Part 2

So I said to myself yeah I could do what Doug told me to and get Mai and the boys out of danger. But that's probably what you freaks reading my mind expect me to do. So that's out.

"Mai"

"Yeah Andy"

"Fasten your seatbelt tight!"

"Andy, we're going to drive home right?"

"Not tonight Vic"

"Yeahhh!" said Aaron. He was waving his arms out freakily through the window but hey that's okay I'm not judgemental.

My tires squealed as I pulled the car around in a tight turn. You didn't expect that did you. Because of all those thoughts about penguins I bet. What's that about penguins? You sick Fucks!

"Andy are you okay?"

"I'm just trying to block out the mind readers."

"Have I told you how much fun it is dating a paranoid?"

"No really Mai, vampires can read minds."

"And the other times?"

"That's just being careful. You know?"

"I guess."

"Watch out!" yelled Aaron.

"Why?" I asked.

"You almost ran over little cat." Said Victor.

"And that would be a bad thing?" asked Aaron. He's a good kid down deep. Down very deep.

The Goths scattered as I chased them through the grass and around trees. Doug and Ryan chased after my car yelling "Go Andy, you crazy madman you."

I had my sunglasses down and I felt a broad smile. This could be addictive. Mai was smiling too and Victor and Aaron were yelling encouragement. The guys who hadn't run away climbed up one of the larger trees. Than I saw Carly running towards the tennis courts.

"You know you probably shouldn't drive through that part of the park." Aaron said. "You're probably right" I told him "But you know what I love about the word should?" "It means you recognize something is wrong while you're doing it?" Vic said hoping he was wrong.

"Exactly" I told him and floored it.

---

My child. The fool! She was leading them right to me. Damn her and her useless minions. I would have to take care of them myself. I reached out with mind to take control of the fool driving the car. Damn! His mind was closed to me. It was impossible to penetrate the configurations of penguins?

"Save me" Carly cried out as I gained on her. Who was she talking to? For that matter who exactly am I talking to? Get out of my head! I swerved the wheel to avoid the vending machine as Carly dived to her left. I hit the breaks and stopped inches away from the outer fence of the tennis court.

Doug X and Ryan who had been running behind us caught up.

"She dived towards the admin building." I yelled out.

They ran in the direction she had gone, and then some thing leaped out of the bushes and struck their heads together.

"Ouch" Mai said. "That looked painful."

"Yeah, but you always say Doug's hard headed."

"Ooh, bad pun Andy." Victor put in.

"I kind of liked it" was Aaron's comment.

"I think you guys should get out of the car."

"Oh that's a good plan."

"Shut up and get out of the car."

"Okay Andy" and they got out of the car quick like as I gunned it into reverse. The thing was right behind me. I couldn't make out exactly what it was, it seemed part of the shadows. But I slammed on the gas headed straight at it. But it leapt straight into the air and I missed it. I heard a loud thud as it landed on top of my car than my neck jerked as the rear end of my car slammed into something hard. My forehead slammed hard into the steering wheel. Oooh blackness, pretty."

I leapt up into the air as the odd mind drove straight towards me. I landed lightly on the roof as he slammed end first into the building behind me. Though his mind was unreadable to me I could feel his consciousness slip away.

I faced the young ones and the girl.

"Vampire chick" said the artist "nice."

"Vic" said the innocent "you've got to stop hanging out with Doug X"

"Sorry" he said. "I like the guy."

"You bitch!" shrieked the girl. "If my muscle was here you'd be toast!"

"Yeah!" said the artist. "Hey why isn't Leslie here?"

"School night." Said the innocent.

I reached out with my mind and twisted.

"It's okay, I was sick of him anyway."

"Mai!?" the other two said in surprise and shock.

"Long as you're here Aaron, how about you take his place. You've always said how we shared a 'connection'"

"Ah ah ah" stammered the innocent. Oh this was enjoyable. Meanwhile I grabbed the artist behind the neck and drew him to me. He struggled in my grip but he stood no chance against my unnatural strength.

