Lotion

"Lotion," said the tall woman.  She held the plastic bottle out towards Susan.  "Just the place on my back where I can't reach.  I mean, if you don't mind." She smiled. Susan, somehow compelled, took the bottle.  The tall woman had turned to face the lockers.  Two-piece, bold aqua, expensive.  Thong-style.  Susan rubbed the cream in circles.  Pale golden skin tight over the ridges of the tall woman's spine.  Slender legs.  Bottom rounded, firm.  "I'm Erica," she said, "I'd offer to return the favor but...." She gazed at Susan's conservative, dark one-piece.

They lay on pool chairs, eyes closed behind sunglasses.  The heat lay heavily on them, palpable, draining, sensuous.  Days passed.  They talked. Work, vacations, clothes, men.  Susan, still unattached a few months after a break-up.  Erica had a boyfriend.  Funny, sure of himself, she said, and incredibly good in bed. "He wants to do everything," she giggled.  Susan did not ask.  What could she offer in return about her own sex life, that now seemed drab?  That night, almost asleep, she whispered: everything.  Her hand drifted down over her body.  Between her thighs she discovered the moisture already there.

"New suit," Erica said.  Susan's bikini was black, modest. "It was on sale." "I like it.  But be careful about the sun." Erica poured lotion into her palm, rubbed it on Susan's back, shoulders.  "Turn," Erica said.  She started to rub lotion onto Susan's belly, so white in contrast with her legs. "That's okay," Susan said nervously.  "I can do it."

The air less humid now, the sun piercingly bright.  Erica turned face down. "Could you put a little more on my back." Susan, sitting, hesitated a moment. "Oh, God," Erica giggled, "It doesn't show, does it?" "What" "On my bottom.  He spanked me again last night.  We got a little carried away.  I thought there might still be...." Involuntarily, Susan caught her breath, swallowed.  "Spanked you?" "Yeah, it's something we do sometimes." "But doesn't it hurt? "Um hmm," Erica said teasingly.  "When he uses his belt, sometimes it'll leave a mark." A pause.  "Are you shocked" "No.  I mean, yes, I guess so.  You mean he used his belt last night?" "Um hmm."

That night, Susan dug through the drawer of winter sweaters to find her vibrator.  Her orgasms were swift and powerful.

"Are you sure?" asked Erica. "Yes." Susan sat on the couch beside her. "All right then." Erica gently pulled Susan down across her lap, eased down the bottom of her bikini.  She began slowly, then harder.  "Such a naughty girl," she said, a smile in her voice.  Susan groaned, writhed, crushed her mons against the tall woman's thigh.

They lay on the bed, languid, spent.  Susan's fingers trailed over the small white triangle, the only untanned place on Erica's body.  "My bottom's still on fire," she giggled. "Turn over." Susan's full bottom, upturned, bright pink, felt cool moisture, Erica's soothing fingers.  "That feels so good," she said. "Lotion," said the tall woman.

Calm, spare language.  Blatant sensuality, coming across all the more strongly because the language is understated. This is a sketch, stronger in its own way than a highly detailed painting.  Evocative.  Maybe even a little wicked.

As one might guess, I really liked it.

Bird describes seduction process and growing attraction between two women like it was him spreading the lotion on a beautiful woman's body, like it was him going deeper and deeper into that relationship, like it was him spanking and being spanked. This story's attraction is in the way it awakens your empathy - in the end you should be wondering if in fact one of the women in the story is really _you_. Never mind if you're a man.
