn’t say anything to one another until she pulled into a service station and parked.

“What did you stop here for?”  I asked.

“We need to talk.”

“About what?”

“You and Cathy, I know there is something between you two.”

“How did you arrive at that?”  I asked.

“She told me!”

“What!  What did she tell you?”  I asked being shocked.

“This morning when I was in the kitchen using the phone, she was in there.  She said to me.  “He’s good isn’t he?”  “I beg your pardon,” I said.  She just repeated.  “He’s good isn’t he?  I didn’t say anything to her.  I believe she just wanted me to know.”

“That Bitch, I’ll never set another foot in that house, I swear!  I know why she did it.  I’ve been avoiding her ever since I met you,” I explained and was apologetic now that she knew.  “I’m sorry I lied to you.  That wasn’t something you want to tell the truth about, I’m sorry.”

“You don’t have to apologize if you’re not having anything else to do with her.”

“I’m not, I swear!  She has gone too far this time.”

“Jay, I have been thinking about something for a while.  Since I have been living back at home, I’ve not had the privacy I expected.  I want to get back out on my own.  So I’m going to get a apartment.”

“When?”  I asked.

“As soon as I can find one.”

“You will love being out on your own,” I said.

“I want you to move in with me,” she replied looking into my eyes.  I looked at her being shocked and then teased her by looking over both of my shoulders to see if she was talking to someone else.

“You don’t even know me!”  I said, being uncertain and happy at the same time.

“I know you well enough, “after last night,” she replied.

“I would love to, but really, I can’t help with any money,” I explained.

“I can do it myself.  I have the money and I will not get a large apartment, just something with one bedroom.  I know people that are renting rooms,” she explained.

“Sue, look at me!  I don’t think I’m bad looking by any stretch of the imagination.  Some have said that I’m cute.  Look in the mirror.  You could be on the cover of any magazine.  Why me?”  I asked.

“The night we met at the drive-in, When Bess, Jennifer, and I were sitting on the car next to you, we were saying how cute you were and after we met, you were so funny and outspoken.  You were so cocky and I loved that.  I enjoy being with you.  I love being with you right now” She explained.

“I love being with you too.  I said, as I laughed a little to myself.

“What is so funny?”  She asked, frowning.

“Nothing you said.  Just before you picked me up, I was thinking of a way we could be alone other than having to meet at her house.  I want out of that situation so bad.”

“This is the way for you to get out of it,” she replied.

“So you’re doing it because you feel sorry for me,” I said, teasing.

“Jay, don’t say that.  I’m being serious.”

“You know something.  That same night when I first saw you, I thought you were gorgeous in your tight jeans.  You weren’t wearing any make-up.  I could tell because I could see the freckles on your cheeks.  You were the most beautiful girl I had ever seen.  I was surprised you were so friendly, if you hadn’t been, I would have thought you were a snob.  Then I would have had to go into my snob mode, just to be arrogant.”

“We learn something every day don’t we?”  She asked.

“I suppose we do,” I said.

“You should know something else.  I was married for two months, but last year my husband was killed in Vietnam,” she explained.

“I’m sorry, how did it happen.  If you don’t mind me asking.”

“I was told the truck he was in ran over a mine.  That’s all I know,” she explained.  I didn’t ask her any more questions about him.

“About the apartment, you know I have to be at roll call at six every morning and my car isn’t running now.  How would I get to work in the mornings?  You are not going to want to take me in that early.  When I meet your mom and dad today and you tell them tomorrow that you want to move out, who are they going to blame?”

“They will say what they always say, you’re an adult now, you have to make your own decisions.  Jay please, let me find an apartment, we’ll look at it together and if it is a nice one, I’ll tell my parents I’m going to move out, okay?”  She asked.

“Are you sure?”

“I’m sure.”

“I want you to know something!  Being with you this week has been the best time of my life,” I stated.

“Me too!”

