Why anyone else would like to know more about me is a subject for their therapist. Mine is booked solid.
I'm a widower with two wonderful children - make that one wonderful adolescent and one adult with a family of his own, including the cutest granddaughter in the world. I retired after 20 years of adventure (it wasn't just a job) and settled down to a more mundane career, when Real Life removed my least mundane and Most Significant Other. After years of alternating depression with recession, surfing the web as a substitute for Getting A Life, a web review site recommended Jimmy Hat's web site. "Jane thinks he's original," it said, or words to that effect.
Jimmy's site rekindled my romance with the written word. His links sent me to other authors, who in turn gave more links. Next I was at ASSTR and Stories Online, and reading reviews and browsing collections. I read Celeste's Blowjob Principle and started telling authors what I liked about their stories, or just that I liked them. Next thing I know, I'm lurking on a news group (ASSD), something I'd never done because Chat Rooms and News Groups put your e-mail address on the web and garner Spam. Except it didn't, because discussions explained about munging your address to avoid that.
All too soon I de-lurked. I got involved. And then a curmudgeonly editor waved inspiration under my nose, and I started writing again. My attitude began improving, which was noticed at work. My real life is getting a lift from my virtual life, so this can only be a Good Thing.
So as long as this cycle continues, I'll continue to write. I hope someday I have that effect on somebody else.