"Nice vampire chick. No bitee?" my prey said hopefully. I smiled and lowered my mouth to his neck.

"Hey, she bitch! No biting my friends" said a voice from behind and a body crashed into me from behind. The human twined his legs through mine and locked it's arms around my neck and started counting to himself.

"Three, four and five. Six, uh, seven. Hey Vic."

"Yeah"

"She's not tapping. No arms spasming, no signs of going unconscious. I've got this on correctly right?"

"It looks the way it did on the website."

"Than what's going wrong."

I couldn't speak as my airflow was restricted or I would have giggled. How very human! "Doug!"

"Hey Ryan, I'm kind of busy here."

"It's important!"

"Okay! Bitch why aren't you tapping?!"

"Vampires don't breathe!"

"NO?"

"NO!"

"Vic?"

My body shook with unvoiced laughter.

"He's right."

"Shiiiiiit" he exclaimed as I threw him over my back and into the nearest tree. "Fool!" I cried after him.

"I pity the fool who tosses around my friends!" the artist said and charged at me. I lashed out with the back of my hand and caught him across the cheek. He dropped like a pole axed steer. I turned my attention to the quiet one. The one called Ryan. He held a wooden blade. That could be bad if he thrust it through my heart. And it had a point on it. I gave a mental call to my child.

"Ryan" she said. "I'm sorry about hurting you. You're my favourite minion." She approached him seductively.

"You mean that?" he said. Then he composed himself. "No, I'm not going to be one of your minions. This isn't going to be that kind of relationship."

"But you used to like it when I dressed in laytex and said things like that." "Can I watch" the cagefighter said from where he lay half conscious under a tree. I could feel the warrior wavering. I reached out again with my mind and gave his a gentle shove.

"Well, I guess that could be fun, right?"

"Right" my child said. And they walked hand in hand to the tree line. I surveyed where the girl I controlled taunted the only one left against me. This could be so easy.

"Yo she bitch!" a voice yelled.

I turned and a young man in a long black coat stood next to a tall girl in a ponytail and glasses.

"Funny, that's what the other one said."

"Yeah, well we watch the same movies." Said the boy.

"It's a flaw they have" said the girl.

It looked pretty bad. Doug X was half conscious. As we were coming up I saw Carly leading Ryan by the hand and he was making puppy dog eyes at her. So I couldn't count on him. My brother was spouting off bad B movie dialogue, and Mai was coming on to Aaron!

"Mai" I yelled. "Stop it."

"You gonna make me bitch?" she said.

What had gotten into her. I slapped her across the face. "Snap out of it Mai" At first she looked ready to take my head off. Than she shook herself.

"Sorry, I don't know what got into me." Then she looked at the car smashed into the building. "Andy" she yelled and ran over to the car.

I looked back at the vampire and saw Sam had picked up Ryan's boken blade where he had let it drop. He grabbed it and swung it hard at the vampire. It bounced uselessly off her chest.

"She can't be hurt like that Sam" I cried out.

"Shut your mouth little girl!" she hissed at me. I can't believe it. And she was a total tramp vampire too. She wore a tiny white baby doll t-shirt and this tight black vinyl skirt. And these black boots that went up all the way to her thighs. No wonder she trashed the guys, they were probably too busy ogling her to fight back. Well come to think of it, she wasn't bad to ogle at really. The hem of her skirt sort or rode up to show black silk panties.

I got my mind back on the job. Just in time too as she had lifted my brother up over her head.

"Throw me the sword Sam" I yelled to him. He tossed it to me just as she tossed him through the air where he landed near Doug X. They tubaskragula'd each other weekly then fell forward into the dirt.

I was on my own. The sword was way heavy and I could barely keep it upright as she stalked towards me. I was mad, but I was also scared as hell. I couldn't keep my legs from shaking as she stalked towards me.

"You're so cute" she said. "Like a little girl playing with toys too big for her. I think I'll make a child of you. Then you can have all your friends for minions to play with." "I'd rather keep them as friends thank you."

"Such spirit. Maybe I'll just kill you instead."