As she drove out of the station, I was wondering if this was really happening.  Nothing made sense at this moment.  For a second I asked myself, “Is there is something wrong with her?”  As she drove, my arm was over the seat with my body turned towards her.  I stared at her pretending not to.  She’s so beautiful!  In my heart, I was so excited, if I were to say anything, I would have made a fool of myself.  A few minutes later, we pulled into the driveway of her parents.

Meeting her family!
As we entered the house, she introduced the three youngest ones, Mickey, Sammy and Josh who were waiting at the door.  Sue had told everyone she was bringing me home to meet everyone and eat lunch.  Her father was sitting at the table and her mom was at the stove preparing the meal.  The aroma smelled of stew.

“Nice to meet you Sergeant Major Sir!”  I said, as Sue introduced us.

“Good to meet you son.  Sue said you’re with the Cavalry Division.”

“Yes Sir!  I work on the flight line.”

“I’m Doug.”

“And I’m Ray,” her two older brothers stood up shaking my hand.

“Mom this it Jay,” sue said as I walked over to her and shook her hand.

“Very nice to meet you Ma’am.”

“So this is “The Jay”!”  Her mom said smiling at Sue making fun of her.

“Mom, please!”  She said wanting her to stop.

“You two go sit at the table.  It’s almost ready,” her mom said speaking of dinner.

As I sat down her two younger sisters, Joni and Lisa came in and Sue introduced us.  Sue got up and helped her mom bring the food to the table and everyone helped themselves.  As we were eating Joni mentioned Genie, their other sister had told her she wasn’t eating with us.  She was going to a friend’s house to eat.  A couple of the others commented that was good, they wouldn’t have to put up with her while they were eating.  I was curious as to who was this outcast.  Before long Genie appeared on her way out to say bye.  I stood and shook her hand as she looked at me as though I was foolish for standing.  She was gorgeous, but that didn’t tell me anything.

“I’ll be home later mom,” she said walking out the door.

After dinner, everyone sat around the table talking.

“Do you expect to go to Nam son?” her dad asked.

“I’m not sure at this time sir!”

“I believe all soldiers should experience combat,” he said with a firm voice.

“I’m of the same opinion sir,” I replied.

Mickey the youngest asked me all kinds of questions, which I had only a few answers for most of them.  We were about to get up from the table when Bess and Jennifer walked in.

“Hi everybody!”  They both said as everyone said “Hi” in return.

“Hi Jay!” they said to me.

“Hi Jennifer, Hi Bess,” I said, as they sat at the table.  They continued talking to Sue and her mother about some shopping they had done yesterday and wanted to return some items when all of them could get together.  All of them were talking over one another.  I looked at her dad and we smiled shaking our heads making fun of them.

“If you think that’s something, you should have heard them yesterday when they were fussing over you!”  Joni stated.  Everyone became silent.

“Joni!” her mom said scolding her.  I looked at her dad again and he turned his head smiling.

“We were just discussing you over supper Jay.”  Bess stated.

“You weren’t!  You were dividing him among you!”  Joni blurted.

“Joni I can’t believe you told him that.”  Jennifer stated.

“I just tell it as I see it.”

“We were having a little fun with you Jay.”  Jennifer tried explaining.

“Should I pick up three marriage licenses tomorrow Joni,” I said, teasing.

“No, four!  Mom kept saying, “I’ve got to meet this boy!  I’ve got to meet this boy!”  She said in a teasing way.  Her dad began laughing aloud.  I laughed with him and Sue’s mom began laughing.

“Okay girls, its time to confess up,” her mom said and continued.  “By what the girls were telling me I thought when I met you today you would be wearing a cape or at least fly in,” her mom explained with a smile.  I smiled not being able to hold it back.

“I’m the one that needs to confess up.  You should have heard me telling some of the men about the three most beautiful women in the world I met at the drive-in.  All of them wanted me to bring them by the barracks so they could meet them.  If I get a chance, I’m going to show all of you off too,” I said, to keep them from being embarrassed any further.  Everyone began talking and laughing again.

