I've said this before; I'll repeat it now: Mind Control is not my thing. Usually a mind control story is just so much non-consensual sex.

With that disclaimer out of the way, I'll admit that there is something... seductive about the idea of having total control of a person. I can understand a little of the charge a Dominant feels. It isn't necessarily the sex, but the power. But power corrupts...

So why am I spotlighting an author of what are not only mind control but reality control stories? Because Xanthos Pendragon at least made an effort to write an ethical tale of mind control. Oh, his protagonist succumbed to the temptations readily enough at the beginning, but he struggled with it as he reflected on his abuse of power.

It's pure fantasy, and romance. (And we know I like romance.) Only in fantasy can a guy end up with a harem of women who love him for himself and aren't jealous of one another - and get the laws changed so he can marry them all.

I ought to mention that the late Xanthos Pendragon wrote in a literary universe created by JR Parz, who collects the various "Master PC Universe" stories. Most of them follow that formula of dominance and humiliation. But, I even wrote one of my own, though I can't tell you whether it was more tribute to Xanthos or parody.
