I Feel Lucky by cmsix Chapter 55 Barbara did a great job with the big class, but she suggested we split up before Wednesday. We'd form two groups, one class Wednesday night and the other Thursday, and so on. "That will mean you have twice as many classes to teach, Barbara," I said, later. "It's about the same difference, and besides, I'll still only work about three hours a day, not actually even that much. I think I can bear up. It'll also help April, May, and June. After class is the favorite time for massages. "Even though not everyone wants one after every class, splitting up the times will still make it more manageable for them," she said. That was all fine, but I still felt like I was worn to a nub after our class, even with Jacky helping out and taking some of the get your ass kicked load off Jacob and me. June made me feel a lot better, and with an hour to settle down before bedtime I was in shape for some rocking to sleep. June was with me here too. I guess she earned my first attention with hers from the rubdown. It didn't put me to sleep, but she did require some serious rocking. About half way through I heard Joni's sexy voice whispering encouragement into my ear. I turned my face to kiss her but didn't miss a stroke into June. "Help me suck her nipples, Joni," I said, breaking the kiss. June groaned when Joni took the nipple closest to her and I took the other one. I gave mine a good sucking and then started to nibble. I guess Joni was worrying the other one pretty good too. June started trembling under me and then gripped my ass in her hands, pulling me to her harder. "Oh, she likes that. Look how they've swelled," Joni said. June went off without me then, gasping and panting and kissing at me. I kept my dick up her for another minute or two, then I gave her a parting kiss and moved over onto Joni. She had her legs spread wide in a flash and cooed that sexy voice into my ear while I pushed my dick up her hot slick pussy. "Oh God, it's still hot and wet from June. This is so nasty but you're making me love it. I've never kissed another woman's nipples before, especially not while someone was fucking her," she said, shivering. "Don't worry, you'll be an expert at it before long, meanwhile I think Laura and I are going to work on yours." I intended to, and Laura did latch onto one but Karita had wiggled her way in to take the other. Katrine saw my dilemma though and she furnished some titty for my lips. Joni was able to hold out better than June had and I gave her a load for her trouble. Barbara was between her legs sucking up the mess before I'd rolled completely off. Karita had moved too, and she told me to relax for a while as she sucked Junior clean. Karita woke me with her fine ass pumping her warm pussy up and down around Junior. I could come to like waking up this way. It was even better after she saw I was with her and leaned over so I could nurse a little. I didn't get any milk but I sure as hell enjoyed trying. Laura was awake too, though I hadn't noticed at first. Karita knew all about it though, because Laura was flicking her clitty and I learned later that she had a finger in Karita's back door. All that excitement caused Karita to finish before I did. I knew what inspired Laura when Karita slumped onto me and then rolled aside. Laura wanted Karita's seat. She took it, sliding her slick self down around me and pumping for come. She knew what she was doing and when her pussy started nipping at me with its inner muscles, I was a goner. Laura had time to finish too, and since there were no other applicants, she lay down on me and kissed me to sleep. I woke right at sunrise the next morning and it wasn't to someone riding my pony. It was Shelly, gently shaking my shoulder. "Get up, Jimmy. Mom told me to wake you," she said. I rolled her toward me and gave her a good morning kiss and then let my hands drift to some of her better assets. "No time for that. You need to get showered, dressed and down to breakfast, pronto," she said, kissing me once more and pointing toward the edge of the bed where Jacky and Ginny were standing, wearing only smiles. "How about my cologne. Don't I need to smell like you today?" I asked, hoping. "No, dammit, Mom said we should probably lay off that for a while. She thinks it's already had all the effect it's going to. Just get your cute ass out of bed, let the newbies wash and dress you, and get down to breakfast. I could think of worse ways to start the day, so I headed toward Jacky and Ginny and tried not to wake, or step on, anyone along the way. They took a hand each and led me across the hall to my sister's room and then into the shower. The three of us spent some quality time on hygiene and then they dressed me, in jeans and a work shirt this morning, with my redwings instead of the Dunns. "Your mother says you'll be hauling your first load today, so we have to dress you like a real truck driver," Ginny said, and when they'd done it they sent me on my way. Mom was waiting at the counter, and she was already nibbling on some breakfast. Kamakeata and Tolishanea were bright eyed and bushy tailed and they had an extra large plate piled high for me. After giving all three of them a good morning kiss, I sat by Mom and dug in. She had some instructions for me while I was eating. "First things