“Do you see what I mean Momma?”  Sue whispered to her mother not realizing I overheard.

After awhile, Sue told her mom we were going for a drive.  I looked at Bess and Jen.

“Do you two gorgeous girls want to go with us?”  I said, teasing.

“Sue, get him out of here before I throw this fork at him.”  Bess said holding it up.

I announced it was nice meeting everyone as we walked out.  Her mom walked us to the porch.

She called me back to say something.  “Any other boy would have gloated and left it at that.  That was the sweetest thing I have ever seen.”

“I don’t understand,” I said.  She smiled and walked back into the house.

They were nice people and I could sense her father didn’t disapprove of me.  We left and she drove to the river where many of the kids parked and made-out.  It was beautiful looking across the river.  It was cool although we had our jackets on and wrapped a blanket around us.  We talked more about her getting an apartment and sat cuddled up enjoying the time.

I began thinking of why after just knowing each other only a week she wanted us to move in together.  It didn’t make sense unless she really liked me.  I felt she did but I was afraid to trust my feelings at this moment for fear of making another mistake.  She seemed infatuated with me as I was with her but would it last.  Was she looking for an excuse to move out of her parent’s house?  There are fifty thousand other GI’s on post and she knows I don’t have any money or transportation.  I knew I was afraid of any commitment, especially moving in with her.  However, if I had an apartment I would want her to move in with me!

Three weeks had passed and still, she had not found an apartment.  I drove to the hospital everyday at lunch to see her.  At least three times a week she picked me up after work and I would eat supper with her family.  The other days, she would meet me while I ate in my company mess hall.  I was beginning to get use to everyone around her house.  Her mom and dad were always friendly toward me.  Bess and Jennifer were usually there.  After supper, I would sometimes spend time with her father in his shop in the backyard.  We would have conversations while I would help him work on the lawn mower or refinishing an old piece of furniture which we both loved doing.  He mentioned he wished his son’s could serve but all of them had medical deferments of some kind.  I knew it bothered him so I didn’t ask questions about it.

I knew he wasn’t an openly sentimental type person but he mentioned David, Sue’s husband as we were refinishing an old chair.

“Sue told you about David, didn’t she?” he asked.

“Yes sir, she explained what happened.”

“He was a good boy and we all miss him.  Sue hasn’t had any serious boyfriends since David, and I think it has done some serious damage to her.  I feel somewhat responsible and I do not know if she would want me to say this but I hear her and her mother talking.  She gets excited talking about you.  I believe she might break out of that cocoon she has put herself in,” he explained.

“Sir, I’m going to be honest with you.  I believe I’m the luckiest person on earth.  I have never known anyone that could compare to Sue.  She’s so perfect, in every way, I wonder sometimes myself if she’s real.  I can’t explain it but her heart is so pure,” I said, as we stopped and looked at one another.

“I know what you mean.  I feel that way about her mother.  That’s where Sue gets it,” he said and continued sanding.  We never spoke of things with that much emotion again.

Enjoying Life!
Sometimes Sue and I would leave after dinner and go to the park along the river.  Sometimes walk along the river or have sex in the back seat.  I enjoyed this time.  The park was the only place we could go to be alone for now.  I think I was more and more falling in love with her but not willing to say the words.

We were holding hands while walking in the park one afternoon and she began asking personal questions.  If I told her the truth, she would probably get in the car and leave me standing alone.  I was reluctant to tell her anything.

“Jay, do you miss being at home with your family?”

“Not right now, I’m with you,” I answered squeezing her hand.

“What about when you’re not with me, don’t you have friends or a girlfriend back home that you miss?”

“I don’t have anything at home right now that I miss except maybe my family.”

“What about a girlfriend?”  She continued.

“Not any more.  Sue, you don’t want to ask these questions,” I replied trying to convince her not ask me anything.  She stopped and turned facing me.  Reaching her hands around my neck, she pulled my face to hers and kissed me softly on the lips then pulled herself back to look in my eyes.

