I looked around the classroom. Everything seemed normal for the History class. Teacher was trying to teach to the few students who were actually listening while the kids in the back row were talking loudly. Some were texting and then there were the ones like me, who were drawing doodles in notebooks, or on desk tops, or their own hands. Everyday it's always the same, the only thing that ever changes in my daily life is my hyperactive best friend with a hero complex, thirteen-year-old Martina, better known as Tina. She always manages to make every day a little bit different from the others by doing a heroic act that usually ends up with us getting in trouble in some way or another.
I've known Tina since kindergarten and I always thought of us as really close friends. However, for a while now, I've realised that I saw Tina as more than a friend. Yes, I have a crush on her and I don't exactly know how it happened, but one day the feeling just sunk deep within my heart. There's only one thing that's stopping me from telling her my feelings and it isn't the fact that I'm worried sick that our friendship will be ruined or that she's popular or that she'll turn me down...
Because, here's the thing. We're both girls.

I run out of the classroom and out on the school lawn where I can see the track field. I walk over and sit down, near the red maple tree that manages to hide me from everyone outside and inside the school. As I sit, I slowly take out my drawing pad and as I stare at it, I sigh. It was yet another sketch of Tina and me sharing a sweet kiss, this time during an imaginary picnic at the local park. This is probably the fifteenth drawing I've done this month. Ever since I discovered my feelings for her, I've found myself drawing sketch after sketch of us kissing.
"Oh there you are Maddie!" Tina yelled as she approached me.
"Uh... Tina?!" I shrieked. I stood up quickly to hide the drawing behind my back.
"Yeah it's me," Tina laughed. "Geez, why did you scream? Did I scare you?"
"N-n-no!" I replied with a tint of red in my cheeks. Even if we see each other every day, she always managed to make me blush at these certain moments. I spoke up again, "Anyway, it's not as if I don't have a good reason to be scared, y'know? You tend to get us in trouble all the time."
"What? That's not true! Not all the time!" Tina whined.
"Name me one time, when you actually did something 'heroic' without doing something idiotic afterwards," I claimed.
"Well... there was that one time when we saved a cat from a tree..." she said.
"...and then after you saved it, you threw it in the air from happiness for doing something heroic and the cat landed on the road and got hit by a bus," I replied.
"...Oh right," Tina blushed as she remembered that incident. Then she tried to change the subject, "So anyways what are you doing?"
"Just relaxing by the tree," I whispered more to myself.
"Really? It looked like you were staring at something," Tina stated as she stared at me.
"Uh... No I wasn't..."
"I'm pretty sure you were looking at a drawing before I came here."
"Uh... I was just staring at the ground..." I say hesitantly as I clutch onto the drawing hidden behind my back.
"Aww c'mon lemme see! I clearly saw you staring at your drawing. You always show me your drawings!" Tina whined childishly as she tried to grab the sketch from my back.
"I said no, Tina!" I grunted as Tina sneaked behind me and managed to get the drawing hidden behind my back.
She quickly moved away from me and used one of her arms to stop me from taking back my sketch while she stared at it intensely.
"Uhm... the girls are... they're only characters that I made up for a story I was writing... I just used you as a base for the main character..." I lied hastily, even though I knew I was blushing like a tomato.
"Oh... really? That's cool!" she laughed as she gave back my drawing.
What an idiot. I can't believe she fell for that, I thought gloomily.
I closed my eyes, casually leaning against the tree and sighed.
"Hey Maddie, how much of an idiot do you think I am?" she suddenly jibered, poking me in the ribs.
As I opened my eyes, I came face to face with Tina's sky blue eyes.
"H-h-huh? W-what do you mean?" I stuttered, my face overheating from the sudden closeness between us.
"I know this is a drawing of us kissing. I can't believe you actually thought I'd believe your lie," Tina replied seriously.
"T-Tina, it's not what you think..." I moaned ashamed, lowering my eyes from her gaze.
"I guess... we're both idiots since we didn't realise our feelings for each other huh?" she pointed out.
"Tina... you mean... you like me?" I whispered in shock and disbelief.
"I've been trying to drop hints that I love you Maddie, but it seems you were too occupied drawing pictures of us kissing," she grinned as she slowly leaned towards me.
"Oh..." I uttered embarrassed as I looked down again.
"We're not having a picnic but..." Tina started, as she lifted up my chin and she gazed into my eyes, "I want to be the Tina in your drawing, Maddie."
She closed the distance between us and touched her lips to mine. The kiss was soft and tasted of bubblegum and apples. When I broke it to catch a breath, I looked up and hazily stared at Tina's blushing face. I wrapped my arms around her neck and brought her closer for another kiss. Unlike the first kiss, this was more passionate, lustful even, and Tina arm's enveloped my waist to bring me closer to herself. Shyly, I opened my lips as her tongue slowly explored my mouth. I couldn't help but moan and soon my tongue touched hers, tasting her and savouring every moment, making her moan in turn.
Finally, both of us parted, gasping for air and looked at each other with crimson coloured faces. While still holding to each other, Tina spoke up, "So... this means we're dating right?"
"Of course we are, you idiot."
"Great! Now I can be Maddie's heroic girlfriend!" she laughed.
"Ugh, you really know how to ruin the moment, don't you?" I retorted and smiled at her. She swooped down to kiss me and I instinctively wrapped my arms around her neck.
"You know... if you really want to be the Tina in my drawings, we have to go to all the different places and practice kissing," I said after our lips parted.
"That's perfectly fine with me," Tina started, and then continued, "I wonder if you drew us kissing on a bed too..."
"W-W-What?!" I blushed furiously.
"Wait... you did?!" Tina asked shocked but with teasing eyes.
I sighed and kissed her again. "You'll just have to find out someday."
