This un-descriptively-named story was first started in 2006. Back then, I wasn't good enough to write it. I wouldn't entirely say that I'm good enough to write it now either, looking at its quality, but it is done and it could've been a lot worse. Plus, I'm proud of it because it's the first substantial anything I got written in 2009. (At this rate, it may also be the last. I've been busy.)

This story is also relatively unique: I wrote it without any discussions or outside help. Normally, there's a small stable of friends I consult when I need a new perspective on any given topic. This story was written without me consulting any of them, ever, which is the first time I've done that this decade. ...That's probably why it's so bad. Having said that, reader feedback has been extensive—more so than to any other story I've written, or so it seems to me—and immediate thanks go to fellow SOL author harrison0978, who helped bring about rapid improvement in Part 2, and eventual improvement in Part 1 whenever I get round to rewriting it. Thanks also to steveh11 for catching a bizarre punctuation error in Part 3, a factual one in Part 6, and a spelling one in Part 13. And, of course, to the mega-awesome Rick in Eureka MO, for corrections everywhere.
