SPRING

(Reviewed as Performance Art)

who knew winter as we did
warm beneath our protection
would require a dropkick in the butt
to induce (a none too premature) labor

rushed to emergency in greatest pain
water breaking everywhere
(hugely expectant mother) nature
as natural as might be (expected)
(no drugs here, by God!)

all prefunctory (required) moves
performed in the short program
launched into an impromptu quickstep
(Green Apple), a stunning French
Quadrille (containing) not one but
two (attempted) cartwheels
und one large whoop

waddeled into May’s turn to tea
(not too profound but trez moe-durn
as she nodded and winked at Finnigan)
then with no more than a hey-noney
climaxed (brillantly) as out popped
spring

the child (most beautiful) it was;
(it was) played to perfection
(the nuance of subtle surprise,
vague but not too indifferent)
as if new life was the guarantee
of a (much) greater promise
(someone) somewhere (onetime)
confirmed, sweet Jesus

we look forward to more
from this promising artist