“I’m sorry, you have been hurt, haven’t you?”  She asked, with a curious look.

“Please!  Let’s talk about something else,” I said, putting my arms around her with my face in her hair.  “You smell so beautiful.”  There was a moment of silence.

“David never said anything like that to me,” she stated speaking of her former husband.

“I can’t believe that!  Never?”  I asked in disbelief.

“Never.”

“Did he at least ever say he loved you?”

“Sure we said it all the time.  But there are different kinds of love.”

“What do you mean by that, either you love someone or you don’t?”  I asked being puzzled.

“He was the only boyfriend I’ve had since seventh grade and the only boy I have been with other than you.”

“You loved each other didn’t you?”  I asked.

“I don’t know if I can explain it.  I loved him, but I’m not sure now if it was true love.”

“Why did you marry him?”  I asked.

“After we graduated he was going to go to the University of Kentucky on a football scholarship, but was drafted by the Army.  He could have gotten out of the draft but I think that because of my father, he decided to choose the army.  He asked me to marry him and I did.”

“What makes you think that it wasn’t true love?”  I asked being curious but knowing why she was telling me this.

“I just know.”

“How do you know?”

“I didn’t know then, but I do now.”

“Do I need to ask twenty more questions for you to get the point?”  I asked in a lethargic manner.

She was silent being upset with my mannerism.

“I’m sorry.  I know what you want to say but I was wanting to hear it from you,” I explained arousing her curiosity.

“What was I wanting to say?”  She asked, as if I had no idea.

“You were comparing the feelings you had for him to what you feel for me.”

“How did you know?”

“I just knew,” I said, without explaining.  She stared at me with a curious expression on her face.  I smiled and kissed her.

“I told you my life story now tell me yours,” she stated.

“Well, I was born in Mississippi, my dad was in the service, we traveled around and here I’m,” I joked as I smiled at her.

“Wow!  That is exciting.  “She chuckled and then looked at me in a serious way saying “Please talk to me.”

“I can’t talk about it now,” I said, again thinking it was better to say nothing than to lie.

We walked along the river talking and throwing stones.  It was beginning to turn dark so we returned to the car and got in the back seat.  A few minutes later, we were removing each other’s clothes under the blanket.

“I hate this!  Lets go to my barracks so we can be on a bed,” I teased as she laughed.

“I’m looking every day for an apartment,” she responded.

“I know, but this is awkward.”

“You don’t like being in a back seat of a car making love to me?”  She asked.

“I love being in the back seat of a car making love to you,” I answered.

“You love it?”  She asked teasing.

“I love it.”

“Then lets make love,” she said.

We were completely nude, she on her back, I was laying on my side with one arm over her and the other under her neck.  Our legs bent because we couldn’t stretch out.  I began sliding my hand over and around her breast, pulling the blanket down enough to look at her.  After feeling each other, we made love.

“You know something.  I do love being in the back seat of a car making love to you,” I joked.

She grabbed my throat.  “You are so incorrigible,” she laughed.  We lie there a few minutes longer, got up and put our clothes on.

She drove us to the barracks and parked.  We talked a while when David and James pulled up parking along side us.  They came to the window as I rolled it down.

“Hey Jay!  How is everything going?”  David asked.

“Good David!  How is everything with you and James?”

“Great, we’re just getting back from eating dinner with Lynn and Joanna, your old flame.  James is dating her now!”

“Did you two have a good time tonight?”  I asked.

“Sure did!  You two should come with us one night,” he stated.

“Maybe, I’ll see you two later,” I said.  I wasn’t trying to be unfriendly but I wanted to be alone with Sue.

“Okay, we’ll see you later.”  David answered as they walked away.

“They are a couple of good guys,” I remarked.

“They seem nice,” she replied.

“How many old flames do you have around here?”  She asked, with her eyes cocked and a slight grin.

