Here is the story of this story, as best as I can determine it from what records exist. I'll try to avoid any spoilers in the following. First pay attention: I am not the author of this story. At best I deserve some credit for my work in editing it and converting to html so that more people can read it more easily, but I am not the author of this story.
The story was created and written by a writer going by the pseudonym Randu (not Randy!), or alternately as The Great Randu, and posted to newsgroup alt.sex.stories in 1994 under the title Double Trouble. The original story was written about a man and two twin boys. That story is (or was, at the time I wrote this) available on asstr-mirror.org, PZA archive, here if you want to read it either because of or despite it being about two boys.
The story got the attention of a writer going by the pseudonym Wayward One, who rewrote the entire story to be about a man and two girls instead. He kept the plot and details close to the original story, but changed (most of) what needed to be changed for the new characters. Wayward One tried to get permission from Randu to post his rewritten version, by posting to alt.sex.stories and to alt.sex.stories.d (the "d" stands for "discussion" of the stories in the main newsgroup), but was unable to contact him. Rather than waste his work, he assumed permission and posted his version of the story under the title Twice The Fun sometime after the original story and before January 1995, giving credit to Randu for the original story, and claiming only credit for rewriting it.
Randu noticed the new story, and the two writers emailed and posted to the newsgroup(s), reaching an understanding that Randu wasn't too upset by the copy, so long as no one got the idea that he liked girls, and so long as the new version wasn't posted under the title Double Trouble, and especially not the horrid title Double Trouble: the girl version (as someone had already done).
Numerous copies of Twice The Fun have been saved by numerous people who loved the story. Many of those people rudely reposted it to the newgroup giving no credit to either writer, instead stripping off all credits and posting the story as "author unknown" (a complete lie). Some of the copies archived on asstr-mirror.org are like that. One is even in a Collection named "Unknown_Author"!
Worse still, though deserving some credit, the twin-girls version, Twice The Fun, was completely translated into french (that must have been quite a labor of love for an excellent story!), but then posted with the former title that Randu had requested not be used, and to add insult to injury, was posted as "auteur: inconnu" ("author unknown" in french) rather than giving credit to either writer, despite the translator obviously knowing the original name of the story. If you want to read it in french despite the double discourtesy of renaming it back and giving no credit to the author (either one), it is (or was) available here.
All newsgroup versions were written and posted in text-only form, with all of the limitations that required (such as THIS STYLE OF EMPHASIS instead of these others). As noted above, an html version of Double Trouble exists and benefits from html enhancements. Now, 27 years after the first appearance of the story, I have taken it upon myself to convert Twice The Fun from its text-only version to html. This, too, was a labor of love, requiring many hours of work. I've done this respectfully, and hope that I've not offended either Randu or Wayward One (wherever they might be), but in the process of editing to use html, I have corrected some "slips, glitches, and jagged edges" that remained in Wayward One's rewrite so that it will flow more smoothly with two twin girls instead of boys. I have also corrected all of the typos that I found, without looking to see where they originated.
My intent in creating this version is to correct everything that should be corrected, so that there will finally exist a version of Twice The Fun that:
Once I decided to do all that, the best I could possibly do, so it wouldn't need to be done again, I started to find a lot more things that needed to be fixed, and it started taking up a lot more time. Things like looking up "Sear's Tower" (nope, it's Sears Tower, but it isn't called that anymore, but it was, but it isn't the tallest building in the world anymore, but it was), etc. The task of editing a story that deserved to be perfect turned out to be huge, because there are so many details to be checked and corrected to be perfect. For example, one place said "when Tammy returned" but in Twice The Fun Tammy hadn't gone anywhere, and it took me half an hour to figure out that it was another 'jagged edge' that had to be fixed. And no one in Chicago would have given them their "sodas" so that had to be fixed, and on and on it went like that. Then the index looked rather barren, and I had to come up with chapter titles that related to the story but weren't spoilers. I'll probably keep finding more details to fix, as I reread it from time to time.
In the midst of all that other work, I found myself changing things that one or the other writer had put in, like words that I'd always found a little off-putting in other stories, like bald and hairless, or that were fine for boys but not girls, like crotch and groin and underpants, or were fine for teens but not the pre-teens that make this story what it is. Now I suppose some people will be upset at me for putting too much of my own imprint on the story, as if I'd restored a Van Gogh painting but moved or removed a fruit I didn't think he should have put there. Sorry, but I hope my contribution from editing errors like all of the above balances out any complaints some people might have. I crafted the best version of the story that I could. Bottom line is: I made far less drastic changes to the story, obviously, than Randu had already forgiven Wayward One for, and far less changes to Wayward One's story than he had done in creating it. And anyone who doesn't like what I did can always go read the previous versions, since I can't delete them from the internet and wouldn't even if I could. And by the way, I tried to contact both Randu and Wayward One before working on this, but no one I know knows how to find either of them.
