Folded Flag

codes: grief, poem
by Jack C Lipton
(Main Page)

A folded flag
a soldier gone
the father lost
the soul sublime

The wife alone
the daughters cry
the sons adrift
the earth abides

The life is lost
through many borne
the echoes ring
the spirit torn

The sense of life
forever lost
the soul goes on
not seen by us

A gift of life
for us enriched
for we have known
a life well-lived.
