I didn't bother knocking on the door. I just opened it and walked right in. Mitchell happened to be standing there when I barged in. I looked him straight in the eye.
"I don't really care if your sister is a witch. I love her. I will probably always love her. THAT is what's important."
I never waited for his response, but instead just pushed past him to see Miranda sitting up on the sofa, her eyes trained on the hallway where I was standing. She looked a little shell-shocked.
I walked over and kneeled down at her side. Reaching up, I pushed her hair behind one ear and looked deep into her eyes.
"I love you, Miranda." It was all I could say. It was everything I had to offer.
With a loud sniffle, Miranda launched herself into my arms, tumbling us backwards. In between tiny kisses pressed to my face I heard her say, "I love you too, Adam."
Sometimes that's the best magic of all. Happy Halloween to me.
