Okay - why do I write what I do?

I like to write.  And I have learned that there is nothing wrong, or pornographic, in writing stories with sex as a part of them.

I have written a few stories that could be considered sex stories - but I have withheld them, considering them to be unworthy. Then, having read Jeanne Brannesecca's excellent short stories, they made me react in a manner that I am certain that she did not count upon when she wrote them...

...and I concluded that my stories, warts and all, should be published.

For me, the key is this:  I emphasize the "stories" in alt.sex.stories - I prefer to read stories that contain sex when the sex isn't the whole show.  I like to see some scenery, as well as the interaction between two people before, and after, they enjoy sexual intercourse.  If I write a story, and I find that I have to specifically add sex to it, I discard it immediately.  (And there may be times where they do not enjoy it, for one reason or another - the interaction before and after is often the linchpin to understanding why.)   As they say, getting there is half of the fun...

Adhara Law's stories on ASSTR  are a prime example of what I mean by this.  In bookstores or libraries, The Stories of Eva Luna by Isabel Allende provide another excellent example.  Other authors that have provided some influence and inspiration (not necessarily on how to write erotica, but fiction in general)  include Marion Zimmer Bradley, Anne McCaffrey, Harry Harrison, Farley Mowat, Rex Stout, Georges Simenon, and (of course) D.H. Lawrence.  I can't name one definitive author of the Kama Sutra, but it also provided some influence.  And of course, if you're a bit confused, blame Alfred Hitchcock - a key influence of mine...

I prefer to write about one man and one woman and their relationship with each other, on more than a sexual level.  Certainly, it's hard to write erotica without some sex somewhere - I won't say that it is impossible, for someone will no doubt prove me wrong!

As for domination and submission, from what I have seen in real life, the dominance in any relationship between a man and a woman may be vested in only one partner.  But, it may also be situational - that is, in any given situation, in any relationship between a man and a woman, there is the potential for either partner to dominate in that particular situation.  In an entirely different situation, the roles may well be reversed.  The stories that I want to write have this situational dominance - for want of a better term, I'll call it mutual dominance.  That doesn't mean that I won't use the standard form of dominance and submission from time to time, either by design or by defect - I have much to learn...

The stories I write tend to be Hitchcockian in that I do give ample scope to the readers' imagination - as in the shower scene in Psycho, I do not get very explicit in these stories.  Because I like to use ambiguity from time to time, in order to let you, the reader, utilize the imagination, the coding of my stories is sometimes problematic.  So, when I list the appropriate codes, I'll try to explain my reasoning for my coding choice in brief detail, so that you have a clearer idea of where each story is going...

In any event, I hope that you will like these stories on some level. If they're not quite sexy enough for your taste (and you do not expect bestiality, BDSM, too much explicit violence, or very explicit sex), please give me time to grow - the stories that I have now are a starting point.