I didn't know whether to be thankful for that or not. I just held the sword in front of me. "Get back" I yelled at her. "Don't make me use this. I'll thrust it through your heart. That'll kill you."

"Yes it would" she admitted. "And it would release my child in darkness as well. But what are the odds of that happening. I'm stronger and faster than you are little girl. "Stop calling me that!" I yelled at her.

"So feisty." She licked her lips. She looked at me coolly from head to toe, assessing me. "I think I'll play with you before I kill you. I might even play with your mind so that you'll enjoy it."

"Shut up!" I said reflexively. Too late I realized that if I made her angry she might think of something worse to do to me.

Then I heard the throttling of an engine. I turned and saw a car with no driver hurtle towards the vampire. Her attention had been so focused on me she didn't move in time and the grill of the car slammed square into her chest. The car sped forward moving so fast it crashed her into and through the fence of the tennis court. The car stopped abruptly but the vampire's momentum carried her into the net. I ran after her carrying the wooden sword even though it weighed a ton.

The vampire bounced out of the net and landed at the foot of the car. Part of my mind was trying to figure out how the car had stopped without a driver. Or how it had started for that matter. The other part of my mind focused on what I was going to do now that the vampire was down. I stood over her still carrying the sword.

She opened her eyes and looked up at me. "You don't have the guts."

I tried. I knew she was evil but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Not to kill her. I let the sword drop from my fingers. "No I can't" I said. Tears were leaking down my eyes but I couldn't bring myself to kill. Not even the undead. "you're such a girl" I could imagine Doug X saying in my mind.

The vampire stood up and arranged her skirt. She walked slowly towards me. She was battered but still terrifying. She smiled showing her extended fangs. I backed away from her. The knowledge that she was going to kill me seeped through my consciousness. I backed up past the front of the car as she came after me slowly.

"I'm going to pull off your limbs one by one. Than I'm going to play with your torso until you beg me to kill you. And then I'm going to make you one of my kind. An armless, legless vampire. And then I'm going to kill all of your friends. All because you lacked the stomach to stake me when you had the chance. You had too much conscience."

Abruptly the car door swung open and the window caught the vamp tramp right in the face. She fell to the floor, her nose twisted at an odd angle to her face.

"I don't" Mai said. She ran over and grabbed the wooden sword. It must have been twice her size as she leveled it forward like a lance. As the vampire began to stand up, coming to one knee Mai ran straight at her the sword pointed like a spear. It skewered the vampire through the heart.

"Oh shit" she said. And then crumpled into dust. Then we heard another scream from the woods.

"What are you doing you pervert!"

"But Carly!"

"Shut up. Did I give you permission to speak?"

"Well no but..."

"Then shut up!"

"Sounds like Carly's back to normal" I said to Mai. "How's Andy?"

"Pretty banged up but I think he's going to be okay. How about you?"

"Pretty shakey, actually." And I was, my legs were shaking and my hands were trembling as the after effects of adrenalin rush traveled through my body.

"That was very brave of you." She said.

"What not having the guts to save my friends?"

"No, facing that vampire by yourself with a weapon you didn't know how to use." "But I couldn't do it. I couldn't kill her not even to save my friends." I was sick at myself. What kind of person was I?

"That's okay. You're a good person, a gentle one. I'm glad you couldn't kill her. That makes you better than she was. Better than me too."

"No way. You saved the day. She deserved to die."

"I know. But I can't believe I did that. I was just so mad when I saw Andy in the car. With his face all bloody, I just snapped."

"But why couldn't I see you? It looked like the car was possessed or something." "It's Andy's car. I didn't have time to put a book or something on the seat."

"You mean..."

"Yeah, I can't see over the dashboard in his car. It's kind of embarrassing." From his tree Doug X began to blurrily return to consciousness. He saw Mai and Leslie walking hand in hand away from the tennis courts. That was cool in itself but something gnawed at him. "Did we win?" he asked.

"Yeah" I said "we won."

"Good" he said and passed out again falling face first into the dirt.

I laughed and smiled again. Yeah, good I thought. I squeezed Mai's hand. "We won." I said again.
