Jenny slammed the door of her car and raced towards her apartment.  Of all the days to get stuck in traffic -- especially with her boyfriend, Tim, coming over for a "play" date.

Jenny had carefully nurtured her relationship with Tim, who proved to be sensitive, caring, but almost totally vanilla.  When she'd first confessed her secret desires, he'd been repulsed.  He could never hurt a woman, he claimed.  It took some fast talking by Jenny, and an outright lie, to keep him from walking out right then.

She finally told him that she found the spankings playful and stimulating, not at all painful.  Jenny managed to keep up this facade through her first few sessions, constantly reassuring Tim that, no matter how red her bottom got, he wasn't hurting her.  (She felt thankful that she didn't mark easily.) Later, when he'd gotten used to spanking her, she'd come clean about the pain.

That was the plan, anyway, Jenny thought as she unlocked the apartment door.  Sure, she and Donna, her roommate, sometimes played with each other; but getting spanked by (and spanking) another woman was one thing.  Getting spanked by a man -- especially a man like Tim -- was quite another.

Jenny opened the door and stepped inside.  She caught sight of Tim and Donna sitting on the living room sofa.  "Hi, guys!  Sorry I'm late --" she started, then cut herself off.  Tim sat with a dour frown on his face, holding the paddle they'd planned on using that night.  Donna curled up beside him.  She grinned sheepishly at her roommate.  The temperature in the room felt a few degrees about absolute zero.

"Jenny," Tim said, his voice strained but level, "sit down, please.  We need to talk." Donna muttered a hasty "Excuse me" and fled to the sanctuary of her room.

Oh, no, Jenny thought.  Nothing good ever came after that phrase, "We need to talk." She took a seat on the sofa next to Tim, who sat silently for a few moments, staring at the paddle, before facing her and starting to talk.

"While we were waiting for you," he explained, "Donna and I were fooling around.  She smacked me with the paddle.  It hurt, Jenny.  I mean, it really, really, hurt."

Damn.  He wasn't ready for that.

"I could only do this if I thought I wasn't hurting you," Tim continued.

"Now that I know how painful it really is, I ... I can't.  I just can't.  I'm sorry."

Jenny looked down at her hands.  There didn't seem to be anything to say.

"Here." He handed her the paddle and got to his feet.  "Er -- I'll call you."

Yeah, right, Jenny thought, listening to the door shut behind him.  Right after the next blue moon.  She tapped the paddle against the palm of her free hand.  Sometimes being a switch came in handy.  "Oh, Donna," she called, heading for her roommate's bedroom.

This is a nicely flowing story that is a easy read. The author does a good job of establishing the dynamics of this relationship and the end of it. This is a character that the reader can feel for and relate too. And best of all the end is funny, and makes the reader smile at the justice of it all.

Classic rise of action as tension builds about a coming conversation, which it's clear has been too long coming. The ending is a poignant surprise.

Kent's story had a very nice blend of description and dialogue. I really liked the tension between Tim and Donna and was surprised at the cause of it. My one regret is that the 500 word limit prevented us from seeing Donna get what she deserved for causing so much trouble!