“I went out with her for a couple of weeks but that was months ago,” I replied.

“You are the biggest liar!”  She said laughing, as she slapped me lightly on the shoulder.

“I swear that’s the truth!”

“Sure!”

“Can I say something?  It may seem presumptuous of me but I think it needs saying.  You act as though you’re jealous of me for some reason.  I’m the one that should be jealous,” I said, rubbing her cheek with the back of my hand.

“I’m just trying to find out if you have someone else that you care about.  I was afraid to ask you straight out,” she explained.

“You don’t seem to understand.  I would be stupid to want someone else.  I think about you constantly to the point it’s unreal.  I can’t do anything without thinking of you,” I replied.

“I’m the same way!”  She said with a surprised look.

“From now on it’s you and me, okay,” I said, leaning over kissing her.

“Me and you,” she said putting her arms around me.  We kissed for a short time.  “I need to get home.  I’ll pick you up at nine-thirty in the morning,” she said being in a hurry.

“I’ll be moping until you get here,” I said, joking with her.

I was content knowing she was in love with me.  It made me feel good.  We kissed again and said good night.

David and James were sitting on my bunk when I got into the barracks.

“What the fuck do you two want?  I asked.

“Damn Jay!  You need to marry that girl.  She’s the prettiest whore I’ve ever seen.”  David stated making fun of what I had said about the girls around here.

“She is a whore,” I responded not letting him get the best of me.

“Damn Jay, I was just kidding, you know I don’t feel that way,” he added.  He couldn’t believe I had said that about Sue.

“I wasn’t kidding!  They’re all whores,” I said, with a serious look.

“Whoever it was that fucked your head up, you need to let her go man!  Sue is fine!  If you dump her, I’ll take her,” he teased.

“She’s over your head ass-hole,” I joked.

James threw himself back on the bed laughing aloud.

“What the Fuck are you laughing at Mother-Fucker?”  I asked James.

He was laughing so hard tears were coming from his eyes.  He had gotten the three of us laughing aloud.  One of the other men at the other end of the barracks yelled.  “Shut the hell up down there!

“Hey, suck my Dick for the second time tonight Mother-Fucker!”  I yelled back.  We cracked up laughing again.  After a few moments, I decided to tell what Sue and I were contemplating.

“Sue is looking for an apartment, she wants me to move in with her.”

“Your stupid if you don’t.”  David said.

“Yeah, do it Jay!”  James agreed.

“That’s easy for you to say.  E-4’s make more money than E-2’s,” I said.

“Do it anyway.”  David coaxed.

“I will have to think about that one.  Get off my bunk I need some shut-eye.  Tomorrow is Saturday and I’m going to spend the whole day with her.”

“See you in the morning.”  They said as they were leaving.

The next morning I slept a little late.  After showering I was dressing when one of the men came in the barracks, telling me Sue was in the parking lot waiting for me.  As I walked out, she was leaning on her car with several of the men from my barracks standing around talking.  Their attitudes were opposite the same foul mouth men I knew.  They were acting cool and being polite while talking to her.  I knew why.  Her beauty and personality stupefied them as she had done me.

“It’s a 67’ Nova guys!”  I said teasing them, knowing it was Sue that had their interest.

“We can see that!”  Putnam replied.

“I thought maybe you guys were standing around admiring her car wondering what kind it is,” I continued with a smile.

“She is a very beautiful car too!”  Stanton replied.

“Have you guys met Sue?  Sue this is Stanton, Putnam, Davenport, Willis and Washman,” I said, introducing them.  They all said “Hi Sue”.

“Lamour you didn’t tell us about Sue.  I can see why you have kept her a secret.”  Willis stated.

“I’ve only known her about two weeks guys and I haven’t been keeping her a secret.  She picks me up here almost every day,” I said.  We stood around for about thirty minutes talking.  I was eating it up inside.  I noticed all of them staring at her at some time.  She talked and was very friendly to each of them.  I knew every one of them would be able to picture her face for the rest of their lives.  I could see the awe in their faces as was in mine when I first saw her.  I didn’t feel selfish with her.  I wanted everyone to see and talk to her.  That was my way of strutting among the men.

