Drops of Jupiter

By TonyJ

The sun glistened off her skin as she stepped from the water. She looked like sex, bottled and marketed for the masses. I thought back to the last time I had seen her.

"I want us to see other people."

"Why? Is there something about *US* that isn't working for you?"

"Not really. I just feel there is more out there for me. Don't you ever feel like you are missing out on some cosmic event?"

"No. The only cosmic event I need is you in my life."

"Well... I am sorry. I need more!"

Five years. Five long lonely fucking years.

I knew better than to talk to her. I would just rip the scabs off the wounds that were inflicted in that time. Then again, I had never been known for my self preservation.

As I moved from group to group, across the pool area, I remembered her scents, her voice, and her quirky little habits.

The song "Drops of Jupiter" by Train came to mind. Sighing inwardly, I re-examined my need to talk to the woman who owned the deed to my soul and life. Did I really care what she had found? Do I really want to involve myself in a life with her again? Had she found what she was looking for?

As I got closer to her lounge chair I could see the sharks circling in. Those men whose goal in life was the conquest of the next woman in their sights. Moving quickly, I slid into the lounger next to her and whispered in her ear.

"Did you find yourself out there?"