first this morning, Jimmy. You did better yesterday than I could have ever expected. Do you realize that the business you picked up has every chance to be profitable with only a little overall direction? "Betty, Francis, Julian and Marsha all went over the books with Ginny last night. The four of them agree that a good tax accountant can probably turn the tables on the IRS, even without intervention from your father. "The debt service was also a hole they were bleeding money into and of course that will end today. You made a great find, in more ways than one," she said, smiling at me. "Well it was luck, I didn't have any idea about any of that," I said. "Just because you stumble onto something profitable by luck doesn't mean you don't get to keep the money it makes." "I see what you mean," I said. "Jerrilyn won't be wanting another riding lesson today either. She is still a little tender around one of the main things she uses to ride, as you correctly guessed," Mom said. "Now, there's a place I didn't have to guess. If you're riding right you're using muscles you don't have much use for otherwise. I knew she was going to be sore." "Well, she is. She thinks she can fly today and if she can, I'll let she and Gigi give some more rides. You and Bill are going to take Jacky to fetch the helicopter that is in pieces," she told me. "How do we fetch a helicopter?" "With your truck, of course. Bill said it would be good practice for you," Mom said. "I guess so, but I don't see how it can fit inside a trailer." "Bill is off in the truck now. I asked him about this last night and he said we'd need a skateboard to haul the helicopter." "A skateboard?" I asked. "That's what he said. He called George Baugus last night and George has four that are exactly alike, and top quality. He gave Bill the details and I just bought them all. Bill will be back with one shortly," Mom said, explaining. "I bought the airport that Jacky, Jerrilyn, and Gigi were working from too. I had Marsha call around to see if it was worth what they were asking and she found out that the land would soon be worth nearly double what they wanted. Of course the current owners aren't aware of that," Mom said, grinning again. Didn't that beat all? Grown men were fucking around every day, trying to make money and I was making a bunch by accident. Surely it wouldn't last. I didn't mind it going on as long as it could though. "Don't forget that Chucky baby will be here to get started today. I don't know if you'll need to make decisions about any of that or not. Remember to take your cell. I've given Ginny and Jacky theirs too, but only Jacky will be going with you." "OK, just call if you need me." "Mom, where is Jacob. I didn't even see him at supper last night?" I asked, since it popped into my head. "That's why you're going to haul your first load today. Jacob, Sherry, Kim and Jenny picked up a load near Atlanta yesterday afternoon and took it to Jacksonville Florida. "Sherry said they could have been back by this morning if they'd teamed the driving, but she wanted Jacob to do it all, so they were going to get a motel room last night," Mom said. "Where did they find a load to haul?" "Sherry called a broker, whatever that is, and she said that she really lucked out. There was some mix-up and the driver who was supposed to pick it up couldn't get unloaded at his previous delivery place, or some such thing. "It was some type of valuable cargo that was going to be late. Sherry guaranteed the broker that they'd make it on time, then she got everyone in the truck and they left within fifteen minutes," Mom said. "That's too cool, I wonder what things like that pay? I don't even have any idea about that." "I do now, since I asked. Sherry was really happy about it. She said we'd get four dollars and twenty-five cents a mile, and that it was very good pay. Apparently, a lot of truck freight moves for less than a dollar a mile," Mom said. "Wow, it sounds like a pretty good deal for us. That should be somewhere around fifteen hundred bucks for one load. I know it isn't much compared to what the truck cost and all that, but it sounds pretty good for the first day we really used it." "Sherry seemed to think so, and she was going on about getting a load to bring back when she left. I think she and Bill know quite a few of these broker people from when he drove all the time," Mom said. "I think I'll ask him about it when he gets here. One thing I don't understand though, why did they get a motel to sleep? Why didn't they just use the sleeper?" I asked. "Even I know that but I can see why you might not think about it. There are five of them and only the one small bed. They went in the practice truck, remember?" "I didn't think about that," I said. "Right as they left, Sherry told Jacob he'd have to sleep in the truck so he wouldn't be tempted to stay up all night fucking. Only the women are sleeping in the motel," Mom said, and she laughed out loud this time. "Shit happens, and I don't guess it can always be good shit," I said, and laughed myself. We heard the truck pull up outside and then the air brakes made their noise. Bill came in with his coffee cup in hand a few minutes later. After the good mornings and a coffee refill he had some news about our wayward truck drivers. "Sherry called me this