Stick-ups
> > "Hey there."
"How'd you find me?"
"Never mind that. No, don't look."
"You could have just stopped by the apartment."
"I don't like the way your neighbor looks at me."
"Which neighbor? The woman with the crew cut?"
"No. The gay welder."
"Sheldon? He's harmless."
"Maybe to you. I think he has designs on me."
She giggled.
"Cut that out."
"Well, you found me. What do you want? I got stuff to do."
"You've barely touched your smoothie. Or did you get all your pills down with the first sip?"
"Shut up."
"Listen, it's been almost a week. How's it going with Sinclair?"
"What kind of a girl do you think I am?"
"Young, beautiful, and motivated. He doesn't stand a chance."
She appreciated the vote of confidence, if not the way he was pushing her.
"He's picking me up later. We're going out." Turned out the Kat Incident wasn't a total disaster.
"Good. I need you to bug his place."
"No way."
"Look. The whole point of you getting close to him is to connect him to the crime."
"You've got his picture."
"That and two bucks will get me a smoothie."
"$3.89."
"Damn. No wonder you're broke."
She wasn't anymore, but... okay, actually she was after paying off Noel, but she was dancing again Saturday, and then she wouldn't be. Anyway, Zora paid for the smoothie.
"I can't bug his place. He'll find the bugs. And he'll know it was me."
"No he won't. This is the latest stuff. Really small. Guy in Surveillance owes me a favor."
Who *didn't* owe Miguel a favor? "Dino is very meticulous. He'll find it."
"Big word. Your new boyfriend teach it to you?"
"Shut up."
"Such sass today. Fine. We'll talk about how to stick it to him with stick-ups later. Go through his place, see if you can find anything."
Stick-ups? What was he talking about? "When am I gonna do that?"
"When he leaves you there alone."
"He won't."
"He will. Trust me."
"Fine. What am I looking for?"
"Files. Records. Little black books with numbers in 'em -- phone numbers, dates, amounts. Anything business-related."
"And when I find them?"
"Take pictures of them. Make sure they're in focus. Or make copies. I can get you a portable copier."
"Pictures will have to do. *If* I find anything. Which I won't. He's very careful."
"You almost sound like you're defending him."
"Shut up."
"Just don't do anything stupid like fall in love with the guy. Call me when you get something. Soon. Oh yeah, and get a cell phone."