After leaving, she mentioned that Bess and Jen wanted us to come by for a while.  She drove us to Bess’s house and we went in.  I met Bess’s parents and visited a few minutes then we went out onto the patio.  I sat and listened to them talk of everything under the sun.  I didn’t mind it because Sue was enjoying it so much.  I realized she needed her friends and I would encourage her from then on to visit as much as she wanted, with or without me.  Bess and Jen mentioned all of their friends had missed her at the park the last couple of Saturdays.  She and all her old high school friends would meet at the park on Saturday afternoons and sit around talking or playing touch football.

“If you girls want to go I won’t mind.  Sue I know you want time with your friends and it’s not fare that I keep you from spending time with them,” I stated.

“If I go I want you to be with me.”

“I’m sure most of them were David’s friends too.  They probably won’t think too much of me showing up.”

“I don’t believe they will say anything but if they do, then they’re not my friends.”

“Bess, Jennifer, what do you think?”  I asked.

“Jay!  It isn’t up to them.  I want you to go with me,” Sue said.

“I don’t think you understand.  If they say something to me, I can smile and walk away because you’re with me.  If they say something to you I’m going to hurt someone.”

“No one is going to say anything.  Let’s go!”  Jennifer stated.

“Let’s go!”  I replied really wanting all her friends to see me with her.

We stayed at Bess’s until two thirty and then drove to the park.  There were about thirty-five boys and girls almost equally divided.  They had been playing touch football for a while before we arrived.  Sue, Jen and Bess introduced me to all that were sitting on the picnic tables and then to those that swapped off the field.  It wasn’t as I expected.  Everyone was very nice.  I tried to be as Sue was this morning with my friends although I couldn’t leave the same impression as she.  They invited me back each Saturday if I wanted to come.  I accepted and we did make most of them.

I had talked to Jason but had not been back to his house since committing to Sue.  He asked that we should come by sometime and I said, we would but I never returned to his house.  I told them at work that if any girl calls other than Sue that I’m not here.  They said I did get a couple of calls from a girl but she wouldn’t leave their name and I figured it was Cathy.

Sue and I had been together every night the following week.  Thursday she called me at work and said, there was a garage apartment available, she wanted us to go look at it, and she would pick me up at five thirty.  When she said that, I became very nervous.  I think if she already had the apartment that it would be different about making a commitment and I wouldn’t feel this way.

We walked up the steps and into the apartment.  It was nice and clean.  The owner said he had just remodeled it.  It was small, the kitchen, den and bedroom were all one room with a small bathroom.  She kept asking me what I thought.  I kept telling her if this were what you want, you would have to make that decision.

“He’s asking one hundred fifty a month, what do you think.”

“You’re the one who’s paying, it’s up to you,” I said.

“You don’t seem interested in us getting a place.  Are you?”

“I can’t wait for you to get a place of your own, but it has to be yours.  I told you I couldn’t commit to anything myself, but if you get it, I’ll be right there with you,” I explained.  She walked over to the bed, sat on the corner with her hands in her face and looked as though she wanted to cry.  I went over, sat down beside her and put my arm around her as she began crying.

“What’s the matter?”  I asked.  She hesitated a few moments to get her thoughts together.

“I want to do this for us, but you act like you don’t care!”

“I care, I want to be with you more than you know.  Can’t you tell by the way my mouth drops open whenever I look at you?”

“I’m serious!”  She said looking at me with a straight face.”

“What else do you want me to say?”  I asked.

“I want you to say …” She hesitated not finishing her sentence.

“I knew what she was thinking.  I pulled her back by the shoulders until her head rested on the bed then I leaned over looking into her face.

My mouth dropped open and she slapped my shoulder.  “Stop that!”  She said.  I leaned down and gave her a kiss.