Besides the terminology, I changed a few things (very few) that could have been left the same, since they weren't technically errors, but I felt that those minor changes were improvements. The biggest such change was the poster. I've been unable to find any proof that there ever was a U2 poster showing a "bare-chested" boy, only bare-shouldered. And I've been unable to find any proof that there ever was a Prince poster with a girl standing over Prince with her hands on her head. The only one I found resembling it was clearly a woman standing over him, only her legs and high high heels showing. Not only did they not exist as described, as far as I can find, but the posters that did exist wouldn't have embarassed anyone no matter who saw them. Therefore, I changed it to a poster that actually existed and would have actually made someone nervous for outsiders to find in his home, which suits the story better. I know that poster really existed, because I used to have one - for one or two days - before I took it down out of caution.
What gave me the nudge to finally do this work was seeing the story Twice The Fun featured as a 'lost story' on Alvo Torelli's page, Lost Story of the Week. It was marked as "author unknown" and I could fix that.
Respectfully,
Georgie Porgie

Something about how I wasn't really all that pissed at you (but was more upset with the guy that was gonna "add" to DT), that I appreciated your efforts to find out who the original author was, that I was surprised about you having gotten more than 800 responses... Anyways...you know, I guess what really upsets me most about all of this is that some of these hundreds of people may now think that The Great Randu likes.......... GIRLS!!!!!!! ACKKKKKKK!!!!!!!! I wanted to expand/modify a story called Advanced Biology Lab, that I found on the Louvre (a while back, obviously). The author was listed as Linda Loring, with no email address. I was arguing with myself a few months ago about whether to post my version, when the story was reposted - with a different woman given credit for the SAME story. So, I reposted the original 16kb version, with credit given to Linda Loring. And then posted MyLab 43kb, with a notice at the beginning stating where I got the intro to the story from. People can read the original and my take on it, and see where I modified/bastardized it. Mike aka Studpuppy mjvoice---@---snet.net

One reason the guy who re-wrote "Double-Trouble" into Twice the fun" didn't credit Randu, is the person who posted the story to where he first saw it, did a worse thing that re-writing the story. He removed the name of the author. Thus the person who re-edited had no way to contact or credit the original author. He DID acknowledge that he wasn't the author, thogh a few people (like me) wondered how he managed to make things work so well, in what was supposed to be origiinally a male-male story. Then Randu pointed out to me some of the slips, and I could see where there were a few jagged edges. Still, (being primarily heterosexual) I enjoyed the mf version more than the mm one. I'm eternally grateful to Randu though, for doing the original work. His is one of the VERY few mm stories I have on my hard-drive. (A few months ago, it got lost, when my hard-drive went bye-bye, and I was almost sick, because I wanted BOTH copies.) Now I have it agian. . . Thanks. > ALthough he did state that he was >not the author of the original story in his posting of TTF, and when >complimented on the conversion he did give credit where credit was due. >Unfortunatly, someone has now reposted "Double Trouble: The Girl Version". >The damage has been done, but if Twice The Fun is going to continue >circulating (as I'm sure it will) I'd much rather see it go around as TTF >and not DT The Girl Version. >-Randu I second the motion. If there's going to be a male-female version going around, for heaven's sake call each by it's original name, and NOT confuse things by calling one the mm version, and the other the mf version. Too often, somone might download or copy one over the other, thinking it's the same story, and blow-away the version he or she really wants. Besides, "Double-Trouble" FITS the male-male version better somehow, while I like "Two Times the Fun" better for the male-female version. Why confuse things more than they are already? One complaint that "The Great Randu" didn't mention about the conversion, was one he told me; and it's a valid one, completely outside of plagarism. Someone might mistakenly get the idea that he likes girls. ;-} If somebody rewrote one of my stories over to male-male, (They have my complete permission.) it wouldn't bother ME so much, as male-male doesn't turn me off; it just doesn't turn me on all that much. With somebody who's more DC than AC, I can see it mattering a lot more. Much as I appreciate The Great Randu for writing the original "Double Trouble" story, I sure don't want to throw away my copy of "Twice the Fun" just because I have the original. . . I enjoyed it too much. I DO hope that anytime someone posts "Twice the Fun" from now on, that they at least post "Double Trouble" along with it, along with Credit to Randu. (It would be kind of nice to credit the translator too, but he seems to have dropped out of the net for now.) Uh, would it be OK to say, "Thanks Randy" ? Or would that be to familiar. BTW, Celeste, I think you were a little too hard on the translator. I saw the original post, and he actually DID ask in the newsgroups for the addresses of the authors of the stories he re-wrote before he posted them. Not only that: he never claimed they were anything BUT re-writes. Finally, I found "Twice the Fun" (or it it "Two times the Fun" ?) to be very enjoyable, and never noticed the glitches until Randu so kindly pointed them out to me. If it hadn't been translated, I probably never would have enjoyed the story, as I pass over most male-male stories. I must admit too, that reading it was partly responsible for encouraging me to write "Two Much". Thanks again. _____ / ' / ,-/-, __ __. ____ /_ (_/ / (_(_/|_/ / <_/ <_