morning. The same broker got her a load coming back and it pays three ninety. She's doing all the good booking loads this week. They even agreed to pay her seventy-two cents for the deadhead miles since they're so long," Bill said. "Switch back to English, Bill. What are deadhead miles?" Mom asked. "Miles you have to run empty to get to the next pickup. The load is in Miami," he said. "I'm assuming that you mean seventy-two cents per mile for these deadhead miles," Mom said. "Right. I feel sorry for the poor driver that couldn't get unloaded to make it in time for these two trips. The load in Miami comes right back here," he said. "Is that important?" I asked. "Very important. No one is going to pay you to go home empty. These brokers would have never even considered paying deadhead miles at all if they hadn't had their asses in a bind to cover the delivery. "You have to take loads that go where the freight is wanted and where the truck and driver need to be is not much of a consideration to the people that want the goods moved. "If the load back had delivered in Savannah, they would have had to come back from there empty or else look for another load. Remember, it cost nearly as much per mile to run empty as it does loaded. "Are you ready to go pick up your first load?" he asked me. "I'm ready. Are we going to deadhead?" I asked, trying to be funny. "No, I found us half a load of post holes and half a load of sailboat fuel," Bill said. That made me understand why people wanted me to cut way back on the jokes that weren't funny. And that one didn't seem a bit funny to me. "I haven't missed my ride have I," Jacky asked, coming down stairs in a different jump suit than yesterday's. "We wouldn't leave without you. I don't know a damned thing about loading a helicopter," Bill said. "Have you had breakfast?" I asked her. "Yes, I was up and moving around before I had to hose you down," she said. "Let's go then," Bill said, and we left. I'd forgotten to ask Bill about the skateboard and when I got outside I was glad. It probably saved hearing another stupid truck driver joke. When I saw the flatbed trailer I realized what it must mean. "Nice, a spread axle Ravens, it looks brand new," Jacky said, when she saw it. "Oh, have you done some trucking," Bill asked her. "A little, I learned in the marines and when I got out I drove for about six months, until I made enough to buy a few tools and go into business for myself," she said. "How'd you like it," Bill asked. "The job was ok, but a whole lot of the other drivers are such ignorant assholes," Jacky said. "Ain't that the truth? I've heard it's a little better now since there's a lot more freight moving by truck and the pay is climbing," he said. "Drivers must be getting hard to come by. Most of the big companies have their own schools now. Even though I learned to drive trucks in the service, Schneider still gave me a couple of weeks of training before they put me in a truck," Jacky said. "Well, no matter what they pay now it can't match what you're making on this job," Bill said. "I'm not making anything. I'm here because Jimmy wants me here," Jacky said. "Didn't someone give you your check?" I asked. "Oh that. Marsha was really nice about it and tried to give me a check, but I wouldn't take it. What do I need money for? I'm yours now and if you want me to have something you'll get it for me." "What about clothes, or a car, or anything; if you want to buy something you'll need some money," Bill said. "I already have everything I want. If there's something Jimmy wants me to have he'll get it for me, end of story," she said, and made it sound like that was all the discussion she wanted to have about it. Bill took the hint and was quiet for a while. I got a big old lump in my throat and had to be quiet too. When we got to the place with the helicopter parts we went into a little office. The guy we met was happy we'd come so soon and he sent three men to help us get loaded. Since Gigi and Jerrilyn had said they'd bought parts, I expected to see boxes and boxes of assorted things and the frame of a helicopter. There weren't many boxes though; just a few, and they were mostly bolts or small fittings. There was one pretty big crate but that was about it. Basically, they had a big forklift put the helicopter on the flatbed trailer and they put the boxes inside where people would sit if it were flyable. After that they put the big crate behind the helicopter and were done. Bill had brought some chains, binders, nylon straps, and things like that to tie it on. Jacky took care of all that; she even did the tightening up since she said we might break something. We were headed back within an hour. The tricky part didn't occur to me until we were back to the little airport where Jerrilyn and Gigi had their office and Jacky had her shop. We didn't have a way to get the helicopter or the crate off. "I usually have to hire someone with a small crane or big forklift to come unload things like this," Jacky said. "Can you operate the equipment if you have it?" I asked. "Sure, that's no problem," she said. "Good, I want you to have something to unload with in case you need it. Do you know where I can buy it for you?" I asked. "See, Bill. Jimmy will get it for me if he wants me to have it," Jacky said, and grinned