Alif
![]() |
Alif
is a country quite unlike any you may have visited but a great deal
like all of them. It is a land where the State runs the brothels, but
where many liberties are proscribed. In this land, Ana takes up
employment as a secretary in a State brothel, but finds out as much
about
herself
as about
the others who work there. She falls in love with Binta, a woman
sentenced to serve in the brothel for the crimes of lesbianism and
alcohol possession. Needless to say, the course of true love does not
run smooth.

The Anomaly Trilogy
Vol. 1
![]() The Battle for the Known Unknown |
Paul
had never believed that he could qualify for
passage aboard
the Interplanetary Space Ship Intrepid on its mission across the Kuiper
Belt to investigate the unknown entity known as the Anomaly that lies
beyond the edge of the Solar System. Neither has anyone who
has ever met him.
But notwithstanding his evident unsuitability, Paul and his new wife Beatrice are passengers on a voyage beyond the solar ecliptic in the company of the ship's crew, the Solar System's most expert scientists and its bravest soldiers in one of the largest and most sophisticated space ships ever built. The Anomaly Trilogy
Vol. 2
![]() The Schemes of the Unknown Unknown |
Surely
this is exactly what Beatrice was always meant to be. She had
in Paul a loving faithful husband. She had as many other lovers as she
might desire. And most of all she was playing a crucial role
in the Space Ship Intrepid’s
quest for the Anomaly. How could it ever be better for
her?
But Beatrice’s moment of glory and the success of the Intrepid’s mission is under threat from shadowy and mysterious entities whose very existence has not even been suspected. In fact, so unknown are these threats that they are known not even to Beatrice. The quest to discover the truth about the Anomaly and the bizarre Apparitions that it has spawned is at risk from the schemes of unknown forces with immeasurable wealth, uncharted scientific knowledge and immense technological expertise. Captain Kerensky loses all authority over the Space Ship Intrepid as it faces almost certain extermination. Great anonymous forces manoeuvre to both defend and sabotage the mission. And in all this, Mission Control remains only marginally less clueless about the threats to the mission than the crew and passengers of the Intrepid. And of all of them, none rivals Paul in his degree of ignorance regarding the schemes of the Unknown Unknown. (2010-2013) |

The Anomaly Trilogy
Vol. 3
![]() Into the Unknowable |
The
voyage of the Space Ship Intrepid is approaching its end. Will the
nature of the Anomaly at last reveal itself? This is a question of
paramount importance to Vashti and Beatrice, and in which there is no
greater stake. For Captain Kerensky, the success of the mission is
measured more by the well-being of the Intrepid's crew and passengers.
Whereas Paul remains blissfully ignorant and unaware
of almost everything around him and expects to play no greater part in
the success of the mission than he already
has.
There are many obstacles between the Space Ship Intrepid and the resolution of its mission. There are many millions of kilometres to travel; an unknown space fleet waiting to sabotage the Intrepid's progress; and most of all the sheer difficulty of exploring an Unknowable entity. Not only can the Anomaly not be analysed from outside, there is no evidence that even a journey into its interior is likely to be useful or successful in any way at all. But notwithstanding such obstacles, the greatest forces in the Universe are determined to resolve the greatest problem ever known. And perhaps also eliminate the greatest threat to the Universe's survival. (2010-2014) |

Crystal Passion
![]() |
It
is the 1990s and Crystal Passion and her band are on tour in America.
In those days, they were nothing like as famous as they are
now and nobody could guess how they might be received. Would this be
the
tour that broke them in America? Or
would America break
them?
Neither Crystal Passion nor her band were likely candidates to be the new Beatles or Rolling Stones of a fresh British Invasion. For a start, all members of the band were women. For another, the music they played wasn’t really Rock or Pop or much like anything else out there. They didn’t have the support of a large record label and they weren’t even especially well-known in the UK. But as Pebbles, the band's keyboard player, recounts even though the ultimately disastrous American tour was memorable for all the wrong reasons, Crystal Passion would eventually gain the posterity and fame that eluded them at the time. Degrees of Intimacy
![]() |
Eight
characters, eight places, eight degrees of separation, and eight
degrees of
intimacy. This novella is inspired by the film
La Ronde
that
similarly
follows a circular trail of lovers, but this time in the twenty-first
century
and much more explicit in content. All eight chapters can be read in
isolation,
but the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Glade and Ivory
![]() |
This
is the story of the shaman, Glade, and her apprentice,
Ivory. It is the tale of two women’s
lives in Ice Age Europe and Africa. Glade is forced
to
abandon an idyllic childhood in the tropical forests and
eventually becomes shaman of a tribe of Mammoth Hunters in the
frozen north. Following the death of her parents, Ivory becomes
apprenticed to the shaman and learns more about the world than she’d ever believed
possible.
Life
in the Ice Age isn’t
easy. It isn’t
only due to the frozen climate in which Mammoths and Cave
Lions
thrive where humans struggle to survive. There are people from
the Mammoth Hunters’
tribe
and beyond who are keen to take advantage of a shaman from
another
land and an apprentice who is as yet innocent of the ways of the world.
But through it all, Glade
and Ivory are determined to succeed thanks to
the shaman’s
bitterly earnt knowledge of human custom and nature’s trials.

No Future
![]() |
This
is a future history of England over the Twenty-First Century
and into the next. It is a multi-threaded narrative that
travels from
place-to-place, succeeds from year-to-year, and passes from one person
to another. England's green and pleasant land is visited by
famine, plague, war and pestilence. Governments come and go. The ocean
levels inexorably rise. International relations worsen. And the English
people stumble through the chaos as best they can.
Alex makes a successful career in the media and stumbles through a trail of unsuccessful relationships. Iris endures a decade of authoritarian government. Lindiwe relies on the generosity of a nation made less kind. Tamara follows the Second Diaspora. Olive discovers that however hard she falls, there is still further to go. But however bad it gets, fortunes will still be made and power wielded by businessmen, politicians and aristocrats. Who said there was No Future? (2010-2013) |

Omega
![]() |
Omega
returns the adult reader to the world of childhood imagination: a world
populated by the fantastic, the fabulous and the thoroughly improbable.
But a world where adult concerns of poverty, injustice, prejudice,
politics and economics are all too real. In this world, the reader is
taken on a search for the Truth in a more literal sense than one would
expect. On the way, the reader meets characters familiar to childhood
who confront this question with different formulations and very
different solutions.
