You ask me why I love you
And I realize that I have
Erred to think that I could
Worthy e'er be found for
The love of one like you

Yet I this love cannot dismiss
Nor can I see a world without
You in my every waking thought

Before your entry to my life
The world with grey and pall
Didst plague my melancholy
Soul and cast my heart into a
Dismal sea of endless tears

But you poured out the chalice
Of my grief and bade my tears
Bring nurture to my arid life

And now the flowers all
Around me bloom and minstrel
Song does fill the air-only I
Have remained a vile wretch
Undeserving of your love

My only wish: to be near you
For like the moon, my heart
Shines silver in your light