at him. "What are we gonna get to do it?" Bill asked. "I sure don't know; we'll let Jacky pick it out." "There're several things that will do the job. There isn't much weight involved. Cranes are ok, but they're usually a little awkward. "A big forklift can do it, but you have to have one that is pretty big and sometimes it's a bitch to maneuver them. I guess the best thing I've ever used for it was a big track-hoe, but I think they're probably the most expensive," she said. "That comes under the heading of somebody else's problem, like Dad's. Where can we find a track-hoe?" I asked, as if I knew what a track-hoe was. "Let's unhitch the trailer and leave it here, then I'll show you how to get to the best place to look for one," Bill said. "We can't go by the house without the trailer, you know that don't you?" I asked. "I know, I know. The house isn't on the way anyway." After we dropped the trailer, Bill directed me to a big heavy equipment sales place. There were machines all over and most of them were a lot bigger than the truck. In fact, when we drove up it made the truck feel small. Thank God no salesman came rushing out, and we were able to walk around the place and just look for a while. Jacky and Bill showed me what a track-hoe was and it wasn't nearly as exciting as it sounded. Actually, track-hoe wasn't the official name for it, not according to Caterpillar anyway. Officially it was a Hydraulic Excavator. The one Jacky liked was a three hundred thousand dollar model. She gulped when Bill let us in on that little tidbit. I figured maybe that's why it was called a 322 C L. I guessed the C L stood for Costa Lot, naw, probably not. "Bill, how will we ever get it home, or to the airport, or anywhere? That big thing can't go on our trailer," I said, and I knew I was close to whining. "That's why we came to Tom Doolin's little tractor emporium. Tom sells Load King heavy haul trailers too. Besides, he's the only one near here with enough money to keep this much inventory. I assumed you wanted to leave here with it." "You know me so well already," I said, and laughed. Things couldn't go along smoothly for long though. Lo and behold a salesman came out to see what we were looking for. He would have been better off if he'd stayed inside playing computer games or playing with himself, or doing just about anything. At least he ended up providing a little entertainment. He started off ok by introducing himself as Pete Johnson, and when we all admitted our names and shook his hand, he asked, "What can I help you with today?" "We'll take a 322C L excavator and a new Load King to haul it away," Bill said, and I guess he sounded a little cocky. No doubt Pete Johnson didn't think Bill was serious, and I guess I can understand that. I can't understand what made him nearly explode though. He went all red in the face and started yelling for us to get our low life asses off his lot, and almost screaming that his time was to valuable to waste on trash like us. He wasn't a real big guy but he wasn't a shrimp either, and for a second he looked like he might actually hit Bill. Jacky had already made sure he wasn't going to hit me, she'd moved up in front of me and I could tell that she was ready to jump up and kick something Johnsonish if he got much closer. Bill didn't say a word to the guy; he just took the cell phone out of his pocket and called someone. This move made the salesman calm down a little, but he still looked pissed. Someone must have answered at the other end, because Bill started talking into the phone. "I'm Bill Green and I'd like to speak to Tom," he said, and it made Pete Johnson shuffle his feet and look a little uneasy for some reason. "Hey, you thieving bastard, how's it going?" Bill said, into the phone and then listened for a minute. "Pretty good, I'm down on your lot now, as a matter of fact. I'm working for Jack Breslin now, and I brought his son Jimmy over to pick up a track-hoe and a lowboy," Bill said, and paused to listen again. "No, we didn't. Well, actually we did find a new track-hoe we wanted, but when Pete Johnson came out, he gave us a good cussing and told us to get our asses off his lot. It confused me, because I was pretty sure this was still your lot," Bill said, pausing again. "We'll wait for you then. Ok, I'll tell him," Bill said, and then he closed his phone. "Tom told me to tell you that you'd better be on your knees begging us to stay when he gets here," Bill said, smiling at Petey boy. I couldn't help it, I laughed when Pete dropped to his knees on the asphalt and did start begging us to stay. No doubt the message Bill relayed had sounded authentic. He didn't have to keep it up long though. One of the biggest men I'd ever seen in person came trotting out of the building. He must have been six foot five, at least, and he probably weighed close to three hundred pounds; it didn't look like much of it was fat either. The fun kept right on rolling along when he got to us too. "All right, Pete, get your disagreeable ass back inside. Hide somewhere so you won't piss anybody else off today. I'll have a little talk with you about this, tonight," the big man told him. He introduced himself to us then. He was Tom Doolin, and of course, the owner of the place. He and Bill were obviously old friends. "Where in the hell