“I love you,” I said, telling her exactly what she wanted to hear but I wondered if I really should have said it.  However, I knew I was in love with her.

She put her arms around my neck, pulled me to her with her mouth next to my ear.  “I love you too.”  She said.  I kissed her mouth, then all over her face.

“It doesn’t matter how much I love you, I can’t help you pay for this apartment,” I remarked.

“It doesn’t matter if I get this apartment if you don’t love me.”

“Then you get the apartment and I’ll love you,” I replied as she smiled as though that was what she wanted to hear.

“Let’s go down and tell him we want it,” she said.

“Let’s go down and you tell him “you want it.”

“You know what I mean!”  She replied.

“Let’s do it before we go down.  I said, jokingly.  I put my hand up her skirt on her thigh.  She had a short skirt nurse’s uniform on that buttoned up the front with white panty hose.

She began unbuttoning as I grabbed her hand.  “Maybe we better tell him first,” I said.

We went down to the main house and she paid him the deposit telling him she would move her things in Saturday.

We walked to the car and she looked at me, and said.  “Do you want to go back up for a while?”  She said as my mouth dropped.

“Why do you keep doing that?”

“I’ll tell you when we get up there.  Did you get all the keys?  Go back and tell him you want all the key’s,” I said.

She came back minutes later and said we had the only ones.  We walked back up to the apartment and I reached the bed first and lay back teasing her.

“I’m ready,” I said, looking at her.

She stopped and stood at the end of the bed at my feet.  She began humming and swaying in rhythm, in a sexy manner and then unbuttoned her dress slowly down the front.  My mouth dropped open.  She smiled and continued humming and unbuttoning as my heart began pounding.  After unbuttoning her dress down the front, she let it slip down to the floor then began undoing her bra and teasing me by sliding it down slowly over her breast, uncovering them and letting it fall to the floor.

I have never had a girl do this for me.  My adrenaline began flowing, and I was enjoying every second of it.  She slid her pantyhose slowly down her legs until they were off.  Then leaned over and put one knee on the end of the bed and began moving her shoulders slowly side to side, her breasts swaying with them.  I couldn’t stand it any longer.  I reached up and grabbed her arm, pulling her on top of me with her breast in my face sucking them.  I was making wild slurping noises as she was pressing them in my face.  She knew exactly what she was doing to me as I could feel my blood boiling and goose bumps ran over my body.  I jumped up and began quickly removing my clothes.

“Strip for me!”

“What do you think I’m doing?”  I said, smiling.

“Do it slower, I love your sexy body,” she said in a sexy tone.

“I’ll slow down next time,” I said, smiling.

She was lying on her back with one leg straight and her other knee bent, moving it side to side exposing herself on purpose to arouse me.

I gazed at her as my mouth dropped open.  “Do you know what you’re doing to me?”  I asked.  She began laughing aloud.

“You are so crazy,” she said.  She was right.  I was crazy, with lust.

I lunged on top of her and began sucking her lips, face and neck as I was trying to get myself inside her.  After finding my way in, I began pushing hard between her legs.  I raised my upper body watching myself going in and out of her being almost out of control.

“Do it!  Do it hard!”  She said after grabbing my waist and pulling me into her.

I almost came but pulled out, putting my mouth on her breast licking and sucking them, working my way down wetting her belly with my tongue.  I moved down until my tongue went inside of her licking around and sucking hard on her as she moaned.

“Oh yes, suck me!  She screamed.  I sucked all inside her; sliding my tongue in as far as I could until her body began shaking uncontrollably.

After a few minutes, she pulled me up to her face.  I put my prick back into her and pushed until I couldn’t hold it back.  I shot liquid in her as deep as I could.  We grabbed each other pulling ourselves together with our bodies quivering wildly.

We had made love and decided we were going to spend the night in her new “Room,” which I called it.  We sat on the bed talking for hours.  As we lay together that evening, I had been thinking how great this is going to be.