did you get him?" Bill asked, nodding at Pete's disappearing back. "Don't blame that turd on me, I didn't shit him. Glenda just had to have him, and being the cheapskate I am, I didn't pay anyone to kill him before they got married," Tom said. "I'm sorry if we've caused you any trouble, Mr. Doolin," I said, since I didn't want to be completely left out of things that seemed to be going well now. "I don't know who let him out of the office, but they're going to have a lot of explaining to do when I get back inside. I pretty much have to keep him around, but he knows he isn't supposed to be out here bothering customers. I'm surprised you didn't knock a little fire from his ass, Bill," Tom said. "I wasn't about to, I was hoping he'd make a threatening move toward Jimmy. I could see that his pet ex-marine was ready to fly off the handle at any second," Bill said, grinning. Now, it wasn't really funny, but it was close enough for a grin. I looked over to see how Jacky was taking it and she had what you'd call a shy smile on her pretty face. "I haven't asked her, but I've been told that knives are a particular favorite for Jacky," Bill said, still grinning. I saw Jacky move just slightly and all at once there was a long, wicked looking knife in her hand. I couldn't help wondering where she'd been hiding it. "Bill's been listening to the wrong people again. I haven't known him long, but I'm betting he does it often. I like sharp edges all right, but hand-to-hand combat is my specialty," Jacky said, and now she was grinning. "Do you mean that if I'd stayed in the office a few minutes longer there's a chance I could have been rid of him?" Tom said. "Probably, but there's no telling how long Jack Breslin would have kept suing you if any blood had splashed on Jimmy," Bill said, and they both laughed. Shit, I laughed too. It was funny. "Before you two get it too deep around here, can I buy a few things?" I said, knowing I was interrupting but not really caring. That got Tom's attention right away. "You sure can, what can I show you?" he asked. "I think we just need a total. Jacky's already found the track-hoe she'd like and Bill said you'd have a trailer that could carry it," I said. I guess that made him even happier, because he sure smiled big. He smiled even bigger when Bill told him which track-hoe we wanted. It was smooth sailing after that. I called Mom and she said she'd send Carolyn over with the check for three hundred and sixty thousand. Tom said his office would take care of getting the trailer registered and then we went back outside to get it loaded. Tom came with us and several other men met us at the trailer. One of them brought the machine over and they did most of the work. Tom just stood around trying to be friendly and kept telling us to call him if we wound up needing anything else. He gave us a number to call him directly and bypass the office. Watching the process of getting the track-hoe onto the lowboy was a trip. The gooseneck for the trailer came off, leaving the front edge nearly on the ground, and then they drove the hoe on and chained it down. The trailer had a little gasoline engine that ran a hydraulic system and lifted the front of the trailer with built in jacks. When it was up about eight or ten inches, they put the gooseneck back in place and let off on the jacks. After everything settled down we climbed into the truck and drove away. It was early afternoon by now, so we just went home with the new toy. I was expecting to be another big point of interest when I got there with this thing, and Bill made me drive, but we were the ones shocked when we arrived. There were big trucks everywhere, and there were even a few state police cars parked around with officers out directing traffic. Well, they were mostly just watching what was going on by now. Good old Chucky baby hadn't been lying about this. He was right out there in front of the house, with dozens of men around him and he was giving directions with both hands, lots of directions. Luckily for us, Mom must have had a talk with the police already. There were barricades in front of the house, saving us a place to park right behind the practice truck. I recognized one of the officers I'd seen out at the scale house and I guess he recognized the truck, because he called for some men to move the barricades and motioned for me to pull up and park. It wasn't the easiest thing in the world, but with Bill giving directions I got the big thing parked without knocking anything down with the wide track-hoe. Even Bill was a little amazed at all the stuff going on when we got out. I didn't know what to look at first and I finally decided to go in the house and try to get a grip. Bill and Jacky came with me but I'm sure they were having just as hard a time keeping their mouths from gaping open as I was. The first two people I saw when I walked into the house were George and Jeff, the network administrator and hardware geek from Dad's office. They were fooling around with some type of wire, putting little plastic ends on it. The plastic things looked almost like telephone wire plugs but they were too big for that. Mom came out from near the kitchen about then and when she saw us, she dragged us right back the way she'd come. Chapter 56 Back to story Index Back to cmsix Index |