Returning from the shower, I stopped and stood beside the bed staring at her thinking she was asleep.  She looked so sexy lying on her back with her hair flowing over her pillow.  The sheet was covering her body except for one leg exposed from the thigh.  What else could anyone ask in life?  I’m in bed with the most beautiful woman in the world and she’s in love with me.  Is this really happening?  I leaned over the bed, kissed the inside of her thigh and moved up next to her with my arm propping my head up staring at her then leaning over I kissed her on the cheek.

“What are you doing?”  She asked, opening her eyes.

“Nothing,” I answered continuing to stare.

“What are you thinking about?”

“I’m just looking at you.  Is that okay?”

“Are you laying there wondering if you’re making a mistake?”  She asked.

“Just the opposite.  I’m thinking how lucky I am,” she rolled over and put her leg and arm over my body with her body against mine.

“Can I ask you something?”  She asked.

“Sure, what?”

“Did I force you to say something you didn’t want to say?”  She asked, seeming insecure.

“No.  Sometimes I have a hard time expressing how I feel.”

“Because of her?”

“Yes.”

“You still love her, don’t you?”

“No, It’s not her, it’s what she did to me.”

“I’m sorry it happened but I’m glad too.  I have you now.”

“I’m glad you forced me to say it.  I love you more than you know,” I said, joking.

“I’m glad I forced you too.  I love you more than you know,” she replied with a smile.

We didn’t see one another the next night.  The line chief asked me the next morning if I wanted to fly a night flight to check an instrument panel and I accepted.  I knew while on these type flights, the pilot would let me fly and I didn’t want to pass that up.

Saturday we went to her family’s house and picked up her clothes and a few small furniture items.  I talked with her mom and dad while there, but not about being in her apartment.  They never questioned my motives.  I knew they liked me and Sue told me that her mom said that I was a nice young man.  If they had only known what was really in my heart.

Everywhere we went the other men would stare at her in awe, as I did.  A couple of them told me that I was the luckiest son of a bitch on the earth.  Some days when she came by to pick me up, I would take her into the mess hall, and she would wait with me while I ate supper.  She didn’t want me to, but sometimes I would fix her a plate.  No one ever said anything.  I was proud to go places with her and show her off.  I tried to act normal around others as though it wasn’t anything to me but she knew, because I always acted a fool when we were alone.  Sometimes I would tease her that I took her places so everyone could see me with her.  We always held hands or had our arms around each other’s waist.

During this time, to her it was never about her, it was always me.  Everything was what do you want, where do you want to go, what do you think, and you tell me.  After a while, I totally accepted that she did love me.

I did get into a couple of scrapes over her.  She said it wasn’t worth fighting over but I felt different.  When one of the men would cuss in front of her, I would get upset.  I would ask them once, not to use that language around her.

One of my good friends tested me by saying.  “Why the fuck not,” sue was standing with us.  I hit him in the jaw and he fell backwards into the wall and started to come back at me but stopped himself, and apologized to her.  I think she loved me more for it though.  She must have said something to her father about it.

We were at her house one night eating supper and afterwards her dad stopped me in the hallway and said.  “Thanks for standing up for my daughter.”

“It’s my honor sir,” I replied.

In less than a week, I had found a ride in the mornings with one of the married sergeants in my company.  This made it easier on Sue.  She insisted on me staying with her and driving me in each morning until I had found a ride.

The summer was passing and I loved every minute we had spent together.  However, it was on my mind a lot that I wanted my orders to Vietnam.  In the back of my mind, I knew she would dump me if she had any idea I was going.  It wasn’t the right time to say anything if I wanted to end up with nothing.

I had never known anyone like her.  She was so honest and sincere about everything.  It was as though she thought everything through before she made any decisions but I knew that wasn’t the case.  I had no doubt that she loved me and I loved her but the hate and shame in the back of my heart seemed to keep me level-headed about reality.
